if never renew u kanna caught. court case. gao lat gao lat one. no road tax mean u are cheating on the goverment.

You've got to understand how Insurance and Road Tax is linked together to form the most legal way of using your vehicle

 

First off, insurance.

- This covers you for a year should a person be in an accident, or if (touch wood) the affected party should claim from you if you are in the wrong.

- The government has put laws in place, mandating the need to have insurance per-person linked to his/her motorcycle.

In other words, die die must have insurance or else if ROV/TP stop, $2k fine or 3 months prison

 

After you buy (and get covered under) Insurance, next comes Road Tax.

- Since you own a vehicle, the government taxes you for it. It's like you are paying for GST.

- 6 months or 1 year renewal, your choice

- LTA will only let you renew your Road Tax if their systems detect that you have Insurance coverage.

- Not paying road tax is like not paying GST. Kana ROV/TP stop roadside and find out that you do not have, $2k fine. Vehicle can be seized if road-tax already due past 1 month

- Also a "must have", but there is an exceptional case below.

 

If you do not want to pay road tax (which requires you to renew your Insurance, if it has expired), you can do what's called a vehicle Lay Up, in which you promise LTA -- by filling up a form -- to keep your vehicle in a location (maximum is 1 year) without paying road tax, and you cannot use it on the road.

the info provided by u guys sure r useful.. but will i get fined or anything if i renew my Insurance LATE ?? Late as in nv get caught by anyone, only when i renew like 1 week late?

insurance wont fine you one lar, only rd tax kenna fine.

 

why dun you go do a layup 1st, only cost 5plus. When you get money, say, next month or wat, then go and unlay the bike. this is the best and cheapest way to defer payment of rd tax and insurance.

 

rd tax wont be charge for the period the bike is layup. that means, if you lay it up for 2 months, means that 2 months rd tax you wont need to pay when you unlay the bike.

 

only disadvtge is, you cant ride the bike out on public rd when it is being lay up. you can, however, run the engine and "paeh paeh" the bike while it is stationary.

 

i urge you to not ride the bike when you dun have valid rd tax and insurance. if you cant afford 2 pay these 2 now, i'm pretty sure you wont be able to handle the court case if kenna.

but remember ur u wana unlaid ur bike, u nid to tow it to the inspection center for re-inspection b4 getting it back on the rd yah...cheers...no riding to the center yah..
