Good question and it's quite interesting because I just downloaded a copy of the owner's manual (from Aust. website). Looks authentic and is for Singapore & Australia models. This manual states that Honda recommends 12,000km or 12 months, whichever comes first, for engine oil and oil filter replacement.

Can someone please check your hard-copy of the manual? I just got my used Revo and I don't have a copy.

Thanks

I have a copy, actually it depends on the distance. The manual and the Boon Siew itself will also say the same thing.

Normal bike shop will tell you about 1k run in, subsequent will be 3k and above for EO change.

After that maybe every 3k depending on bike whether new / old.

New bike can hit 5k and condition depends on if you are using half syn or fully syn

Hahaha... that's why I said "interesting" :)

Thanks, for your confirmation, @GothRod :thumb:

For the longest time, I've been wondering about this service interval thing. All this while I couldn't find any car or bike manufacturer who dared to confirm that my oil change practice is ok. Honda has finally done so in the Revo manual. :thumb::thumb::thumb:

All the mechanics I've used in SG so far recommend 3k-5k km oil change intervals. I've ignored their recommendations and followed my own schedule of 8k-10k depending on where I ride during that period.*

With Honda's 12k/12months intervals my belief has now been justified: Mechanics' recommendation of 3-5k km is to make more money from us bikers!

[* - Note that I use the one of best fully synthetic oil available ($33/litre). Going to explore another oil to save more money...]

By the way, oil and oil filter change intervals is not dependant on whether it is a new or old bike, except when running in a new bike. My practice for running in period is to change oil and filter at 100km/500km/1000km marks.

Based on the Hard Break in data for new Spec 3 and Revo.

The REVO accelerated faster to 8k rpm than a Spec 3 in all gears. Gearing is the same.

No definitive consumption figures on the REVO yet.

520 chain conversion on the REVO.

There was a speedo diff of 9% against Rear Wheel SPD, this 520 translated only a diff of 3% deficiency.

Yes, noticed Racewerk's thread too. Good info on what they did.

BTW, Racewerk's experiments indicate that fitting after market air filter without tuning would result in performance loss.

Did you do any dyno runs after you fitted the K&N and Leo Vince end can?

nope, only did the hard break in, then subsequently fitted the slip-on and filter.

Not neccessary to do a dyno run unless have the spare cash to find out the A/F ratio and HP or fitting in a PC.

Hey Guys

Check this little info out, yesterday i went to do grounding with Ah Pek.

He told me that if you have a industrial magnet, those really strong ones using mainly on computer hard disk types.

Place that little piece of magnet on the oil filter itself, this will enable the metallic particles to be stuck to the ends of the filter when the gear grind or anything that the engine has rubbed off.

Very useful tip, give it a try.

Tuning is not necessary for Revo as of yet, changing air filter will also not increase any power significantly as the chamber is limited.

From my understanding unless for exhaust the header is changed then tuning is required

You using $33 for EO, must be Motul 300 right? good brand and good oil. At least the packaging is original from the land of origin.

When change engine oil, feel the texture and make sure it is not totally watery. If yes change the EO asap. (recommended by bike shop) Good oil will have some remains of texture so its safe.

OWS also not recommend as the life span very short. Depending on the oil and the distance you run will determine the EO good or bad. Good EO should also have the substance Esther (correct me if I am wrong) to neutralize the water inside the engine.

I have the REVO manual, contact me if you want, i go photostat for you

K&N oil filter also have this function.

I also have the Oil filter magnet which serve the same purpose, just tat mine is 6 small magnets which forms a ring around the filter.

i shipped in tat time, just wanna try out the product.

It will also attract small road debris/particles/metal (iron/copper).

Not tat recommended to use hard disk magnet as wat if u not careful when handling and it attracts to the engine or other parts of the bike which result in difficulties in removing.

Use K&N oil filter will do actually :)

Yes, I was using Motul 300V. Good oil :thumb: but expensive :(

So I'm going to experiment with another good oil but cheaper in the long run. Will post info when I'm done with the "experiment"...

OWS also not recommend as the life span very short. Depending on the oil and the distance you run will determine the EO good or bad. Good EO should also have the substance Esther (correct me if I am wrong) to neutralize the water inside the engine.

OWS! Stay far far away... LOL

Feeling the oil texture with your fingers is a good way to check. Smell as well. Just don't judge the oil by it's colour.

There are also other more "scientific" ways to test oil condition. Sorry mates, no time to post at the moment. KIV pls.

Thanks! :thumb::thumb: Photostat for me please. My hp no in you PM box.

True that, the magnet is actually hard to remove when stuck. require a pair of pilers for removal.

The 6 magnets is also a good thing as the hard disk one is kinda orbit. haha.

KNN if you can afford and mine is the cheap alternative.

That day Ah Pek also recommended a tin can called Meaguire use for polishing our headers.

It is sold at NTUC AMK (the big one) blue tin and green cap. Can use very long, better than AUTOSOL
