Bro MJ I wanna see your bike !!! Looks really great on the pictures, congratulations on the awakening of Splitfire (I love the name!), it looks super cool !

Despite the explanations, I haven't understood what exactly is the rear hugger, maybe someone can post a pic with a caption or MJ you can add an arrow on your photos to point the hugger out ?

 

Anyway, your customizations make me wanna spend money too on the bike's look but I'm too afraid to do something wrong so I'm taking my time. Plus it only has 500km so far so I'm taking it slowly

 

Gaban, I would love to join for the Batam trip, but i can't travel above 65/70 km/h yet.

But if you are keen to delaying this another couple of week, I will be able to join, and hey, maybe we can make it the May BTMO !!

1. Rear box and bracket to fit 2 helmets: Can I go to any shop to get this done? Is the bracket for pulsar commonly available or do I need to go to Universal only? If I can go to other shop which shop is recommended for low prices or is it better to go to JB?

 

2. I also need tyres for both front and rear. I wont the stock sizes. Which tyres are recommended and not very expensive. Where to buy? Do we get pulsar tyres in JB? Are they cheaper there?

 

3. Helmets, Again cheaper in JB? Or where else? I just need basic around 50$

No you don't

You need a full face helmet

I suppose if you need 2 helmets, you probably have a pillion who rides with you regularly. Now you might not care about yourself much, but I'm sure if you pillion someone, that person is dear to you Wouldn't you want the best protection for him/her ? Did you know that 35% of the head injuries in a motorbike crash are on the jaw/mouth area ?

This was recently passed on to me by a fellow instructor at the Vancouver Island Safety Council. Very infromative!

 

Interesting diagram shows the impact areas on crash-involved motorcycle helmets. (Source: Dietmar Otte, Medizinische Hochschule Hannover, Abteilung Verkehrsunfallforschung, Germany.)

 

Note that 35% of all crashes showed major impact on the chin-bar area. This means that if you ride with an open-face helmet, you are accepting only 65% of the protection that could be available to your head.

 

 

If people ride with a shorty or half helmet, they are accepting only 39% of the protection they could obtain. They are literally throwing away 61% of the protection they would have had had they chosen a full-face helmet.

Financial reasons for choosing a "simple" helmet are perfectly valid and understandable. But this is where you want to ask yourself a very simple question: "Should I buy a $150 full face helmet or risk eating through a straw my entire life or even worse? Is that worth $100 economy ?"

 

All of us ride for the passion of it. We ride because we love it (and yes, because thanks to our Pulsars, it's cheap !). But if we decide to ride, we have to be responsible about it and protect ourselves, and most importantly those we pillion.

 

it's when I saw the above diagram that I made my mind on the type of helmet I wanted. More expensive, hot, not practical to talk, all theses reasons became to me excuses that couldn't balance the major reason why having a full face helmet is essential: Staying safe, not hurting myself or my pillion, and of course, continue riding for many many years !

 

I hope this doesn't come across as anything but a fellow rider who cares about safety (ok, who's nuts about safety...:cheeky:)
