hi... anybody noes how to shorten the throttle cable permanently? i realized dat mine is abit loose (by 2cm) even with the adjuster on the throttle assembly fully turned out..... i presume the cable on the throttle side cannot be shortened as it has a special pulley. so i took out the end on the carb side n saw a bead which has been soldered onto the cable.

question is: can i juz cut away the extra length from dat end, fit a fishing sleeve thru and solder them together? or where can i buy dat special type of bead?

many advanced thanks to the DIY gurus :thumb:

The carb side can also adjust. Usually there's no need to shorten.

Just a thought..Maybe you could try to get these? Just cut your cable to desired length and clamp these after installin/settin your clutch to desired feel..:cheeky:

You can adust at the carb side. This is where big adjustments are done. The throttle side is for minor adjustments.

What do you mean too long? You mean throttle feel or the cable is poking out of the bike?

Buy the original bead and request a tool to clamp the cut-off section, my guess is tat a special tool is needed to clamp tat portion.

yup. i got the tool to crimp it, i oso got the solder iron.... but the thing is, no shop seems to carry the bead. :weep:

maybe coz its too cheap so they dun sell separately? maybe they dun anticipate the need to shorten the length by dat much?

throttle feel.... i have to twist throttle by ~30 degrees before it starts to pull the slider in the carb. i've oredi adjuster the tension to the max already but still not tight enough :weep:

bro 2cm loose doesn't make any diff if u want to cut it. The wire need that tolerance so as the wire won't get to tight up when u initiating u're left and right turn on the handle.

The thingy that I posted way way above the other posts will solve your problem..Tho it says its for brakes (its a bicycle product) it can also be used for clutch as well..As long as its got a cable for it to be attached to..:cheeky:

Did you adjust at the carb side?

Although one way is to cut the cable (assuming for some reason the cable is much longer than the housing/sleeve), the other way is to extend the sleeve. It's not the cable length but the length (or rather position) of the sleeve that affects the throttle action.

But I suspect some other probs rather than cable length. Have you let other people take a look?

hi snowparang... i tink the sleeve u r referring to is the small copper cylinder that is pulling the slider in the carb rite? dat is the problem which i've been trying to solve ie. to reposition the sleeve. but since the original sleeve has oredi been crimped n soldered dead to the cable at the wrong position, the only thing i can do is to cut away the original sleeve n put another sleeve further up. but the thing is, i can't seem to find bikeshops which sell the sleeve....

i'm pretty much sure dat shortening the cable n repositioning the sleeve will solve my problem. as for letting other mechs take a look, i'd rather try to DIY 1st coz i take pride in modding my bike by myself. i mean... my bike cheap lah... so even if spoilt oso no big deal coz spareparts are cheap.... but the satisfaction derived from DIY-ing ur bike is priceless...

By sleeve I mean the outer tubing (usually black) where your throttle cable runs through it. For e.g. when you adjust the nut at the throttle side, you realise you're simply pushing the sleeve away or towards the throttle?

Alternatively, buy another throttle cable and try (is your carb std size?) and keep your old one as spare. Less than $30...

I think i got wat u mean. . . u want to move the end tip(wire stop) closer/shorten? (the round thingy at the bottom right of the pic?)

Some outer sleeve/conduit comes with adjustments to lengthen or shorten it. Or you can try some scooter shops where they sell just the internal cable(usually for vespa clutch cable but might work). Then cut to required length and the end tip is screwed on. see 2nd pic.

nothing beats the satisfaction from DIY :thumb: . . . Hope this helps.
