PC was running well and stable until recently.

Added a new 80GB Harddisk which i kept for sometime.

Now my PC cannot take too much applications it freezes up.

Sometimes, watching movies, a slide of the time bar causes my PC to freeze.

Need to reset to get it running again.

Checked the device manager already, no conflict with my new HD.

Is it possible that my PC power supply (should be 400V) is running out of juice? Anyone experts out there can advise?

Running on P4 2.4Gz, 1 Gb DDR2 Ram, a DVD rom, A Cd writer, 2 HD, 6600GT graphics card, 4 utilised USB ports and the occasional usage of the front USB ports.

Ayone can help? Thanks!

400V power supply.. with the stuff u have on unless its 400v (REAL) i dun think its sufficient.

Simple test will answer your questions.

unplug the 80gb hdd and see if problem persist.

If above is not an option, try unplug ur USB applications, unplug one of the cd drives.

IMO, the graphics card eats the most power, so might just be a power problem

I don't think it's a PWR supply issue.

Your PC is slow may be due to some other issues:

Let's say you attach the new HD then it slows:

- Check the HD rpm:

5400 or 7200 or ??

The higher the better. If it's 5400, the PC is taking time to read the whole disk again and again. Accessing disks may take a huge amount of time.

- Check the IDE bus that u used to attach the HD:

If you connect the HD to the same IDE bus that is connecting to your main HD (the one which has window installed), seriously it will slow down the whole OS (by how much ?? depends on your Processing PWR)

If you take out the HD and see the "happy" PC again, probably it's one of the cases.

On the other hand, if the problem persists even there is no new HW... well you are actually overloading your PC with alot of software installed, 1GB DDR may not be enuff for you. The RAM is the next candidate in line. Over the time, as new softwares are installed to the PC, more stuffs are loaded to RAM at boot up, and.. yes after sometimes.. 1GB will not be enuff.

YOu can start un-installing unused software already...

Just my 2cents..

But i beg to differ. He says his PC FREEZES not become slow..

In what you say the HDD RPM, the whole com should be slow from the booting.

And 1GB ram even if insufficient will once again cause the com to be slow. Or even crawling.

But the above will not cause a com to FREEZE.

I assume the freeze he talking about will refer to boxy graphics, errors from graphics card, followed by freeze screen and intermittent sound (repeatative sound aka hang)

Slow and freeze i would look at the mouse. if its moving it aint hang.

hdd and graphics card and processors eat up significant power. these 3 most power demanding stuff

Thanks for the input, my com do not freeze slowly.

It freezes in an instant and have to reboot. So power might be a problem?

Will try unplugging the HD first

Bought a higher power output PS. Hope it solves my problem. Will try the ram switch as well. Wish me luck.
