Not say don't trust those magazine reviews. They usually only talk about the good things and high speed fun (after all its not their bike and they can trash it to the max)

I wish to hear the actual owners on their peeves or small issues with the bike. Maybe on slow speed handling, or perculiar thing that may bother a normal rider in day-to-day traffic, etc.

Is the bike at HongLeong ready to be registered OTR imediately or have to wait for the actual shipment? Anyone knows?

Comments from "holeshot" boss....

Hi Guys......Dale Walker here

Not sure how this got out there, but the time and mph is correct.

I rode the bike about one month ago at Sacramento drag strip on a fairly hot day.

Sac was also a track i raced and tested at often back in the day. Its a good track but was always about a 10th slower than Fremont/ Baylands , and also Bakersfiled/ Formosa.

Conditions and the track make a huge difference in your ETs, and of course rider ability and wieght. Jay and are freinds and we swapped many national records back and fourth during our racing careers.

He always had about 25 lbs on me and that is a bunch when each rider can get the max out of a production bike. On some bikes he could nip me close to a 10th , but not always. In fact on some of Kosmans race bikes and pro street type bikes i ran quicker. Im not sure what he wieghs these days.

I was at Carlsbad tuning the original Kosman GSX-R the day Jay rode the first shoot out of the hot rod bikes. Not sure if you remember the magazine issue. I think he went a 9.70 something that day and the bike won the shoot out. At sac on the same bike i went 9.58. Thsi is juts an example of how track and conditins car vary. Like many dyno charts guys get hung up on these days.

Years ago when i tested the original 85 V Max for Cycle World. At that time i was about 163 lbs ready to ride. I went 10.62 /129 mph on the old bike in totally stock trim. Then with a small slick on the stock rim, and a bar, i think it went a 10.40

Im now at 180 lbs suited up ready to go, and feel i can still ride very close to my potential , though i may not be able to spell.........Ha

The 2009 V Max is a heavy sled and the shaft drive which robs HP from the rear wheel. This is the main thing holding it back, as well as a few funny things with the fueling and ignition.

Jay may in fact of got it close to the 9s or in the 9s, but he would have really have to work at it the day i rode the bike at the same track.

Traction was not a problem at all, i had the thing total hooked up. I did not like the fly by wire throttle control. It had a strange part of the rpm under load that would either pull the motor down a bit to much or explode. The harder i rode it the slower it went as far as the launch.

Its really heavy and alot of mass to get going, it felt like a super fast Goild wing to me ....Ha ha

My best 60 footer was a 1.72, because of the minor under load deal this was the best 60 footer i could ring out of the thing, and trust me i tried. The bike has a great clutch with a pretty good feel though its a little soft.

My 3rd and 4th run were the best at 10.13 & 10.14 . I went up the scale and back down as far as my launch rpm and shift points, and even in the heat of the day got iot back down to a 10.15 ET.

For another example i took my Bandit 1250 to the same track a while back with my prototype header, stock wheel base and the front end pulled down a little. OIny one tooth off the front , still way to high geared, and making about 132 hp. Results 1.62 60 footer, 10.42 ET 132 MPH

I never touched the rev limiter in the lights in 4th gear at 137 / 138 mph, but it had to be close and there is zero over rev. When you get to 9500 its hits it HARD.

I found the best way to launch it was at 5500 rpm , leave as hard as i could pulling the motor down a bit and roll through it. Power shift 2nd gear about 9200 , then throttle shift 3 & 4 at 9400 rpm. This method was consistantly my best times and mph

I wish i could have rode it the next morning with it cool again, but we were all done by mid afternoon.

I have to get to work, i will check back in if you have any questions, and yes over time i will be working on a pipe and other things to wake this thing up.

Cheers Dale

Hi guys

Thanks for the comments

Dont get me wrong this new V max is a real fast bike and 10:13 is darn quick for a 700 lb stock bike wet, with a shaft drive.

I called and talked to Sandy Kosman and he told me Jay had more like 30 to 35 lbs on me. No wonder i had to work so hard to stay ahead of that guy....,,,,,,,ha ha

Most likely on a good day, at a fast track he will get the bike to about 9.90 or so, but i always looked at it in a way that i was a little more realistic being more of a average size rider, not big and not a tiny light weight.

I wish i had a little more time on the test day, i only got about 10 total runs. The day i tested the bike was during a Top fuel nastalgia race , so we had to be out of there by early afternoon.

After i got home and looked at a few videos i took and anolized it, i would have loved to have a few more morning passes to try a few more tricks.

I bet with the morning cool air i could have got real close to a 9.99

Maybe i will meet a Nothern Ca. 2009 V Max owner that will let me ride his bike at the same track to have another crack at it.

I also wanted to give you another example about 60 foot times.

Not bragging, just some insight on what i know and have done

In a 1998 when i was doing a bunch of development with my 1200 Bandit project bike, i had a very mild 1216 street motor combo that made right at about 150 hp at the wheel. My bike was about 455 lbs.

It had original 36 mm CV carbs so it did not have huge top end. I had the bike lowered only about 1.5 " on both ends and about 3" longer than stock, so about the same wheel base as the new Max.

I could run 9.80s all day long at about 137 to 138 mph best

This is where the 60 foot comes in big time. My best was a 1.52 but could also run 1.5s consistantly. This is where the throttle control from perfect fueling and the weight of the bike really matters.

Back in 1987 I went 8.00s and a 7.9s on Kosmans pro street GS and my own after that. 60 footers in the high 1.2s with no bars.

It was not until a few years ago that Brock Davidson got in the 7s with his pro street Bandit 1200

But we never had progressive NOS and electronics they have now.

Since the new V Max pulls 137 to 138 mph i feel it will get into the 9s. But it will really need to be a good track with a very light rider on board.

Id like to try something i never do and that is to hammer it hard and modulate the rear brake to keep it from spinning the tire and wheeling. This is not my normal smooth riding style, but I bet i could nip off another 10th or so since the bike is so long and heavy. It does not wheelie to bad.

Ok got to run , take care all

Any guys in Ca want to run the new bike at Sacremneto let me know id like to make a few more passes.

Cheers Dale

Hi all,

Could someone point me to the owner of a red V-max parked at Perfection (Eunos). Alan there told me it was for sale, but didn't give me a contact number. I was wondering if I could get in touch with the owner directly.

The plate was FL 6**6.

Any help is appreciated!

On an unrelated note - what price can I expect to pay for a stock '93 VMAX with COE till 2013. I understand that there are some active sales in the forum, and I do not want to interfere. But the collective experience in this forum is appreciated. Please PM what you think is a fair price to me...

Thanks in advance! :)

I have a stupid question.

At $50k, wouldn't it be cheaper to parallel import the Vmax from a US dealer, or even star motorcycles?

Don't mind me bro, but it'll cost you more with the paperworks and technicalities if you are going to parallel import it, i personally think that it's cheaper and easier to just buy it off from Hong Leong....And if i'm not mistaken, few units have been bought already....

I did some calculations and importing a bike from overseas adds about 50% more to the cost of one (thread here - http://www.singaporebikes.com/forums/showthread.php?t=217981)

So theoretically speaking, if you "MO'ed" 3 bikes from a dealer overseas and got it for a discount (say 10%) off the US$18k sticker price, you'd pay about SGD$40k all in all to have one on the road here.

In other words, HL is making about SGD$10k (probably more) for each bike they sell. I'm sure there are those who'd be happy to fork out whatever amount HL wants to sell the bike for, but I'm not one of those ppl at the moment.

Now..if anyone knows a PI that can bring one in, including excise taxes, etc.....at around $30k.....please PM me!

MAH's the one bro....But not sure about your budget...It's best if you contact them and personally ask them about it...Cheers...
