Is the helmet subjected to taxes again once it reaches SG shores? As in... will ICA impose another tax on top of what we have paid to the stores?

For medium sized items like these? Not that I heard of.

I guess the only tax payable is just the fact that this is like any other "mail" and that mail gets taxed too i guess?

If the cost of helmet (including shipping) is above SGD400, you will have to pay GST.

Having said that, more often than not, if the seller is not a shop, he will be agreeable to under-declare the price so that you can avoid the GST. However, should anything happen to your shipment, compensation will base on the declared value.

ask seller to label the package as gift ??? will it help ?

That's an old trick.

You can list it as gift, present, scrap, junk, whatever, your GST, if applicable, is still based on the declared value.

Honestly, I don't think new Arai helmets are cheaper outside of Singapore. If they are really cheaper, I will be very suspicious. And I don't advise in buying used helmet because the structure integrity could have been compromised.

No point to me.

You save perhaps $100-$200 by buying online, but you cant be sure whether have the helemt been subjected to any knocks before.

Any goes wrong, the max you can do is to probably post a negative comment on the seller's page. But that is not going to get your $$$ back.

Just buy from local store/s, anything wrong, you still got receipt and a physical entity to go back to.

Demon is right!

For your reading pleasure…

Why must I pay money to Postman? --- click me

Please take note, GST is calculated based on the CIF value of the goods. If you declared your item at S$380 and your postage to Singapore is S$30, S$380+S$30=S$410 then…. When Mr. Postman rings your doorbell, you have to pay him S$410 X 7% = S$28.70 in cash before Mr. Postman handed the parcel to you.

Share one of my experiences with you guys.

I ever had a big Kawasaki carton box full of parts sent from Japan and the carton box was detained by the Custom at Singapore Post Payar Lebar when it reached Singapore. The value declared was under S$400 CIF, apparently the value declared was not convincing.

I got a notice sent to me by post 2 days later informing me to bring along some form of proof on the price of the items in the carton box and present it at the Immigration and Custom counter at Singpost Payar Lebar.

I printed out all the emails and invoice from the seller and the officer there cross checked the document that I brought along with the performa invoice attached on the carton box before release it to me.

This is the only hiccup of my frequent oversea/internet purchase.
