Mine is also about 200-220km when I hit reserve.

How did you come to this conclusion? Does your spark plugs indicate this?

This is the way to get good fuel consumption or rather fuel efficient numbers. From his description, @Fowler rides in a gentle manner. If I were to hazard a guess, he would typically change gears at about 4.5k-5k RPM and he slowly build up speed to about 120km/h on the expressways. The fact that he also rides over a longer distance help with FC numbers.

Unfortunately, my typically trip in Singapore is about 2km or start and stop rides. I also like to ride in a more spirited manner. Thus my fuel consumption numbers are about 18km/L.

@StrongBow also asked if PC5 can help save fuel without sacrificing power. My personal view is that there is no such thing as wanting to have the power and save fuel. Unless we are talking about redesigning a more fuel efficient engine, like the NC700, all things being equal power and fuel efficiency are quite mutually exclusive. In fact the NC700 just goes to show that it lacks the power of the Revo, which has a smaller engine, to reach the top speed of 190km/h.

Before spending any money on a PC5, I recommend anyone complaining about fuel consumption numbers on their bike to mirror the riding style of Fowler. Do it for about a week and you would be surprised at what your bike can achieve.

bro, u roughly 2km per day n fc 200-220?

i guess we ride hard. lol

Hi all,

My Speedo Meter Backlight spoiled, left speedo no light, but the rpm meter and the center HISS, Neutral lights are still intact.

How do I go about to change the bulb?

If I go bike shop, how much roughly to restore the lights?

Please advise.

Thanks in advance.

But mine will reach 300-320km b4 reserve. Wif PC5, full system sp tadao twin muffler n i ride quite aggressive coz i like to speed. I will ride 140-170km/h on expressway everyday. How come some of ur fc will reach 200-220km b4 reserve? I'm just wondering why

Actually, about once a week I would do about 15-20km.

My bike is stock with only a K&N filter, running 96 or 97RON fuel.

I have experienced maintaining at 140km/h average speed on one full tank on part of a trip. That generally means 110/120 when there's traffic and 150km/h when overtaking and about 85% of the time at 140km/h. My fuel consumption on that section is about 19km/L.

On a 120km/h average speed section, I achieved a best FC of about 21km/L.

My typical ride up north is at about 170km/h average speed. The resulting FC is about 17km/L.

It is a fact that when running any engine (bike or car) at higher RPMs the fuel consumption increases. This is because the engine has less time per cycle to completely burn the fuel (incomplete combustion), resulting in fuel wastage.

@tzmdegil 300-320km before hitting reserve while riding aggressively is very impressive indeed. When you had your PC5 installed, did you specifically ask the mechanic to tune your it so you can save on fuel?

On that note, I would caution against running on too lean air/fuel mixture just to save fuel. It's just being penny wise pound foolish. Here is why:

The light bulb itself costs about 50 cents. If your bike mech is friendly, they may charge you $1. Some shops may charge you $5 to change the bulb.

Are you guys pleased with the headlight beam brightness, pattern, and spread of the super4? I have other bikes, and in comparison, I find the beam quality: (i) even-ness of the spread (ii) distance projection, to be pretty poor quality.

I've already replaced it with a superbright higher wattage bulb. The bulb is good on its own, it's the reflector unit that is a bit disappointing. Especially when I am riding on dark malaysian roads with no street lamps.

Any options for replacing our headlights to a better one?

I ride up north quite often as well and I'm quite happy with the Revo's light.

However, I should mention that I am using the Osram Night Breaker Plus H4 bulb. It has a very good long throw and is brighter than stock/standard H4 bulbs. It is not a white light bulb, thus it's excellent in dark and/or raining conditions.

When I was shopping around for a replacement bulb last year (I found the stock H4s to be too weak), I was clued in to Osram's bulb by a Fastbikes magazine review. I was also considering the top Philips bulb. Given that the Osram bulb was about 1/3 of the Philips bulb, it was a no brainer. You might want to give it a try.

Fowler is riding a Revo. I believe what he means is that he usually change gears before vtec opens. However when on the expressways he does ride to about 110-120km/h but this is a gradual build up of speed.

yupyup..correct.. :)i liek gradual speed.. esp those nosiy mat rempit jb bikes.. nabe make so much noise... then i slowly creep from behind overtake thme.. haha..

but i am still unsure abt that open valve thingy.. is it because i rarely open vtec thats why my vtec now only activates at 7K+ rpm.. should i change my riding style? or go shop as them to check it our for me?

Ride for our loves ones..

Fowler, my riding style also same as you, relax riding & enjoy the ride.

Why FC varies among different riders/bikes, the throttle valve regulates the amount of fuel and air into the combustion chamber, the more you open throttle, the faster you go as more air and fuel enters via the throttle body into the combustion chamber.

Changing your own meter light saves you a lot of money! :) My is a CB400 Spec 1. I think the bulbs locations are the same for all Super 4 with VTEC. Maybe someone with a non vtec can "tear" apart his/her meter too. ;D

I only spend USD$ 3.40 for the pair of T10 from dealextreme. :D Time spent is about 30min as I took my time to figure out how to remove the meter.

Step 1: Remove the bolts that is holding your headlight and the headlight bracket.

http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y71/lycanboy/Forum%20Usage/CameraZOOM-20120404163159237.jpg

Step 2 & 3: Remove the bolts from both sides (Circled in Red) that are holding the headlight bracket and the meter. Then remove 3 screws for the covers behind the meter. Circled in purple.

http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y71/lycanboy/Forum%20Usage/CameraZOOM-20120404163421383-1.jpg

Step 4: Put out the sockets and you will see the meter light sockets

http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y71/lycanboy/Forum%20Usage/CameraZOOM-20120404164203749.jpg

Step 5: Replace it with your new T10 and switch on your ignition. If the new T10 doesnt like up, the polarity might be wrong. Pull out, flip it over

and insert it again. If it still doesnt light up, you have a faulty bulb(unless your light socket wiring is already faulty for some reason).

WALLA!

I changed it to orange(same as stock) because I like the colour. However, I wanted to save some electricity so I used LED instead of filament bulbs. ;) It is bright enough to illuminate the whole meter :D

Have fun!

maybe this will be useful for you if you intend to DIY.

Thanks bro. Will definitely check out your bulb. I am currently using Hela 55/60W ($30) which is brighter than original but yours should be better. Am very tempted to buy fog lamps but the cost is high, few hundred bucks!! How much is your osram bulb and where did you get it from? Thanks!

bros, fuel pump and tps is it the same thing?

two days ago my revo got this problem. when starting my bike, my rpm gradually fall from 1.5 to 0 then the engine dies off sometimes at the traffic light. so yesterday i went to a bikeshop and ask the mechanic to check for me. the mechanic change for me the spark plug and wash my air filter for me. after that he test the bike and the problem seems solved. but after i went home when i about to reach my home the same problem occurs. so today morning i went back to the shop again. the mechanic after afew test n check he adjust the fuel injector. after that the problem seems solved. but again when i went back home and about to reach home, the problem of the rpm gradually fall from 1.5 to 0 came back. after that i went to another bikeshop for help. they diagnose and check that my radiator is leaking and the problem may be due to the leakage. so i change to a new radiator, but the rpm problem still occurs and the bike still will die off by itself.

after a long check, the mechanic says its the fuel pump sensor faulty.

pls help.

do you still have your old radiator with you?

Sorry for the mis-quote in my previous post. The Philips bulb at $58 was 1/3 more than the Osram ($39).

On a side note, I've asked him to bring in the NGK Iridium plugs for Revo but I'm not sure if he did so or not. If you're there and want to get the Iridium plugs, make sure it is CR9EHIX-9 and not the code as posted in the FAQ thread. The CR9 runs cooler.

yupyup..correct.. file://localhost/Users/thomashoongsenglim/Library/Caches/TemporaryItems/msoclip/0clip_image002.gifi liek gradual speed.. esp those nosiy mat rempit jb bikes.. nabe make so much noise... then i slowly creep from behind overtake thme.. haha..

@Fowler

Maybe I'm using a flip helmet or my hearing has gone really really bad but to me, the Revo is so smooth that it is not very discernible when VTEC kicks in (unlike the Spec1 or 2). So, I'm curious as to how you know your VTEC is activated at 7k RPM.

You are however correct to be concerned if there are longer term effects of being a gentle rider. If you continue to only ride the way you are riding, after some time and when you or the next owner wants to push it to higher speeds, it will have difficulty going beyond a certain RPM.

See my post here for some idea of what this is about.

is there a DIY thread for Revo to input a T10 led bulb to indicate opening of VTEC...???

There is 1 unused indicator slot at the meter there.

@hanern

I’m not sure if there’s a DIY thread for what you want but here is an easier one:

Look at tachometer and see if needle is past 6,350RPM. If yes, VTEC is on. If not, VTEC is not on. Also note while line on tachometer from 6,350 to 13,000 indicating VTEC activation range. :shades:

Relax lah, bro. :o

Why add a light just to know if VTEC is on or not? My personal view is just ride. If you want to save on petrol, ride like Fowler. If petrol is not an issue, whack the bike once in awhile or as often as you want to. Just be careful when doing so…

yes spark plug indicated it. and the carbon at the exhaust. also when throttle is open hard, black smoke comes out. PC5 done. currently fc so far so good. still counting my mileage

@f-50evolution

I hope with the PC5, you are no longer getting any black smoke. If there is, your piston rings are shot. Do watch the engine oil level. Engine oil also deteriorate faster if you were running too rich. Suggest that you change the oil too.

anyone knows what bike cover size should i buy for revo with box? thanks

@Junghwan

Extra Large. I have a 55 litre box and my Large sized cover is not big enough at the back. :slapforehead:

Anyone knows where i can get a rectifier and coil for spec 3 and roughly how much?

Recently got problems with my spec 3 [earlier post on ticking sound}, went to 2 workshops, mech bullshit here and there, change my rectifier to the small one which was used in VER S, told by another mech my rectifier for spec 3 is the bigger type.

Anyways recently overhaul the whole engine, new block and pistons [ticking sound was from pistons rubbing against block] top service done.

@ramsnake, thanks for the advise on getting to a reputable mech. So now left with issues of charging... recharged my battery and found that voltage around 13.8V even after revving and on high speed around 12.5V [ voltage while idling is measured using a proper voltmeter not the display one we usually use on our bikes]..

I guess, I need to change my rectifier to optimise my charging, the mech I went to quoted me $165 original Spec 3 Rectifier[big Type]

Anyone with any advise?

Thanks
