Theres a lot of negative feedback abt this bike as buyers are not happy with the cosmetic finish. Its more of a cheap production and trying to target more audience .......

Sad but it seems Ducati standard is geting lower and lower

  • 2 weeks later...

rode the 848 last week . . . . its really a great bike. I was initially skeptical but i'm sold now.

The pricing is a bit strange as its only about USD2-3k cheaper than the 1098. Considering the diff is so little & with a wet clutch & no damper, I would still go for the 1098.

Words are that there will be no S version since it will put it in the region of the 1098 base model.

Must be about 32-33k OTR from Minerva?

Agree with you, price is too close to its elder sibling 1098 which comes with more "premiums", almost booked 1 from 1st batch, but was totally turn off when get to know it comes in WET CLUTCH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Sigh...

Anyway just booked e KTM RC8 instead. :sian:

NICE!!!!

Yeah, wet clutch a turn off, a duke suppose to make people think we have not service it for a long time once you switch to neutral at the light :cheeky:

Back to the 848, rumors has it in the US that its to drive more people to the 1098 . . . . it also satisfy a big mass market as well in other parts of the world where the 1098 is going for > USD20 grand.

I was checking out a 1098 the other day, and I noticed its headlights AND instrument panel had condensation INSIDE.... And it was only a slight drizzle. The bike is parked in an underground carpark.

I've ridden my 999 through the worst rainstorms I've ever seen, 20 metre visibility, and the bike still works perfectly. I'm sorry to admit that the newer generation of superbikes feel flimsy compared to the older ones.

Neo,

As mention earlier in my post,

Ducati has lost its way and there was a lot of complains and lots of ppl have return their ducati back in trade of other bikes.

Their target now are the majority who have been geting Japenese bikes.

Due to these factors, They have cut cost a lot to meet the market price of the Japs.

1098 is still ok if you were to compare to the 848 which is really really obvious terms of quality and performance.

Sad to say but its true.

Ducati to launch ten new motorcycles by 2010

By Ben Purvis

New bikes

16 January 2008 12:09

Ducati has announced plans to launch ten new bikes by 2010 during a presentation that's currently happening in Milan.

The firm says its plans include three new bikes for 2008 - presumably the Monster 696, the 848 and the 1098R which it has already shown - followed by another three new models for the 2009 range and four new machines for the 2010 line-up.

Details of the other new bikes are still under wraps, but the firm has said they will be "premium" machines, with the new Monster 696 acting as the only entry-level machine in the firm's range.

Keep an eye open for more news from the presentation as it happens.
