I've Called PaiNT KILLER....Their price is kinda steep....I felt like they wanna chop my head. Just to spray a small tank with normal quality paint for 2 colors cost around 400 plus. I think it is expensive. Use to paint a whole bike and it cost only $400.

bro u cannot judge from just like that.there is alot of hard work that goes into painting. i have used spray cans b4.. thats why i can tell u the process is not fun at all.

u dun have to do much.. u yourself jus try to sand the surface till its flat and smooth. i can bet with u all my money u'll rather other ppl do for u.. then after u do that u go think how much u wanna charge ppl if someone comes to u to spray a tank... bear in mind a tank got curved surfaces... add in the cost of the paint , lacquer and labour... i'm sure yur price might also come up till that range. of cos $400+ it might be on the higher side.. but dun say ppl trying to chop u la.. if u think he trying to be funny u can dun use his service.. simple as that.

Airbrushing a design is different from spray painting a single color coat. Every color is a different template. Takes to do one with lots of design and color. And also to make it look like one design instead of 10,000 different layers of coats of paint. Also cannot use normal paint. It'll flake off.

But 2 tone color spray only....Maybe it's just a rough quote? Over the phone usually hard to describe what you want. Even if you can, the guy might not be able to visualize. I think best to go down and show them and they can quote accordingly.

Prices also went up everywhere. Sadness man. If our salary increase too I won't mind, but it's just like global warming. Water level rise, we stay on ground. :(

i think if you consider 400bux for a kustom paintjob is ex, then i think you should scrap the idea.

give the guys a break, to spray a tank outside cost you what? 100-150-200bux? ard there i believe. and you are paying 200plus more extra to buy another man's talent, skills and time.

to paint a quality artwork is not something like "systematic." total concentration and commitment is involve and of course not forgetting the all important prep job that affects the final outcome of the job.

of course as much as i don't want to is to compare foreign kustom painting rates to local rates. for foreign kustom painters they can be charging 3k a tank U.S DOLLARS. ok..ok fair enough the quality might differ, but c'mon the poor bugger is definitely worth a FRACTION of 3000USD... rite? at 400bux there is no reason to complain or compare ..seriously.

please don't take my comments too seriously, take it as a reference.

i think i have to right to stand up for these ppl as i've been doin airbrushing donkey years ago and given up. because the reason is simple and i'll be straight. NO ONE IS WILLING TO PAY FOR ART.

so my advice is, if its too difficult to part with 400bux, then forget it, seriously.

Its not an air-brush job. Its a normal paint with two color for a design. Thats all.

Oh well, ex then go other shop lor. Simple. Anyway one of our guys did a paint job with 2 tone color too. Very slight pattern for the 2nd tone. Around 300 or so I think. Maybe rates went up lor. Paint and masking tape more ex now.

Its not an air-brush job. Its a normal paint with two color for a design. Thats all.

if its straight forward 2 color job then its on a steep side taking from local context.

then again paint quality differs from brands of paint they use for their 2k polyurethane series.

normal shops uses low to mid end paint like:

sparco/ICI/or other regionally manufactured paints.

some shops do use mid range to high range paints like:

spies hecker/dupont/sikkens/glasurit

and the clearcoat they use plays an important part in terms of pricing as well.

good system clearcoats eases application to almost a flawless finish, of course alot has to depend on the painters prep job and equipments to ensure no moisture is emitted from the compressor by using quality moisture filter and good spray guns help

some believe some don't, but a clearcoat job is never perfect. good painters will finish up the job with a good polishing finish (of course not your regular turtle wax)

so 400bux for the pros quote above is definitely worth it, if not then NO find a cheaper painter.

juz my 2cents worth.

Hey guys, thanks for the support... It's true prices vary becoz of material quality... Beside that ground preparation also impt so I did something before I start the paint... so if u have seen my work n compare, maybe ur perspection may change.... One thing is quite true from a guy saying, I'm not the best so my price is not thousand over, few hundreds is juz wat I think I shud deserve... Don't keep thinking paintwork is cheap, see the result first...

I like to way you put it and i totally agree with what you say bro...Cheers to that...A lot of work is put in even if it's just a simple helmet spray painting or airbrushing work...Basically, any paint will do but what i gather is that the end part of it which is the lacquering is the most crucial...Coz, if the lacquering is not good, whatever paint or design that has been done, it'll completely spoil the work...Some may get cracks or over sprays and that is sucky...Hope this helps, ya....

Here's a guide that I gathered. WR200 paint job around $250 cos have to use special paint otgerwise will crack. Vespa ranges from $200+ to $500+ depending on quality. Cheaper will prob lass 1 or 2 years. More ex of course better.

Just what I found out.

Thanks for the price quotations Plasticblackspecs...Not only does the paint and lacquering plays an important role in this whole process, the quality of the tank/fenders/etc. also plays a part...

That's why most paint shops or airbrush artiste would like to have a view of the tank/fender/ect. before making the proper quotations and it'll be a great thing if they give their opinions and advises on the requested paint job to the owner of the tank/fender/etc. before making any commitments on both sides...Cheers...

Aiya, simple la, too expensive, go to another shop lor. heee. But what you pay is what you get

Yes, yes, totally agree with Plasticblackspecs...Most of all it depends on what's the amount you are willing to spend on the spray painting...I know of riders who would psend a lot of $$$ to get their bikes to re-sprayed and also vice versa, so the decision is up to the owners themselves...Cheers...

there are cheap and expensive paintwork, both has it's pros and cons.

both may look the same when finish, but after some weeks, you may see the difference between a cheapo one and a good one. worst is when bubbles appear and it starts to crack.

i'm not speaking up for paintkiller, but his work is good. go check it out 1st hand, and you'll see it worth every penny. else, go somewhere cheaper, but dun complain if it aint no good.

as a airbrush artist, whether u spray single tone or multicolors, the amount of work and effort put in is enormous... 2 tone paints will take at least 4-5 days to complete w/o the baking oven.

1) prep work 1 whole day, depending on condition of item

2) base paint 1 day (24hrs to dry properly)

3) 2nd color 1 day ((24hrs to dry properly)

4) lacquer 1 day per layer. 2 color paintwork will be at least 2 layers of lacquer, and that means 2 days at least.

i'll rather pay someone to do it even if i know how, cos too lehchey...hahaa, x-iled bro know huh? hahaaa

so TS, you found a good and cheap place to do the paintwork yet? do share so we can compare the paint quality and price... we most bikers always want good and cheap ay?

Let me give you a different perspectve of how clear coat (lacquers are those in spray cans and mostly are acylic based) is judge.

Price......

This is the insider view of how they spray...

1 Litre of Clear can cover an area of 1 tank + head Fairing or 4 helmets

Type Cost Website(dont believe go to the place and ask)

1k paint $10-$20 3014 Ubi Rd 1 (Paint Mart)

Kangaroo

2k Clear $20-$25 http://www.kangaroopaints.com.sg

Clasani

2k Paint $24-$34 http://www.Tonita.com.sg

Kustom

Shop

2K Clear $55 I buy from overseas...smuggle into SG

House of

Kolor Clear

UFC01 $75 http://www.kanfs.com.sg

So if were a shop and you give me budget of $150 to spray tank...

I want to give you good clear or low end clear...

tank will take 1/2L of clear, maximum..

If budget it will take 1/4 clear....one time clear suah...no need for 2nd flow coat... which will look the same but with a very short life span....

but in my view once i open a clear, i will use it up that day...

cause unlike paint..clears can contaminate and can be rederened unsuable and if used may spoil not only the over paint job, but hundreds of dollars in spray guns (well thats how much my spray gun).

So the rest i will throw away, cause no point keeping, not guranteed fresh.

sometimes you just need to step into the painter shoes to understand, that way all misunderstandings can be avoided....
