Am planning the Fraser trip for weekend of 23-25 June with the intention of taking Friday 23rd off. The plan is to ride to KL on Friday morning, stay the night in KL and on Saturday head up to Fraser via Ulu Yam. I will inform myself on hotels, but we can either stay Sat night in Fraser or we head back down to KL same day, the trip is only 70km one way, so return trip can easily be done in half a day if need be.

Can you inform the gang..

While I was at chatting with the sales guy at JR today, Eldo was seen secretly trying on a lady's jacket.

I quickly whipped out my trusty camera and took this shot.

After that sneak shot, we thought Eldo would dig a hole and hide in there. To our surprise, he turned around and posed for the camera, showing his feminie side. What a woman! :cheer:

Did my HRC mapping this morning. It was pretty quick once Dr MT got to it. More details when I see you guys. The Stink is dying to find out, I dun want to let him know, hehe.

Also it is possible to go back to the original setting if you decide to do so.

For those of you who doesn't know who the Stink is, he is our own version of the Stig, like in Top Gear.

Watch this and you'll know.

Probably to show somebody else

OK, here's the dyno graph.

The only mods on Bladerunner is a Racetech Titanium s/o and a BMC street filter and a fitch.

These figures are after HRC tuning. Before tuning was 160bhp. 2bhp gain. You guys can decide whether it's worth doing a HRC tuning or not. 2bhp may not sound like a lot, but the front does lift more easily and the bike does feel more powerful. I didn't know 2bhp is so noticeable. But when I had the s/o and air filter fixed, I couldn't feel that 3bhp gain.

I was observing the whole dyno run procedure. But I got distracted into a conversation when the HRC tuning was done. It was all so quick. I suspect this HRC tuning thing is just a loading of another map. Dirt, maybe when you do it, make sure no one distracts you. :cheeky:

Stock bike is about 156bhp to 157bhp.

The top speed on the dyno was rated at 269.97kph. According to MT, on the dyno, it's about 20kph slower. So in reality, it should be making about 290 kph. You do lose some top end with a s/o.

Using the 2nd link bridge stretch as a benchmark, with the BMC filter, my temp managed to touch 73 dc, usually around the range of 74dc to 75 dc. Without the BMC, it's usually around 75dc, occasionally dipping to 74dc.

The Ultra 5w 50 is a thick oil. It still feels so after 4500km on it. I reckon switching to 5w 40, there will be about 2bhp gain. Impex, any thoughts?

On the Ultra, the clunkiness is intermitten, it has been quite smooth for the pass 1000km. The oil still feels like it has plenty of life left in it. Without being too anal, I do think it's a good oil, it's really miles apart from the Extra. However, I am still guessing the 5W 40 will be more suitable.

A friend with a K5 came along tonight. I had a chance to play with him. He insisted the K5 was dynoed at 150bhp. This was done at Unity, which usually yields a lower figure. At Looi's, a K5 was dynoed at 161bhp.

We tried 4th gear roll on, Bladerunner beats the stock K5 by a wide margin. 6th gear roll on, was evenly matched.

Jumping from a Blade to a K5, it feels like jumping to a chopper, the seat was low and the handlebars feel high. But give the body a chance to get used to the riding position, I dare say the K5 has a more comfortable riding position. When my friend jumped onto the Blade, he felt terrified, the riding position felt high on the Blade, like you're thrown overboard. That was how I felt when I sat on a ZX10R. The Blade does have a more agressive riding position. The K5 does have a very soft and comfortable seat.

Here's a movie of Dr MT warming up the Blade in preparation for the dyno run. This is the bestest shot I can get, given the small little window behind a shut door.

http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=-2383447043395911379

Here's the actual dyno run. As Bladerunner gulps in all the air and creates a vacuum in the room, Dr MT "bows to pressure". :cheeky: A lesser being would have left the room bleeding in the nose, eyes and ears.

LD, Dr MT can speak English ok, dun pray pray.

There is a slight dip after 7000rpm on the graph. He said it's difficult to get rid, PCIII will not help.

To be exact, the hp gain after tuning is 1.52, torque gain is 0.42.

Looking at the graph closely, there are slight gains everywhere except for the 6000rpm to 7000rpm range.

Tashi, you'll definately gain HP with the Ultra 5W40. You might be right that your blade may be right at home with the 5W40, you know best after all. Recent experiences with 2 new 06 models (GSXR750 and R6) also made me rethink the traditional effect of viscosity and gearbox. I had the chance to zip around on an 06R6 for a few days. It seems that these new models do not suffer clunkiness with thin oils even when things get hot. Instead things get noticably stiffer with thicker oils and insufficient warmup. This is the complete opposite to my own 03 model.

I'm sure the Ultra 5W50 has plenty of life left at 4500km, additive/baseoil wise, it is made without compromise. It feels pretty much the same because it is extremely shear stable.

I don't think the Extra 15W50 is of a much poorer quality. The only real difference is that Ultra uses a more exotic polyolester that boost low temp flow and high temp resistance, plus a load of MoDTC for extreme pressure protection in race conditions. Other than that, it is very similar. Instead, the same shear stability is probably the issue. It was thick to start off and stayed thick unlike most 10W50 oils on the market. Those quickly shear down into the sweet spot and then thin past it to cause notchiness. You'll probably never reach that viscosity sweetspot with the Extra 15W50 in the blade, hence your poor experience. I am glad we managed to get to the root issue here thanks to your persistance, this is valuable information to all who wants to get the most out of their Blade.

LD, no, I didn't do a stock run. Just a before and after HRC tuning.

Again, I am suspecting this is not what everyone calls a HRC tuning. Tuning shouldn't be so quick. I think it's just loading of another map into the ECU.

Rumours sure spread around fast. Probably the word tuning got stuck in our heads when someone 1st told us it's tuning, and then we pass it on. Before you know it, everyone in SG must be thinking it's HRC tuning.

If anyone is going to see MT, be sure to "frisk" him.

Bro, base on what u mention.

could it be a PGM-FI reflash of Fuel map ?

since we know that in HRC web, there are CD with custom maps for sale for our 1k/600RR.

question is,if it original HRC setting MAPs then high chance those fuelling maps/settings/parameter would be cater for HRC original parts.(assume that those MAPs were meant for 1k/600RR that had fitted HRC parts & want a re-map).

if thats the case then,i reckon the maps may not suit us well.parameter differents like air temp, mod parts installed & petrol grade(jap RON100,SG-RON98).

Sorry, when I meant miles apart, I meant the feeling, not the quality. With so many hours of research you put in, I’m sure it’s a good oil like you said. If you’re passing by Suntec on the weekdays, could you drop by with 7 bottles of 5W 40 for my next experiment?

Hock, this is my initial suspicion. I am curious as hell to find out.

Would you or Impex or anyone here know how long it takes to do a custom map after the initial dyno run?

Knowing this will bring me 1 step closer to the truth.

Dirt, I think you better hold on 1st.

Currently..riding a CBR954RR wif a full system. Can anything be done to the ECU?? Just like wat U done to ur CBR1000RR?

You can hold on to Chilly's @$$. Heh.

Dewei, at this point, I dunno if MT had just loaded a generic map or he did a custom map for me.

As long as the socket for connecting to the ECU is the same as the 100RR, should be able to. You may want to check with MT and share your finding.

No PC was used.

base on ur comment.

i believe 90% that the HRC maps loaded were "tuned" in jap with HRC kits install on the same model.

if u recall, not too ling ago(yrs).there are special "RACE USE ONLY" Fuel maps cater for specific models only.and the "maps" comes in a self-loading device.

all the team racing mech need to do is connect & "load" the custom fuel maps into the track bike.

*Bike data were sent to the MFGer for "custom" tune pior to the "Map device" delivery.

*the thing i saw was a local dwn under race series.so not exactlly "WBK" or "AMA" standard but the bike was "sponsor" by the Brand MFGer.

in a nutshell,if the "so call" HRC Maps were loaded...then maybe some "items" have to "upgrade" or "on par" with the HRC kits...to have a better matching.

:cheeky:
