Hey brozzz :D

I just got my K last somewhere mid last month. Was thinking of making it into a classic look. Any ideas where to get old skool parts such as round headlights, speedo, etc?

Really, really appreciate your response cus I'm kinda new in this.

Was wondering. If I sand away the paint on my gas tank.

Then use no.1000 grade to fine sand. Wat will be the outcome?

Is it silver metal color? Can it be polished? Hmm......

Anyone knows?

when you sand... becareful..

if the tank is in ok condition... then its ok but if there are some welded marks or putty marks, then there might be a chance of leaking...

so becareful bro

I see. Cos I want those metal or chrome kind of finishing lei. Any idea to get those effect?if chrome gas tank will have chance of cracking right??

you wan to chrome your tank ah bro... expensive leh....

ok ah ... can try....

if you want ... you sand until metal

then you fine sand...

then you polish until shine....

then you spray lacquer....

the outlook should be ok

if u sand down ur gas tank. what u will get is just plain metal lah. thats all.

but if left untreated it will rust. damn easily. cos the metal got no form of protective layering anymore mah. it will rust like every 3 secs. k, that one bluff lah. but ya.

i have a friend who wanted to try that. it was shiny at first, but turned out a disaster overnight.

unless u really know how to work with metal, i suggest leaving this kinda thing to the shops. it will cost u some though.

I see i see. Thank you. Oh ya. I came about reading from forum that got people go do special welding on theIr tank ar. Can fill in more petrol. Really got such thing meh?

Bro theredszone. Wat if put lacquer like wat zoobay jus said. Think wun be rust lei. Maybe ur Fren forget to put???

Posted

no lah... my friend didnt forget to put. he was just dumb.

put lacquer can la.. but its just not chrome anymore...

still not as nice as the original..

go buy an extra tank and practice first la.. if its nice, at least never ruin your original tank.. haha.. scrapyard got alot..

i dont think ive met u before btw... have we?

welding of tank, its possible.. but i havent seen anybody here do it yet..

in the US, i know they do it..

originally i wanted to do it, take another tank, chop it in half, and weld it to the end of my original tank to make it longer... which means seat becomes shorter, but in the end i was just happy with what i had...

dun need la to do all this... u can still make ur K look real nice without having to go thru all that trouble... just use alot of Autosol. HAHA.

just wanna add ask bout the sanding thingy.

when u guys sand and spray colour, do u take out the seats 1st?

if yes..how ah?? i cant find any screws linking the seats to the frame, i can only see the seats the the fender behind.

n how do u guys like keep the "paint dust" from going to other parts of the bikes.

i plan to cover the rest of the parts with newspaper, after sand, use my car those small vacuum cleaner can blow air to blow the dust away...follow by thin layers of spray paint. n finnaly lacquer

its tat hw u all usually do??

TIA

:) cooling off day

dismantle everything.. dont spray from the bike.. not that cannot lah.. but, do things the right way man..

at the rear, behind the tail light, just above the mudguard, should be 2 nuts that lock the seat in place.. unscrew that, and the seat will come off..

then, u can see the nut that keeps the tank in place.. undo that one too...

turn off ur fuel, and unplug the tube thats connected to ur fuel co.ck.. unplug one of the cables in there too..

then u should be able to lift ur tank right off...

then spray.. preferably somewhere where there is no wind.. cos the dust will just f*** up ur paint job...

any metalwork shops should be good enough to do that la.

u dont have to wait till meet up to meet someone wat.. just drop by whichever area theyre at to lepak and all lah.. its way better having to talk to somebody in person and get them to show u stuff than reading about it here..

trust me, i havent met them too often, but its better than just sitting in ur room and wondering how to do stuff...
