Haha unfortunately i've never seen my mechs change spark plugs or drain engine oil in front of my eyes before even when i send my car for servicing. i guess its just down to the trust system. But i can still go around to other shops to change my s. plugs right? How much would it cost with labour?

I don't really know what plugs are good for bikes, i only know i've been using denso iridium plugs for my cars all the way.

your problems are the norm rather than the exception; the engine is too cold to sustain itself and can't warm itself up, it needs us to bring it its coffee (read: rev) for about 30-45s for new bikes before it idles steady. the second problem is a result of moving off before the engine is fully warmed up; post-warm up, the problem will be encounted a lot less. nothing else that can be done i think.

 

Erm, mine's a 2nd hand model, so its still ok to rev for 30secs? Rev to how many RPMs?

before i got the bike UM did a routine servicing for me (even showed me the work order done by the mechanics) which should include the usual changing of spark plugs, engine oil etc.

 

Haha didnt know our bikes had so much character. Another issue to accept with the pulsar. So far i'm quite happy with it, though as a male you always tend to yearn for more power.

 

sounds like ur clutch plate is sticking together.

try tuning the clutch cable.

I used d trust system wen servicing my dads car. but bike is diff 4 me. u hav 2 watch wat d mechs do to ur bike. ive got a bad history with my shop owner. he said empty promises to me wen i bot my first bike. dun wan to type it. too long. splug n engine oil u can get it anywhere, cheap depending on how u use it. i changed 2 x $5 splugs last month. still gd condition nw. engine oil can change to mineral $10 bucks. so overrall i spend $20 evry month on dis things. better still, i changed it at jb.

recommended change for spark plug is 10,000km. dun have to change so often lah.. change liao performance also the same. spark plugs are meant to self-clean when engine runs.

 

engine oil is $1 per litre at UM, using Mobil 4T engine oil. also dun have to change so often.. can service at SH motors in AGL JB, its slightly cheaper.. about S$1 less per bottle inclusive of labour. i aim to change EO every 2500 - 3000km.

not to worry bro. my pulsar will serve me another 3-6 more months. so not changing new stuffs unless wear and tear. hehe..

 

 

so after 2 weeks of ownership of my p180 UG3 heres a couple of minor niggles i've encountered

 

1) in the morning or after parking my bike for over 6-7hours; i start my bike and the engine will die a couple of times. Not sure why, but i think its got to do with the carb settings. I;ve never ouched the carb before.

 

2) on 1st gear while moving off the engine will cut off sometimes; trust me i'm not that lousy in half-clutch. I think theres a technique for this bike, you can't really do a minimum throttle while releasing the clutch. Usually to prevent the bike from stalling/engine cut off i have to throttle a little bit more and then release the clutch. It just gets frustrating when the bike stalls/engine cuts off because it can be embarassing sometimes.

 

So anyone got any remedies for my problems? Or should i just go back to UM. They gave me a 1 month warranty (written in the sales agreement).

 

u gotta warm it up first in the morning. actually, 1 and 2 might be related. what's your idling rpm? if you're not used to it, you can try set your idling rpm to perhaps 1.2k rpm. normal for 4-strokers.

I do warm up in the morning and after work before going home especially when my bike has been parked for more than 6 hours exposed to rain and sunshine. Its like a good opportunity and "excuse" for me to light up my ciggarettes. i usually tak 6-9 minutes to finish one stick.

 

My idle RPM is around 1.2K to 1.4K which according to most of my biker friends is normal.

 

Anyway so far i've followed some of the advices given by the forummer here like revving the bike a little (up to 4K RPM) for a good 10-20secs.

yay!! im so happy 2day. wanna know y? not only 2day is friday, but i broke my record. previous threads i mention dat i topup caltex 97 in jb full tank which last me around 450km den wen 2 resrve right. well, last week thursday night, i went to jb, topup SHELL V POWER full tank, set my mileage 2 0 n did a 'test run'. dis morning after i parked my bike at work, saw my mileage. 2 my surprise, it reached 520km n it hasnt reach reserve yet!! which means, ive only used 12litres!! wow!! ders a 70km diff!! im gonna whack my bike to UM after work 2day. wanna clean my carb n check my mileage again. i luv bajaj!! if only der was bajaj 1000cc...... haiizzz....

Finally i'm free to go down to UM tomorrow to check on my fuel meter. Living on the edge everytime i see my Reserve light switched on even though my mileage is 245km. A Lamborghini can get better mileage than that hahahahaha.

for me Bajaj 400cc i happy liao... if bajaj 400cc give a mileage of 35km/litre. i happy liao..
