hmmmmm .. you need to aware of the sponge/foam quality and the thickness for ....

 

1: appropriate amount clean air need to suck in to the carb and engine

2: it must do the job or lack of clean air will not able to have your bike in good performance

3: if dirty air or lack of clean air entered the engine, it will bring more harm than good in long run.

4: will affect your fc

i haven clean my protec filter since day one

maybe when i install my carspeed coil then take the filter out to clean also since need to open both side covers anyway...

 

hahahah .. at autobacs I tried the KNN demo machine .. see the difference between standard sponge/foam filter and KNN material (cloth wif wire filament) ... using a ping ball to float at the highest peak to test ... same chamber and fan .. the ping ball in the tubing from KNN reach to the top but the normal standard one just float in the mid level .... hehehehehhe

 

Maintanace wise ...

 

think can opt for the KNN or BMC or DNA or alike cleaning kit for our protec AF to have the cloth and wire filament last longer.

Owning a K&N; Care and Maintenance: Cleaning a K&N is very simple. For cleaning there are no kilometer intervals. But in general, the company recommends cleaning the filters every 40,000 kms, cleaning is also advised based on visual inspection. Every K&N has a cotton mesh as well as wire mesh. As per company recommendation, if the wire mesh is not visible then is the time for cleaning. The company also provides special cleaning kit which includes a cleaning solution (solvent) and an oil. Any other oil is not recommended for K&N and the same goes for cleaning liquids or agents.

 

Here is the procedure of cleaning the filter.

 

Step 1. Remove the filter from carburettor or air box.

Step 2. Spray the given solution on filter surface from inner side and outer side.

Step 3. Keep the filter untouched till maximum 10 minutes.

Step 4. Wash the filter in plain water without pressure. (Small quantity of Liquid Soap is permissible for washing, then apply plain regular water to clean and remove the soapy water)

Step 5. If there is any dirt remaining on the filter body then repeat the step 2.

Step 6. After washing the filter in the water keep the filter for drying. Natural drying is advisable for K&N filters to avoid the damages. (Do not use compressed air, that will damage the cotton mesh)

Step 7. Before applying oil, make sure the filter is completely dry. After drying the filter, apply the given K&N oil on outer surface. Do not use the oil from inner side.

Step 8. Refit the filter.

Haha, thanks MJ bro, I was just kidding. BTW is there any way to remove the oil from the sponge/foam? Can I wash the sponge/foam in tub with soap water and then dry it and use it temporarily until I find a replacement for the filter, I want to then just monitor if more Eo is going into the air filter

i also cut out the sg customs part

think that maybe if i record in lower resolution might be better(the day is lower quality than the night vid)

maybe is cause i adjust the cam slightly higher in the night vid so a lot of vibration from the wind

also while riding i tried to record at higher speeds (tried to 90km/h before is ok, today tried to 100+km/h...)my cam suddenly stopped recording and cannot on at ard 97-98km/h

open the battery cover and adjusted the battery then can work liao

so i think is the vibration cause the battery to come loose and lost contact

planning to add something to inside the battery compartment to hold the battery firmly in place

Hi Guys,

 

Today 1st time in my life I opened the air filter of my bike. I was shocked to see oil in the filter. Mine is P180 Ug2. Is this normal? I never thought oil is applied to air filter.

May be these pics will help you. You can see the dark oil mark in the lower half of the sponge. What type of filter is this?

Bro happen to me b4 its engine oil from crankcase... It happen if too much or sudden breaking it will come out one... Can just wash with soap and air dry b4 puting it back... Or use like mine open port air filter or use knn air filters... Our ug2 air box is friendly to plug and play... Need lil mod here and there... Btw better clean it b4 it worse... Once its dirty the performance is bad... Realy!!

as long as the detergent is friendly user on your AF material ... (that I'm not very sure which chemical detergent is friendly) hehehe

or

you can use your patrol to soak and clean the oil residue ... then clean and dry .. that's how they did at UM ... soak using your own patrol .. they clean and blow dry the foam before putting back if the condition is still ok to use... so

 

if you don't want to get your hands dirty or dirty your toilet or your carpark ... then just go to UM and ask them to do it for you during your servicing period ...

 

 

me I will do it during my bike wash period since I've bought the DNA AF cleaning kit but that too when I'm not lazy lah ... hehehe

 

methods the same as I posted for the KNN cleaning kit!! ..... sprayed the chemical, wait few minutes , rinse, air dry it, apply a thin layer of the AF oil on the back surface and installed back.... Done!! .. hehehee

Bro check engine oil with your dipstick... Mine that time the um mech just wash with soap and then blow dry it...

That one for stock lah.. Now got open port.. For open port just air clean it... I just borrow their air gun and blow" from the inside out... Just blow until u feel satisfied of cleaning it... No need oil or anything...

its not normal n it means something is wrong.

1) u top up too much eo that it got suck into ur intake

2) ur valve is faulty

 

if u dont find the cause n fix it, u need to do a lot of maintainence. cleaning the sponge often and topping up eo more often if the valve is faulty.

 

edit: i dont know how to look, but if it's coming from engine, then u got major problem.

I just called up LAB, they got Air Filter for Bajaj. Haha Can you believe it?

But not sure whether they have UG2 or UG3. Anyways I will be going there to change spark plugs today at 5 pm, so will check it out.

 

Can somebody share with me, how different the UG2 and UG3 stock filter looks? I mean can I just see and make out the difference or not?

hmmmm ... I'm not sure of your open port manual but normally open port or any AF with wire filament,

it's NOT encourage to use air gun to blow cos the high pressure can spoilt the wire filament!

 

For fabric AF using AF oil on the outside layer is to protec not only the material and the wire but it's function is also to filter better to have more cleaner air into the engine!

 

I've seen a a rider UG2 pulsar not using any air filter before ... said lazy to clean the air filter .. sound good .. engine more power .. !!@@?? ...

then one day I saw his bike at UM undergo major overhauling with lots of problematic engine failure!! ..

 

anyway who am I lah ... his bike what .. right? ....... hehehehe

cant wait 4 TF 3. when i pause at a certain scene on d trailer, i saw huge dinosaur like bot behind a tall building. could it be a dinobot? or tripticon? not sure. un4tunately, d transformers series ended up until Cybertron series. the new animated series made optimus look like batman animated. i wana puke now. uueeekkk!!

Last time my bike eo level used to reduce automatically, so I used to top up on my own. Another reason could be that last time during EO change the mechanic didnt wait untill old EO drain out completely. So some EO might have been remaining in it :(

I am going to Ah boy tomorrow to change spark plugs. I called them up. Price is 4$ per plug. UM charges 6$ I guess. UM far away, somemore.

 

I will also look at some Handle Grips at Ah boy and if I like will change there itself.
