Indian Scout Owners thread

Hi All

Thought I'd start up the thread for all Indian Scout owners.

I know that there likely wont be many of us initially, however I'm confident that once people start trying this brilliant alternative to the HD's there'll be more and more of us.

Would be nice to hear which versions and mods we do to the bike.... I'll start.

I have the traditional Red Scout. (I think the matt black and matt grey will be the most popular colours)

Installed - Jeckill & Hyde aftermarket pipes (homologated) these are really just the best you can get... purr like a kitten, or wail like a banshee with this high compression engine.

Installed - Pinnacle Mirrors from the Chief; much better angle of view and more solid than the standard.

Installed - (when they arrive) - Panniers and spools. will take a 15" laptop, so pretty good size.

Will add - Tourer seat for pillion, back rest for pillion and (pegs or boards for pillion)

Will change: The grips for a little thicker. Likely will look to have leather wraps on them to keep the theme, however I may wait for the aftermarket to catch up.

Possible changes:

Progressive springs on the front suspension to really stiffen slightly from stock as its a little soft. perfectly adequate, but I think it would smooth things out a little better.

LED bulb for the headlight, just a cleaner and (more noticeable) alteration.

Just running the bike in currently so no high revs (I know this sounds at complete odds to a cruiser, but this engine gets confused as a bit of a sports bike rev wise) and there is plenty of torque on tap so you don't need to push the bike too hard to overtake.

Runs at a constant 90-100 degrees temp in traffic, so again very standard, heat from the engine is not uncomfortable, it is hot, but not outside what you expect.

The engine idle is not as rough as a sportster, has that "thumper" feel, but its actually a nice throb from the engine.

So far the gears are very smooth and snick in to drive without complaint. I havent really had a lot of difficulty finding neutral, however i do think the bike is going to be sensitive to clutch cable adjustment. Its one of the shortest bites to engage I've ever experienced.

For rider comfort, no really long runs yet, but the seat seems firm, and relatively comfortable... perhaps not after 3 hours in the saddle, but again we'll see.

The best thing about the bike is coming from a Boulevard this feels like a bicycle its so narrow, it also has exceptional weighting, and without being sexist, I think any woman looking for a real bike but one where reach, height of seat and balance are critical... this is perfect. Its very flickable, and agile with again a very good lean angle for a cruiser.

I'll update as I go along for both positives and negatives, would be good to hear from other owners... or potential owners.

The important thing is the after sales service

Fair comment and so far Mah have performed well above expectation.

No issues to exactly deal with, so i cant comment on the dealing of warranty etc, but to be honest if I never have to test this I'll be happy.

I think for me the important thing is that these are official imports i.e. its a real warranty unlike many of the parallels we see.... however getting a little off topic now...

Careful of those parallel importers that bring in yamaha etc bikes. They only give 6 mths warranty n price not much cheaper than agent bikes

thanks! went down just now... the Indian bikes were there but not the main event of the show... they are showcasing the Italian brands which in my opinion has better deals during this weekend.

Yup. The Open House is actually for the completion of their renovation of the 1st floor showroom named MotoPlex which houses the Italian brands.

The Moto Guzzi comes with full COE and I heard all the existing stock for the V7 II were all snapped up. Next shipment is in Dec!! And a couple of my friends also gotten the free COE deal for their Triumphs.

would love to hear on your report before deciding to purchase. Knowing that this bike is build in america and made for america weather and climate condition, i wonder how it will perform in Singapore condition. The heat from the engine during the common Jams in singapore, the wear and tear, the fuel consumption. How often do i need to pump petrol? Any upgrades to the tank to increase the capacity?

Any of you riders have the saddle bags installed? Is it rain proof? Hope to get some answers on this as i am really keen on this bike.

Thanks bros.

Hi, I visited Mah showroom at Ubi last week but was not very happy with the salesman way of answer (didn't find out his name).

I "the Indian motorcycles are all air cooled, any overheating issues in Singapore when we stuck in traffic jam or waiting at custom?"

Salesman "sir, who in the right frame of will drive his bike during custom peak hour? Who will want to go JB at 5 pm weekdays when all Malaysian bikes jam up there custom?"

I"sometime no choice leh, like unexpected jam, will it overheat?, because Singapore is hot"

Salesman "sir if you stuck in traffic jam, all brands if motorcycle will overheat, not Indian motorcycles alone, switch off engine loh".

I stopped talking, but feel like saying, my Suzuki burgman jam at custom many times but never overheat even didn't switch off engine leh.

Anyway, have anyone encountered traffic jam driving an Indian bikes? Any overheating issues?

Bro, if i m not wrong Scout is 1200cc water cool. Btw u r there for the bike not the salesmen ya :p

Ya the truth is all big bikes (i mean really big cc) will have heat issue when caught in traffic jam. I have/had like 7 cl2 bikes & yes all tried to cook my balls in traffic jams. A couple of time, approaching SG custom, i had to off the engine & push the bikes b4 frying my own banana wuhahaha

Is that normal price for a USD10.5k bike? The Yamaha MT10 is a USD14k bike. Heard it's selling at 30k too.

Bro look @the OMV (open market value), the real value of the bike, the price the agent paid for the bike. Use the OMV & add 27% of taxes & 7%Gst & there abt the cost. b4 it gets in the showroom not forgetting other factors like shipping, administration, overhead, profit margins etc etc

My Cross Country has a OMV of $24,000 was sold @$48,000 vs my V-Strom having an OMV of $8,000+ being sold to me @$28,000.

Sooooo...which is more worth buying? Btw do u choose ur bike with ur brain or ur heart?

Btw u r taking abt American mkt rite? Do note that in USA Victory, Indian, Harley, Ford, Lincoln etc r Local brands, local products. Yamaha, Suzuki, Honda etc r imports, the taxation, the marketing r very different to SG & Yes Jap bikes relatively cost more, over in USA, as compare to other makes.

Bro, I think Yamahur is saying, comparing Indian Octane and Yamaha MT10, both OTR in Singapore is about $30k, but Indian Octane and Yamaha MT10 have OMVs of $10.5k and $14k respectively, then isn't it the bike shop made extra $3.5k plus taxes from the innocent buyer? In other words, the buyer unknowingly paid at least $3.5k as profit to the shop selling Indian Octane.

Correct me if I'm wrong Yamahur.
