not quite true, they do service bikes purchased from other shops. meng tong is skillful and mainly works on class2 bikes. very highly sought after mechanic.

mr lee's prices are usually on the high side, interest rate used is also high but other than that, it's a trustworthy shop to patronise.

vfr is a very nice bike. once the v-4 engine starts reverberating, the feeling is simply orgaismic. as every owner will tell you, vfr is very unlike any other bike (which is true!). it is generally reliable although there are some electronic gremlins to watch out for. only problem: it runs hot due to the v-4 engine configuration and side mounted radiators, and can be uncomfortable during slow/stop-start traffic.

the owner speaks...

My rubber brake hoses seem to show signs of bulging whenever i braked; think I better change to those stainless steel ones.

Anyone here using Spiegler brake hose or Hel or Venhill & very very satisfied? Think I 'll just get the most popular ones.

btw ,there's a promotion of $180 including installation now for Spiegler.

i had tried hel and venhill... prefer venhill...

in terms of performance, i would say most of the hose are the same... it is at the end the design and finishing...

His bike is in get condition and only used as weekend bike only... :lovestruck:

Ah long: I'm seriously considering selling my bold'or. Like what Tim mentioned, only 6k plus mileage as of now. But I got to see my options. Since my bike still under COI, I have to ask my bike shop whether I can transfer to another buyer. Failing which, I have to sell back to the bike shop. You interested to buy ah?

floppy: Are you a VFR rider? still have so many things to learn about the machine... I've heard so much about the bike, but only in words and still very noob. Hehe... Hope to gain more experience and level up soon! :cheeky:

yes, i'm riding one.

however, a word of caution. don't expect too much from this bike as it does have some weaknesses. on the whole, its strengths should outweigh its weaknesses though. no need to hurry if you haven't gotten your class2. cb400sf is more than good enough for local riding condition. besides, if you are not riding much, getting a bigger bike is like holding on to a depreciating asset, not entirely worth it.

Hornet 600 is a good grade up from S4 perhaps. If put small windscreen is fine for some touring, nice and light for the windy roads too and cus it has the CBR sports bike engine it's more than fast and responsive enough

For my 2 mth old bikes, my consumption is ard 19km/L. Full tank is 18L with 3L reserve included. I usually will hit 280 before I hit reserve. Then again, it is hard to compare due to many factor. Eg, your riding style, pillion, box, etc.

mine also 280km before reserve. About 18 to 19km per liter. My riding style is not to be imitated (bad), some more got side boxes & rear box.

Hope those who intend to go coolant flushing can learn something below. Those who do not have temp gauge may have to be extra vigilant with their reservoir level after reading the below:-

...........................................

:giddy: today while at motoworld to change my bike battery, i checked my coolant reservoir level. It was empty! A few days ago, i also topped up the coolant level by at least a quarter of the reservoir. It was a total of 2 top ups after my second reflush. That means quite a substantial amount of topping up after the last flushed.

How to explain this? Leakage somewhere? My radiator cap not working? The coolant additives which are supposed to raise the boiling point thus preventing excessive boiling is insufficient? (I did tried to buy a bottle of the Maxima concentrates)

Or maybe S4 's coolant system is naturally designed like this, there 's a lot of air pockets trapped inside the radiator system, which can't be rid off during the coolant topping up process no matter how good the workmanship. On a hind note here, motorworld & Racewerkz 's workmanship are supposedly reputable, especially Racewerkz as seen in the SBF threads. I am personally impressed with the Racewerkz 's boss technical knowledge too.

In another words , it needs to undergo the hot & cold cycles to purge out the trapped pockets. What i mean is when engine is running, the trapped air will be pushed out from the radiator cap 's side opening into the reservoir - due to increased temp & pressure. When engine stops & radiator cools, a vacuum formation at the radiator will sucks the coolant back from the reservoir to top up the radiator system - thus replacing the voids formerly occupied by the trapped air. Thus the reservoir level will drops naturally as well. This cycle got to repeat for many days or 1-2 weeks before the system level stabilised.

But I noticed one thing also that the mechanic in Motorworld & Racewerkz did not do something for Ones_co & me respectively. It's written in the S4 manual for coolant flushing , which says the last step is to use a handpump with build-in pressure gauge & radiator cap attachment to pressure up the system & hold for a few minutes to see if pressure can maintains. This will confirms if any hoses or drain nuts are not fully tightened etc. Today I noticed that Motorworld got that special handpump, but I wonder why they never used it on Ones_co 's R1 when he flushed his coolant that day?

But visually, there was no leakage for my bike at all.

Anyway today i replaced my radiator cap too at motorworld to eliminate this possibility of my cap malfunction. As you know, the radiator cap acts like a pressure regulator , operates & maintains the radiator system at 1.1bar when the engine is running, thus raising the boiling point of water to about 120 + degC. (higher system press=higher boiling pt). So a faulty radiator cap can results in lower boiling pt , excessive boiling & lost of coolant.

Hopefully the reservoir level will maintain from now on. Perhaps all air pockets are cleared by now. Furthermore got new radiator cap.

On a positive note, temperature wise, its definitely lower than my previous stock coolant which is having 50% glycol. Glycol do raise the boiling point of the system if used in sufficient volume, but its heat carrying capacity (specific heat capacity or latent heat) is many times less than water. Thats why I avoided using Motul & Engine Ice & the original honda stock coolant which are using 50% glycols. This explains for my bike very slow rising of temp at traffic light & lower temp during cruising (compared to my previous stock coolant)

Been told BT020 very long lasting but can't handle rain, meaning grip not good. Am using BT014, quite good, or u can try BT021.
