Just Got a Red Bandit 2 weeks back and now i am rebuilding it.

Will try to DIY myself but if I really cannot cope then I will engage S750WP's help.

As now, the things that I think surely needs to do is:

Technical - sure need

1. Wash carburettors.

2. wash air filter,or change, as old one koyat,

really tempt to use the open air filter as we seen in some of the TW's mod

but concerned abt how to hold the carburetors on that end as the airbox serve as a

structural mounting for the carb on one end.

3. change spark plug, previous owner use Denso U27 which is too cold

will use CR8K or U24 , all 4 old spark plug are black when removed.

spark plug no. 3 and 4 are also rusty, evident that Bandit's plug cap will allow water to

sip in during rain or washing, will have to think of addon a bigger rubber cap or use big a

rubber mat to cover all 4 plug as I have seen before in some of the Honda's bike but then 1 big radiator hose is in the way on each side

4. change clutch plates

Techical - optional (see how is the performance after the above- sure need is done)

1. may need to change the the spark plug wire and cap, now it really looks crap but

can still fire

2. change front fork oil

3. remove the rear suspension and bring it to shop to rebuild (will try teck thye)

Cosmetic - sure need

1. respray tank

2. front fender and rear fender

still unsure of the final colour whether how much to change to black and how much retain itas red.

Thanks t0 Sambal's Picture, I got a better impression of the outlook when it is sprayed 'very' black.

I am still trying to preview the look by painting some part black to see how it looks using MS paint - a very primitive designing method.

Dear S750WP;

To by-pass the coolant thermostat switch and create a manual switch for the coolant fan, can we just short the 2 wires shown in the attached picture ? and connect it to a $2 switch that we can get from Sim Lim Tower and mount the switch to handlebar?

Many Thanks

My (GSF 400 P) Bandit's COE will be expiring Nov 2012.

Any one interested in keeping it? Maybe to do up or keep it classic.

If no takers, I will be (sadly) sending it to the grave. =(

Been with me since Feb 2009. So, just let me know.

Sorry for the late reply, yes it will work I do a manual by pass this way and connected to a switch bought in SLT. I mount the switch between the instrument gauge and the upper triple tree.

I think a better solution is to get a going to scrapped bike and take the vital parts from there to put inot yours.

Yours is the Nov 2012 COE Finishing unit rite?

maybe you can consider taking coolzone's bike and make into one bike and use his COE till 2014.

sad to say that some/many bike shops when you ask them to repair/rebuilt your bandit 400 they ask you to scrap and change bike, they may have a point from the 'economic' point of view cos most new parts for ban4 are expensive if you intend to go to some shop house in Jln Besar and pick them up, if you ship form ebay , it is also quite exp relative to the 'price' your bike can fetch if you sell them.

However, I tend to like to do things contrasting to trend, after 3 months of owning a Bandit 4 and hardly riding it, (I was rebuilting it), this morning I took it to Lim chu Kang for 30 mins ride, the cond of my ban4 now is acceptable liao 'to my standard".

After owning 90 bikes in the last 19 yrs, I can say that the bandit4 has one of the best low to mid range torque to weight ratio in the 400 cc class.

If you stay between 10 km/h to 100 km/h speed range which I will be whenever I ride in Spore, the bandit4 gives fantastic pull and it is a lot of fun.

The original handle bar + thigh grip the tank riding posture inspire cornering and the trelis frame and my pirellis sport demon tyres really make me rub the footpad, times to change footpad.

can;t wait to join Sporebikes.com on a 1 day trip outing to HW 3 with my Bandit 4.
