Yup bro, changed.. Cost 400+.. U can try getting it checked out... When is e last time u did servicing?

I did my top service in may at unique for about close to 1K. Maybe sometime in september i'll do another service interval. Probably get them to check out my iggy coils. Funnily enough, this iggy coil problem is quite common in cars especially with my Renault Megane. But we use Sagem or Valeo iggy coils and they cost roughly $85 per piece.

But $400 is pretty steep though. IF the problem happens again then its really a big issue.

my plug coil (ignition coil) spoil already.. all 4.. bike not even 2 years old. i did some research and found out that yamaha bikes tend to have this problem of having the stock denso plug coils spoilt easily. they even had a recall for all 03 r6 models to have the coils replaced.

so my question is, anyone facing this problem currently? bike will feel sluggish at low rpm, when you try to drag high rpm can feel the loss of power. idling also not stable. makes engine kinda sound like a v-twin. if everytime must replace damn jia lat leh. 1 coil 100+, 4 coils 400+..

Hi to all lovers of R6

interested to get one

browsing through the thread when i see this post

it sounds serious

everytime change coil 400++ no joke

thinking of getting a 2006 onwards model

some pointers for ppl who hv coil problms:

CHECKING THE IGNITION COILS

The following procedure applies to all of the ignition

coils.

1. Check:

• Primary coil resistance

Out of specification → Replace.

Primary coil resistance

1.19–1.61 Ω

• Positive tester probe →

red/black

• Negative tester probe →

orange or gray/red or orange/green or

gray/green

a. Remove the ignition coil from the spark plug.

b. Connect the pocket tester (Ω × 1) to the ignition

coil.

c. Measure the primary coil resistance.

2. Check:

• Secondary coil resistance

Out of specification → Replace.

Secondary coil resistance

8.5–11.5 kΩ

• Negative tester probe →

red/black

• Positive tester probe →

spark plug terminal

a. Connect the pocket tester (Ω × 1k) to the ignition

coil.

b. Measure the secondary coil resistance.

3. Check:

• Ignition spark gap

Out of specification → Replace.

Minimum ignition spark gap

6.0 mm (0.24 in)

Hi bro, i facing the same problem with you. At low rpm (below 4k) when moving off from stationary bike will feel sluggish, sometimes jerking like rpm jumping , feels like bike gonna stall. High rpm so far no issue for me yet. Idling totally not stable too. Can hear / feel the idling moving up and down in quite a big range. From last night experience, i notice something. If you ride in the rain, your bike will have very noticeable "tick" sound at your radiator area, which I believe is the moisture sip into the cracked ignition coil insulator and cause the condition worsen. My mech test and show me the ignition coil "leaking" voltage into the surrounding electrical conductor, can visibly see the arc like lightning shooting from the coil onto the surrounding conductor. I researched about this issue and found out about the 03 models recalling for coil replacement too. But its 03.. which is R6S . ours is R6R also got such problem =/ I didn't realize stock coil is denso brand though, I thought is Yamaha OEM coil.

After asking several local bike shops, they say its a very common problem for Yamaha sports bike like R1 , R6 etc due to our natural super hot bike temperature.

Btw which year is your R6 having this problem? Mine is 07 batch. Any good shop to recommend for replacement , like better price hahaha. How much they quote you per coil ?

Hi , may i know the high and low sound is when you start bike without warm out or already warm up and there is still high and low sound?

Hi , may i know the high and low sound is when you start bike without warm out or already warm up and there is still high and low sound?

More noticeable when warming up (temp is Lo.) , after the bike is warm mine still moves a lil more than usual due to my full system.

Agreed. Been going to Unique toh guan (where alex is heading the shop) since my super 4 days. Prices are reasonable and transparent. Mechs are well trained and not once(subjective ar.. lol) did i feel pressured to pay for something that i didnt require/need. Same 2 mechs have been looking after my bikes since then.

But always be aware that you can seek 2nd opinion if you are uncomfortable with the explanation from the guys at UM. No pressure.

Dear r6 riders, managed to pass my class 2 and looking to get a new R6 in white. Any recommended shop that specialize in the R6 and it's parts? Coz I'm intending of changing many parts. If it's not nice to reveal the shops, can pm me?
