narcx... likely a failing clutch side seal... be very cafeful until you can get a mechanic to look at it... It could well be engine rebuild time...

 

Terrible one... I think the px seat is slightly shorter than the excel one... I don't think it'll be a straight swap.

thanks sharpey. so its a failing clutch seal? i adjusted the idle screw and now it doesnt run as high but the starting idle speed is low

Well the idle speed shouldn't change much when your engine heats up... What you described was the engine revving really high after a period of riding at speed.... That sounds like a classic seal problem... as the engine heats up the metal expands and the worn seal gets increasingly loose, letting more air in... making you more lean... raising the engine idle.... badabing what you described...

just wanna expand my knowledge, i've checked through sip-scootershop and found the scorpion pipe. is it legal here in singapore since it will come in with e-certificate?

Yup... but so far only approved for the PX200.... A 150 engine may be a bit different as there are many 150 models and not all of them are specifically listed on the test certificate... LTA could take issue with that...

ok more hiccups now, when i start the engine, it runs fine but when i trottle it dies. i have to repeat this a few times then it becomes more stable. is this a symptom of a failing clutch seal as well?

no... I wouldn't think so... it could be well be a symptom of a clogged carb....I would try taking your carb off and spraying the crap out of it with carb cleaner... look on scooterhelp.com for a how to guide... its fairly simple... just don't overtighten the carb bolts when you're re-installing...

The high idling could be linked to the carb yes... there could well be muck all over your carb... read the tutorial on scooterhelp or on vespamaintenance... clean your carb and see if it fixes the problem...

 

If not you will need to split your cases... the clutch side seal can only be replaced when the engine is dismantled (hence time for an engine overhaul)...

The Scorpion was about $750 or so all in.... Not cheap... But Good :)
