Any idea how much will it cost?

Heard of it before, about $300-$500 including the petrol used to stationary run in the bike. I suggest run in yourself to save the money... Not worth it to throw it away just like that... U know?

hi all

juz got a brand new revo and was wondering wat is the mileage for running in?

Congrats on the new bike!

I recommend running in for the first 1,000km. Honda recommends changing oil and oil filter at 1,000km followed by another one at 12,000km.

However, I recommend changing engine oil and oil filter more often during the running in period at the following intervals:

100km

300km

600km

1,000km

Use mineral engine oil for the first 3 oil changes. At the 1,000km oil change, use fully synthetic. Next oil change as recommended by Honda is 12,000km. However, my oil change interval is every 10,000km.

The reason why you should change oil and oil filter more often during the running in period is that a lot of metal pieces are shaved off the engine internals during initial running in. These will be floating in the oil, while some would be captured by the filter. If you do not change the oil, those metal pieces that are not captured by the filter will be rubbing against the pistons and engine walls. When your mech drains the oil, you will be able to see the metal in the oil pan.

Be wary of the source of information for your bike's maintenance. Some FAQs are compiled by people who lack the technical know how.

Hey guys, any good braided brake lines I can get online ? (From Australia). What is recommended length for clip ons installation? Stock lines are too cramped and tight.

Personally,

I would prefer Venhill, Swage, Spiegler, Hel n ect..

Depends on own preferences

Thanks HaiR1 for your reply. Do you know the stock length of brakes lines for cb400?

Have a look here:

http://www.helperformance.com/motorcycle/honda/cb400/

They don't seem to categorise any for the Revo (2008 onwards). I suggest you use a string to measure your existing hoses and liase with HEL directly.

Any bros here tried changing to a new seat that is more comfortable for long distance touring? Can share your reviews, price and address of shop that you did it at?

I have found shops overseas (online order) with comfort ergonomic seats, designed to relief pressure off your tail bone, and dual density foam (softer outer layer, firmer inner layer), with real breathable leather. All good stuff. But the shipping price is a shocker!! Cause probably the seat is so big, shipping ain't gonna be cheap!

Thanks for the help, if any bros know. Cheers.

$100-120 including new EO & filter for dyno hard break-in. They will advice you on EO interval change thereafter.

Normal run-in, follow the manual or i can advice change at 300km(mineral EO & new oil filter), 1000km, 2000km using semi-syn EO and new oil filter.

Change EO at normal oil interval after running-in.

Engine Oil: Semi-syn change every 3000km(Can +/- up to 1000km), Fully-syn change every 5000km (Can +/- up to 1000km)

Frequency of Oil Change

Manufacturers recommend that because of the higher heat and faster breakdown of lubricant viscosity, oil should be changed more frequently in motorcycles than in cars.

Nv changed a new seat before.

Heard of reviews that Gel seat is confortable, maybe you can look into that?

"Honda has been the world's largest motorcycle manufacturer since 1959, as well as the world's largest manufacturer of internal combustion engines measured by volume, producing more than 14 million internal combustion engines each year."

Being the world's largest motorcycle manufacturer, surely Honda knows a thing or two about "engine heat and breakdown of lubricant viscosity" in motorcycles. Now, why would Honda recommend 12,000km oil change intervals?

I have a friend who rode a S4 VerS for many years, no problem, and he changes his oil every 10,000km. I believe that the need to frequently change oil, as often as 3000km as recommended by some mechanics, is their way of generating more sales and profit. With a good fully synthetic oil coupled with a good oil filter (our bikes have, but some other bikes doesnt have engine oil filter), I believe that Honda is accurate in its service interval recommendations (i.e. 12000km).

Honda would not put that figure down, and risk having their bikes suffering mechanical problem - that would become not only a legal issue for them (as it's official manual recommendation from manufacturer) but also a PR nightmare.

For seat, I have not been (yet) able to locally find a seat manufacturer that does Gel seat inserts or dual density foam. Shops like 219 and Auntie Shop, does only standard single layer foam.

Put the bike seat condom? It allows air to go through as its a netting... Haven't tried it myself though... Had seen some good reviews about it...

Spot on! These mechs just want to sell their service packages to make more money for themselves. It's easy for them to do it because they play on unsuspecting bike owners' emotions. Putting emotions aside, the fact remains that Honda is a reputable manufacturer and as you have rightly said, would not risk any PR nightmares by recommending an unsustainable oil change interval.

So, please stop changing your engine oils at 3000 or 5000km. Stop advising people to change at those low intervals. Not only are you wasting money, you are wasting one of the planet's most limited supplies.

Agree. Last paragraph should be "sticky" note advice in this forum. Trust the manual. Collectively we could reduce wastage.

i agree with that too i've also stopped changing engine oil at 5km interval and sticking to 10km or when my fuel efficiency starts to drop

FYI, IMO, Don't you guys feel that Honda never revise its CB400 oil change interval for Revo?

Currently dealing with EFI Revo and not those Carb S4 models.

High idling speed for EFI bikes which generate more heat.

Singapore climate is different from Japan.

Singapore riding condition is also different due to many stop & go intervals when encountering traffic jams.

Heat will speed up EO degrading process.

Preventive is always better than corrective.

My GSXR manual states every 6000km mileage oil change interval. Why not Suzuki use the 10k mileage for oil change for their EFI bikes?

Suzuki engine not as comparable and durable compared to Honda engine? I beg to differ.

GSXR & Revo both are 4 cynlinder 16 valve engine, just different engine capacity and combustion rates.

I rode Spec I-III before so can compare how much the difference between EFI Revo with Carb CB400.

I never insist on the oil change interval for the general public, I only sharing my knowledge/opinions on why I don't follow the manual blindly on certain issues.

Food for though ....
