1.This evening I started my bike. It failed to start and lights get dimmer and dimmer after each press.

 

2.Initially managed to push start for 1st time, subsequently can feel significant resistance even when clutch in(engage gear) and cannot be push started.

 

3. Managed to start by going down MSCP ram, measured voltage(11+V) and no charging.

 

4. Meter behave erratically, on...off...on...off, rpm up then drop to 0, time keep reseting.

 

5. Rode off by mantaining high rpm, meter continue to be erratic, bike feels like misfiring (is it caused by insufficient voltage to CDI?)

 

6. Struggled to JB, numerous push starts later, after the wld chkpt, last push start and meter back to normal, bike back to normal.

 

7. Back as MSCP, measured voltage(12+V), seems like it's charging(too late so never rev high).

 

8. Switch off engine and press start. Start up instantly.....

 

 

My guess

1. Initial thought it was CDI, but once voltage back to normal, bike also back to normal.

2. Thought was coil, but batt voltage is up when I'm back at MSCP.....(intermittent failure??????)

3. Rectifier, same as point 2.

 

Any can diagnose the problem?

loose connection at the battery terminals???

Left out it's a FR vtec one, took out the connectors to batt. Same problem after reconnecting.

 

What do you mean by condition?

condition mean wat is the status of ur bike now? can start? i also owns a FR s4... another thing will be the 30amp fuse oxidation, or the on/off switch faulty...

If on/off switch faulty, I won't even be able to push start right?

intermittant faulty, tats wat i ever encountered before...

 

the copper contact plates of the on/off switch oxidised. i opened the whole assy and use fine sand paper to sand the oxide off the copper contact plates.

 

ur voltage drops cos as u crank, the current comsumes. i was thinking, if ur batt is weak also... think better send to workshop to check the charging.

confirm rect is faulty, n batt is not charged. costs arnd 150 together. 65 for batt. this is wat happened to my frens bike few days ago.

try to check the rectifier bro, using a multimeter.

Hi, Its abit off topic but just wanna check. For FR plate spec 1, after a heavy rain, will water seep into ur fuel cap and got collected ard the fuel reservoir? Is it normal?

how abt jus buyin e rectifier from the shops from chong aik international or eversuccess at desker road or fjt at rowell road at around 60 bucks...as for e battery u can buy at the same places for 60 or less or if ur reli budget get at ah boy shld be around 50 or less..total damage is like 110 like tt....the rectifier is easy to replace...jus remove n plug the new 1 in n jus screw back the screws.....hope this helps...

I ride at 70km/hr only...please please dont blow2 at me or overtake me dangerously....wait i change into Incredible Hulk n dont know why my little baby bike will always be ahead of u if u do that

try to change the batt and rectifier together first, if still same problem persist, then confirm magnetic coil... change whole coil... but can't say.. sometimes its ur carbon stater... suggest u troubleshoot by changing the cheapest first....

rectifier...Advise

There are 3 type different.

better buy at FJT.Cost 90 cos of orginial and good quality.

Buy battery from LAB ( ah boy ) cost 50 only.

1998- Yamaha RX-Z(FR****K)

2002-2003(Oct)- Honda Super 4 Vtec II(FV***C)

2006 to 2010(June)- Honda ST1100(FQ****M)

2006 - 2010(June)... Honda Super 4 Vtec II(FW****U)

bro.your every step i ever encounter before.

i pushstarted at woodlands causeway cos batt died there.switched off and on but engine wont start.so i decided to push start and ride ard jb for quite sometime until the speedo stopped going haywire cos of the cdi.

but my solution was to just buy new batt.and its been ok since 5 mths ago.cos if your coil is burnt,it wont recharge ur batt.if ur batt weak,ur cdi low voltage and wont read.this is what i experienced.

Rectifier confirmed gone. Batt most like still usable but the + terminal is in bad condition. Hoping that there's no dmg to the coil. Only the part linking to the coil was burnt.

bro.. mine was that a few days ago. connector to rectifier. the wire burnt. but so far, all is okie

I'd rather get a Leo Vince than a Louis Vuitton.

it will be recommended to replace the 3 items.

 

Battery, coil and rectifier as they are connected in series.

 

when the coil or rectifier is over charging, it will end up killing each other and the batt. so even if u change either the rectifier or the coil, the old rectifier or coil will kill the new rectifier or coil and the batt...

 

so far, i did encounter once where the rectfier connector is burnt, and my mech recommended to check the coil as he suspect the rectifier will kill the coil. after opening the cover, indeed one of the copper coils was black and melted. wasn't too sure which was the first one tat killed the other but i had all the 3 items replaced and it lasted me for a good 2 years.

 

my 2 cents... (maybe any pros out there can correct me if i'm wrong.)

ya i remember my connector to rectifier got burnt ... Just change the connector for $25. Rectifier still in good working condition.
