I wanna spray off-white, abit beige for the tank so for the cover probably the same thing, if not then black also can. Anyway for the plastic, primer not required right? Cos the guy from the hardware store said that primer is to prevent and protect against rust. Is that right?

plastic is much easier to spray.. the guy is right..

make sure u test spray on cupboard first..

and let it dry to see if that is really the colour u want.. else u will regret big time..

Eh I've started on the plastic already and it's good and bad news lol. The left side of the cover is the good news, thank god for that, at least my 2T wont be exposed. My right side, haha given the chance I should show you all, maybe take a picture?

I shall share my problems so maybe you all wont make the same mistake or whatsoever? Ahah..

Ok the last time I posted on this forum, I mentioned that I've sanded my covers but I'm not sure if it's enough. Frankly, I doubt it is and the funny thing is, even after much turpentine, and sanding.. Turpentine and sanding.. The paint doesnt come off, it just fades a little. So I thought ok maybe that's the maximum. I tried spraying the first layer which is a white base and after awhile, the whole thing started cracking. Badly lol. And then I tried to use a piece of cloth to wipe it(with abit of turpentine of course), to my amazement, everything came off. I could see the original black plastic covers. So in the end I kinda like ended up spraying white paint over the plastic covers just to remove the paint. But the process is one hellova crazy one, took me really long to clear the entire cover due to some small really hard to come off parts. The left side came off pretty well but the right side, I couldn't tell which is the original colour. Initially I thought it was red, then suddenly the red came off and became black.. And then after awhile even the black fades and becomes some kinda lightbrown like teh ping colour. After a few min, some areas started turning blue so it was crazy lol. I gave up on that piece and my friend ended up playing with it by spraying silver. Now the whole piece's a mess heh. I think I'll have to get a brand new piece from ah boy tomorrow or something. Unless any of you here can give me some pointers as to how can I remove the paint once and for all. My friend suggested I soak it in thiner but I think that is madness haha.

Ok so as for the left side, the plastic ate the white base properly, and eventually it ate the cream as well so everything turns out well. But I've got a few queries, after lacquering 2 - 3 times, the cover appears to be matte-looking. I tried spraying more times and slightly thicker, the cover eventually turned glossy and I tested by scratching and all when it's dried up. I even put it under running water, seems fine. But seems like whenever I hold on to it or put my fingers on a same area for some time, my finger print stays there and I cannot get rid of it. Like when I was fixing the 'RX-K' logo back on and when I was putting the cover back into place. Any idea why is that so?

Now my biggest worry is just the tank cos... Since the covers can turn out to be so messy, I wonder how am I going to get rid of the paint from my tank. Turpentine still? Thiner? Cos I don't think I wanna spray the entire can of paint on to the tank just to wipe everything off lol. Considering that it may end up like my right cover. Yikes!

I need some pointers here! SOS HELP SOS! Hahah

P.S. Pardon the super-duper long post, I are be kanjiong spider now heh..

i dunno where u got the idea of the turpentine and using wet sanding from.. wet sand with water.. not turpentine or kerosine.. -_-

i never used kerosine or turpentine for all my paint job.. well i guess too bad bro.. u learnt it the hard way..

just get chrome side covers from LAB i think about $25

your lacquer is not completely dry and please spray the lacquer or paint in the sun..

wat brand of spray u use??

paint remover and turpentine is two different things..

go to paint shops and get proper paint removers.. and becareful.. its more toxic and powerful den turpentine or kerosine or thinner..

Hmm just a thought..

Lol I've no idea where I get the turpentine idea from anyway.. Must've confused it with something cos a friend of mine said something about getting don't know what from the hardware store. I think I kinda described wrongly and then the uncle gave me the wrong thing? Nvm la, lesson learnt.

Anyway I'm using RJ paint and RJ lacquer as well... I don't know if it's good, but since the RJ one is more expensive than the Nippon one and the shop only carries this 2, I got the RJ one.

So now for the tank, I should just go to the hardware store and get paint remover, after which just dap cloth with remover and wipe the tank till everything falls off?

(Sorry for the long-winded-ness and troubling :sorry:, really appreciate all the helps and tips!)

i think i got it at $10 from my neighbourhood.. should be enough for ur tank..

turpentine and kerosine is only used to clean the paint off your hands after u finish the painting and stuff..

Oh that's far ahaha.. Oh I'm not worried about the covers at all. It's just the oil tank that worries me the most. But ok la, I can easily just use a brush, dip it into the paint remover and paint over my oil tank yes? After which the paint will be gone and then what do I do from there? Sandpaper? Wait for the thing to dry up then apply new paint? :help:

Hahah do you have msn? Easier to talk there?

and why u use turpentine...? :slapforehead:

if u decide use paint remover... get ready rubber glove or something... if it splashes to your skin can be quite painful...

sometime cant get off 100% paint.. still have to sand the leftovers... :goodluck:

Rubber gloves? Ok roger! Thanks for the tips!

Hahah and let's just forget about the whole turpentine ordeal heh :shy:

Nvm lesson learnt and luckily one side still came out well.

I just got paint remover today, I will start to brush paint remover over my tank tomorrow and hopefully everything comes off well. Btw, just a question.. Really noob at all this diy paint stuff. After applying the paint remover, it's ok to wash it off with water before sanding right? Or.... Hmm?
