Hey guys. I'm new here, Am from Malaysia(KL). Has been planing to make a trip to Singapore for quite sometime. I'm currenly riding one of those Vespa Super 8" wheels model. But there's an alternative to it. Just put in a bracket in the middle of the rims to convert it from a 8" to 10". For my case, I've been swaping between the two sets of rims for diffrent rides. Usualy i'll keep my 8" when i'm in town, and swap for 10" when i'm going long distant.

Hope to meet up with you guys one of these days. Hope to get some help from you guys aswell about riding my Vespa into Singapore.

is it very slow on 8 inch wheels?

i have rode an 8 " before, if you wanna chill ride and don't mind the slow riding, then its fine, and of course for short distances.i once rode my 8'' wheeler from town all the way to tampines, it felt like forever ..hahaha..but best if you using it for commuting around singapore, best you go fo 10''

which means to say 8 inch would suck on the highway? what if you have a pinasco top end and other mods? would it help much?

looking for super t's tail light (ss180). found out that, its getting expensive. from $40++ to $70++.

how does the super t tail light look like?

during the production run of the ss180, there were 2 (euro) variants of the tail light. the euro spec had a chrome top that covered the top of the lens and another that was just like the sprint (without the jutting cover over the top) both had an inbuilt reflector.

do you have a pic of how it looks like?

also are you looking for a reproduction or an original NOS one?

reproduction stuff vary in terms of quality and accuracy in detail. some have a housing made of chromed plastic, others chromed aluminium. yet some have correct moulding lines and some have phoney fancy lines there werent there on the original.

anyway, i have a copy of the vespa tecnica 3 (out of print now) which has lots of detailed photos and blown up diagrams of models (sprint, super, ss180, rally, et3, 50 special etc) in factory stock condition and restored museum condition. if any one is looking to restore their vespa and needs a reference just pm me. willing to share it.

you've been doing your homework narcx :) Handy info there for the Vintage enthusiast...

As for the 8" wheels thing... technically faster acceleration (given decent motor) but slower top speed... There isn't much to be gained from kitting a Super... the 2 port engine and the 3 port kit aren't going to be a good match without some extra work...

yes quite a bit.

i would think that given the same engine the 8" and 10" would have roughly the same acceleration because the gear ratios the super (8") is using is

Bottom gear 1 : 13.35

2nd gear 1 : 9.32

3rd gear 1 : 6.64

4th gear 1 : 4.73

and on the sprint:

1st gear: 1 : :14.46

2nd gear: 1 : 10.28

3rd gear: 1 : 7.36

4th gear: 1 : 5.36

so taller gearings on the super compensates for the smaller 8" tires. top speed would also be roughly the same (given the same engine) because of taller final drive ratio.

however.... if you were to use 10 inch tires on the super's gears, pick up would be slightly sluggish but top speed would be higher then the sprint. again, given that -if- the motor is the same.

but of course we all know that the super and sprint came with different motors.

my vbc motor has the third transfer cut already. so im wondering how it would do with 8" wheels. just wondering.

anyway, the super T (1977 onwards) is also known officially as the euro/uk spec super mk2. and apparently they came with 3 port casings but a 2 port jug. just like the p150s (vbx1t). so all you have to do is get a 3 port jug for a bit more pep.

i guess it would help, i did had a fren who rode on an 8" super...with quite a handful mods on the engine, i guess my engine was just not meant to speed...

i dont mind repro stuffs. as i already broken two of them in 4 yrs of riding.

the ones at TA was believed to be from italy. and due to demands, the price of this particular tail light, increased. other models remain at the $50++ range though.

hmm.. i just ordered some stuff from scooterwest last month. they are selling that taillight for 54US. so the price TA is charging for it is actually reasonable. true enough that is made in italy but it is chromed plastic (not everything from italy means quality). also the two lines on top is exactly what i meant by phoney moulding lines. the original tail light should look like this: http://smorris.smugmug.com/photos/105623460-L.jpg

it is made of cast aluminium that is polished to a shine, or chromed, it says siem 4380 in the right corner inside and has the siem logo on the lens which has a reflector surrounded by an aluminum trim. i had one which i bought off ebay sometime ago which i have since sold. you should look for those online, they are not that expensive.

also, if im not mistaken the super mk2 did not come with that tail light. they came with the tail light as used on the sprint veloce and rally200:http://www.scooterwest.com/files/items/000/000/000/008/45/121017.jpg

the closest reproduction you can get for the tail light that was used on the super mk1 would be from http://scootrs.com/moreinfo.cfm?Product_ID=123. its only 19USD and shipping is not expensive. you can order other things so that postage is not wasted.

alternatively you can try ban hoe leong. have you checked if they have them?

Guess the shop you saw would be Jin Cheng aka Ah Joo.... They do sell old vespas...

Common places are Jin Cheng, Tong Aik (Golden Wall, opp Tekka Mall) and Leong Kah Heng aka Hendra's (Opp loading dock of Singpost)

If not keep a look out in the garage sale pages or even in here....

Price of vespas can be as low as a couple of hundred bucks all the way to 6k depending on the model and condition of the scoot...

Check out the wikipedia
