Comparing against other developed countries, Singapore is actually considerably cheap to live in. Before you label me a PAP supporter or what, i'm actually not very happy with the current PAP. There's many issues that they can't solve yet. But i think they are trying. I haven't really seen much from WP as well, so if not PAP, then who else? Anyway, back to topic.

Other countries have a much higher tax rate than Singapore. Where we have the income tax and GST and misc other stuffs, it's definitely not reaching to 30%. Compare it with other developed countries like Aus, US, Britain, S Korea, Jap etc, you're looking at anywhere from 30%-60% tax rate. In US, they pay state tax AND federal tax.

Each country has it's pros and cons. Comparing medical costs, you compare ours with US, and u breathe a sigh of relief. As for vehicles, if no COE, then our traffic jams now will get worse. Maybe we park car at expressway and walk to work also faster. For housing, compare with Japan, Hong Kong, Taiwan, and other similarly land-scarce developed countries and we're about equal if not cheaper by a bit.

Nothing in this world created by humans is perfect. The trick is to find the balance that you are most comfortable with and live with it.

RIDE.

Well if you compare payscale then it makes more sense, I don't believe PAP is really trying because their strategy is short term at best.

Nothing is perfect but that's not gonna stop us from making things better, IMO the PAP needs some form of regulation.

Anyway, it bothers me that people don't actually like honesty, they prefer to be fed lies. Especially girls.

Well, there's no way they can focus on long term now, as the new breed of singaporeans are more savvy and demand instant results. Short term is the best they can do for now. But the short term issues are also those that are most pressing.

I do agree that things need to be more transparent. There's a lot that goes on behind the scenes that have an impact, but we are not let in on. I mean dun say the super sensitive things.

but what i cant understand , they value themselves so much and give their salary like so much and when you compare US president, it is really measly. maybe us president not so busy as ours then.

Why spend $30 Billion for the short term when it only costs $50 Billion for the long term permanently? The government is spending more on temporary things when they can spend slightly more for a permanent thing... Example: expansion of PIE/BKE exit. Instead of spending 2 billion to expand the exits, they could have spent 20billion to expand the whole expressway. Now they only expand the exits, it lessens congestion at the exits. But the road still narrows back into 3 lanes in the end. It just removes congestion from the exit and pushes the congestion towards the road narrowing part... -.- any difference? Still congested one way or another... Makes no difference whether they expand or not seriously...

Singapore roads will remain congested whether they have 5 lanes or 6 lanes. The fact that some roads can accomodate more, and some roads less, already dictates that there will be bottlenecks here and there. Take PIE/BKE, the cars going into BKE slow down cos need to filter out at BKE, thus causing jam on one lane of PIE, then you have people trying to cut queue and jam another lane, thus, PIE only left 2 lanes, another bottle neck, so cars will slow down and jam.

Expanding the exit allows for more cars to wait at the exit, thus shortening the 'queue'. But in the end, the bottleneck is still there. Expanding expressway itself is not a solution either. how much space does singapore have? and in the end, number of cars will increase somemore. so what's the point?

It probably is, considering 'you' as a factor.

Most folks dont have 'you' and most folks are not aware of how their situation can hurt since they arent prepared. The older generation is afterall the pioneers of the 'sheep' that was led and taken care of.

Nothing to say against tat. I admit i got lucky and decided to learn more about medical insurance. Also made e decision to bear e pain and part with e money for a insurance tat may never be claimed.

Did e same for my mum. :/ so when ever with fren ve such conversation will try to advise accordingly but some will ve e mentality tat it wont happen to me. :/

Last night was interesting.

I went to the Volunteer Organisation and found out that I am not on the list to be sent for a mandatory training and classification again.

And I know its a high level guy who was playing the dirty trick again.

So this time, I kinda acted up a stink, ready to put in a police report against the management team lah.

And of course, after all the posturing and talking loudly here and there.

The top man got my sms and talked to me, and of course granted my going to the training and classification.

I kinda really feel sorry for this top man. From 2004 with nearly 2000 members, and now reduced to 800 volunteers. This guy is now trying to salvage what went wrong so he wont be leaving with a bad name.

But seriously, with the kind of HR man as his third in command, its kinda difficult. This guy never served National Service. Much less been really concern or involved in HR work. And the semi official things he sprout out of his mouth that never comes with black and white except to sarbo a person in the back kinda style. Makes you wonder. This guy was a Manager and now a Director of a big company that distribute cleaning products. Its a very very well known and used in everyhousehold/business brand.

Its very disheartening to know, that this so called HR guy, cannot even get the facts straight about his team of less then 30 pax directly under his control/office. Supported by 4 full time and 6 part time fellas in this particular office. And he is technically supposed to be the HR guy overall in charge for the current island wide 800 volunteers?

Makes you wonder.......is the decline in volunteers truthfully only the top guy's fault? Or that the HR Man, who technically is cheif of the HR team lacking in his ability?

I stay at TPY hdb, my neighbours ride a haya and a zzr 14k. The haya is a bit older, but gen2. The owner doesn't cover the bike up. The zzr owner uses a bike cover to cover his bike. When i first got my bike, i was having a chat with my neighbour at the carpark, and he said the bikers who park there generally quite friendly and will keep a lookout for one another. He said that theft or other things not common. What is more common is kids naughty and scratch or something. I once caught a kid from 2nd floor unit facing the bike lots aiming his spit on the bikes. I highlighted to my neighbour to warn him, then he said "#^!@!, that kid again, come i go scold him with you"

LOL!

Also, i saw some of those foreign workers, sometimes during their lunch break they will go to the bikes, then get on it and pose while their friends take photo. Once, i was about to go out, when i saw 3 of them posing with my bike (cos only sports bike there, the other 2 bikes there at that time were kups). I just stood there and waited for them to take finish. They saw me, then was like sibeh paiseh like that, but i told them no problem, take finish first. Then they very happy and continue to pose for a while. Sibeh funny.

Well, in short, if you buy a beemer bike, the best protection is a bike cover lor. Kids won't touch cos lecih, and neither will foreign workers. Also, it protects from elements.

RIDE.

Haha ic. I got few precautionary steps in my mind right now. Ya, as wat u said to put cover (hopefully no one will steal the cover as mentioned in other thread) so no more eyecatching. Secondly i m thinking putting cctv at my window. U see, i'm staying at 2nd floor, so my window view has perfect view to the open space car park. Hmmm... Wat u think?

Not as safe as covered carparks with cameras.

Do it. :D

The bike lots in my neighbourhood carpark is like a smoking corner. Instead of smoking at the nearby residents corner they will just sit on anybody's bike to smoke and chat leaving the ashes ciggy butts soft drinks and saliva from spitting on the lots and even bikes after they are done. Some itchy hand will press this button and that and the gear lever. Basically its like a playground.

I think placing a cctv is a good preventive measure. It helps also to understand your area's people. If your area the bikers are friendly and helpful like my side de, then it's very safe. But if they are like Duo's, or they have serious case of green eye, then jialat liao... hahaha...

Problem with bike is that if it's not covered, then people will press here press there, touch this touch that. Especially if u getting S1000RR. LOL!

i agree on the friendliness of the bikers in the area. it plays a big part. for my area, mostly around me are ah peks riding phantom, kups and vespa. so they see sports bike, they dun care. and i nv seen any of the bikers talk to one another. funny area i live in. haha.

I've seen the S1000RR, there's alot of buttons to press. Trust me, cover it, you don't want some fcuking cat coming up to it and peeing on it.
