Anyone can give me a review on Wave I... I heard the electronic have failed many Wave I and is costly to replace. Anyone can confirm?

other that that, I might want to get a Yammy X1 110cc with bigger tank capacity.

The thread too long to read thru, 3000++ posting donno where to start... paisay... :cheeky:

wave-i nowadays are getting better, i think. got mine last yr, and encountered a few cases of fuel chokes. but changed engine oil a bit more frequent and using STP fuel injection cleaners will help my problems. If u get a new one sure have 1 yr warranty so, no worries. It's the most economy bike here in sg. cos 50+ km / l. confirmed, up to 60s. depending on speed travelled.

Hi Wavers,

Wow..wanted to read thru the 100++ pages to look for my answers but read until page 6 gave up. :sorry:

I'm currently riding a honda rvf..thinkin about downgrading as i just want a simple means of transport, dun wana ride sportsbike liao..... Save $$ is the goal here, hehe.

was wondering if any of you could help me with the followin questions as they are impt calculations i need to factor into my decision to change (i oredy calculated on Petrol Savings alone annually from downgradin from Rvf to Wave is=$490!);

1) How much does a pair of sport rims and tires cost?

2) battery/rectifier cost? (wave got battery anot ah?)

3) chain, sprocket cost

4) carb or FI version better...read from among these pages that it seems earlier FI versions have some pump problems?

5) Insurance 2nd party for a 27 yr old?

6) how much does a typical service cost? (sparkplug, filters, carb wash/tune..etc)

7)what is the market rate for a 2nd hand 1 or 2 yrs old Wave? Whats is the typical depreciation if i buy a brand new one and sell 2 yrs later?

8) any wavers here who downgraded from a sportsbike and finds it difficult to transition to a smaller bike? could u get used to it?

9) lastly n most imptly, is wave really so dangerous like everyone say so? Been tires too small and not stable? i tend to think its more on riding habits than anything else.

Any advise is greatly appreciated, thx!

I was replying to the mail previously, someone who claims his wave is slow.

So my advice is for him to retune his carburator.

Every Wave can go 125km/hr max is the carburator is optimised.

Not say that my wave is better than anyone here. Just that I keep my carburator tuned and willing to 'burn' more petrol at trafic lights.

haha i mean no offence one lah...cos sounds like racer ma...u stay north? nowadays petrol in sg not cheap man..u burns petrol pump jb better..recently i returned to shell here wa so ex..friend recommendation end up i using malaysia caltex gold..RM$1.410 per litre compare to $1.55 for 95 man!!

bro you made the right choice..wave definitely suits ur specification..everything u listed wave is cheaper. i also don know how to explain.

1) sport rims and tyre can get cheap in JB.

2) wave got battery. heard its around $12?

3) this one i haven change yet. but shouldn't cos much. $50++?

4) i riding carb so i say carb better lo..this one the experts here will explain to you.

5) insurance u can chect ntuc online for quotation. done mine i'm 21 and TPFT cos $898!! lucky my main rider is 32 so around $200+.

6) spark plug around $6 can get liao. wash carb i done mine for $30.

7) current market price is cheaper lo..i think more worth it to get a new one. got nicer colors. mine was damn ex when i bought. 2nd hand machine 2.8K. tat time wave 2nd hand very hard to find. mine FW plate.

8) erm..i cannot answer this but wave is very easy and simple to ride to me. u might be used to having a lever on the left side of ur bar.very relac to ride one.

9) ppl here will suggest tat u get rid of the IRC tyres tat comes wit it. cos really really small. may not be stable to u. overall its not a dangerous bike lah i think. but when on highway wind too strong may swerve left right a bit.

overall its a simple and economical machine. full tank S$2.00 can get u full tank liao.(using JB caltex gold). can get u around 150++or--km before next pump?hope u won't miss the speed u travel on ur RVF.

1. Chain and sproket = RM$70

2. 3rd Party Fire and Thieft for 27 yrs old = $290 (cheapest)

3. I've been riding sports bike for 6 yrs. From CBR400 to CBR1100XX now. So far, not much of a problem. Jus need some getting used to.

so...enjoy the wave ride! :thumb:

Thanks for the tip, I also rocka.. Rocker (heavy metal version)... I am seriously considering, I want fuel econ very badly as I travel long distance daily to work. But may be swayed to buy a Wave S. As it is Carb, most shop can do servicing, in case of trouble, mech will also knowledge to troubleshoot... Injection like big bike oriented shop then can handle...

So all I am afraid is F-I screw up and no one knows how to reapir it cheaply. Should I be even concern about it anyway?

hi dude, thanx for the swift answers;

4) regardin the carbs/FI issue...i think its quite true that most SG's motordiams do not know how to svc the injectors...sighh...still dunno get wave-s or wave-i...any experts can give comments on thier pros/cons?

7) market now for new wave not too bad i guess...my fren bought a very nice orange color one...OTR with box is $3600 only! But one bloody shop in AV quoted me $4200 for a brand new wave... :sian:

And yes....2ndhand waves very hard to find!!!! y ah?? so good until no one sellin isit? Garage sales virtually none sellin! Any of you here wana part with your wave, PM me ok? :D

9) yea...i heard IRC tyres kills. DO most ppl here change to sportsrim n tubeless tires? how much are they? And yea i'll def miss the speed of the rvf but i'll def be happier seeing my piggybank grow day by day. haha.

I using my wave-i for more than 9 months already.. more than 12000km.. no problems whatsoever.. the new batch of waves according to my mech doesnt have the problem anymore. Just bear in mind not to use the cheapest petrol u can find. The wave-i has the best fuel consumption in Singapore..CONFIRM! lol

If wanna go for carb versions can grab a Wave-S or Wave-R.

Wave-S more nicer but more $$$ than Wave-R.

If on tight budget can get the Wave-R cause it is the cheapest Wave available than other Waves ie Wave-S,Wave-I.

Just my opinion.

As for me? I currently riding a Wave-S and am happy wif it.

injectors gone then u see ur piggybank shrink again lor. true not many mechs know how to service Wave-I but like some ppl say the latest batch no problem liao. also heard tat Wave-I how u whack or don whack ur fuel mileage still more or less the same. my S i whack my mileage drop around 10-15km/litre. but this bike tank small hor. if u travel long distance u may find urself pumping once every 2 days or worst at the end of the day need to pump liao. mine also around tat price tat time but mine was 2ND HAND ONE!! hard to find cos ppl mod til nice nice liao of course will be used long term. my friend's dad's phantom piston spoil sell back shop then shop offered a 2nd hand wave but tat wave condition is wat we could describe as shattered.

9)sports rims and original spokey here everyone have their different views.

sports rims: heavy so may affect ur fuel consumption by a little bit. u lose top speed. when punctures u still have the stability.AND use ORIGINAL HONDA rims. heard some rims of other makes break b4.RM400++--?

spokey: lighter. can change color of spokes and rims. puncture and u go for a tail-spin. $Priceless$..the bike comes wit spokey already why buy? just change the tyre will do ma..ur piggybank confirm will grow till over-flow one. then will start to shrink once u start to mod ur bike..haha

can ask JB side to mod the tank... instead of storage space under the seat, ask the fellow maybe weld another container to the existing or custom make a tank that can fit under the entire seat...

like that then worth it yo go JB topup... :cheer:

Next anyone knows where and how much to remap the EFI if it goes haywire? FI bike cannot service and tune, it can only be reprogrammed (= PGM). and how much to repalce if the EFI screw up big time and have to be replace?

wahh....you very idea man....But I can guarantee u that u won't even make it past the customs upon returning to SG. And to do this, I reckon that the cost is not going to be cheap, better to get a bigger fuel tank bike for that kind of mod-job, say...phantom 200.. :cheer:
