Hi guys,

I just went and changed my engine oil. I took the oil with me. 1st shop I went behind safra, he quoted 5$ just to change the oil:faint:. Then second shop changed it for me for 2$. He had lots of Vespas in the shop. He also quoted me 5$ for changing my rear brake shoes. Brake shoes will be provided by me. I am now wondering whether I should get my front and rear brake pads/shoes changed from this shop or JB will be cheaper. What do you guys think?

I have now measured the oil level, you dont need to screw in the dip stick you just need to dip it in and take it out and it should be in b/w the min and max. Looks like my engine is indeed drinking oil. I will just monitor it closely and change it every 2k kms I think it should be ok even though the oil level goes below the min level as long you can see some oil touching the bottom of the stick.

BTW, I wanted to ask what does clutch slipping exactly mean? Sometime when I change from a low to higher gear, the gear doesnt get fully engaged and if I accelerate it makes a loud noise and vehicle doesnt move forward as if it is in neutral. I then have to kick the gear again and then it engages properly and vehicle moves. Is this called clutch slipping? This happens rarely maybe once every week or something.

y nt go to UM?

change oil is free if you bring your own EO

maybe also do the $6 servicing where they will do a basic check on your bike

in theory engine should not drink oil

the oil is there to lubricate your moving parts and help in the cooling of your engine(P200)

do monitor if there is any leak anywhere at your engine area

Didn't expect anyone to have seen my bike's new look yet Orleng ! Damn it !

I'm posting one picture only, as my bike was purposefully left unwashed because I knew it would be getting a lot done on it today at the shop so I didn't wash it and it's very dirty. Once I wash it, more pictures will be posted.

Because of the paint done to the wheels, I have to wait 2-3 days before I can wash it again.

Meanwhile, here's a picture of the rim sprayed gold, the Sinnob sprocket, and the new gold chain (same specs as the Sinnob one, only gold and black).

UM did a great job overall, I'm very happy with the result ! There are some places where there's like marks or glitches in the spraying - it's not a big deal, I'm sure they can find a way to fix it when I go back. On top of the below, they also sprayed my foot rest assembly part in black, and it's just perfect. I can't wait to paint the other parts - I don't want anything left white or silver !

This below is my personal knowledge and might not be entirely correct, so pelase do take it with a pinch of salt. Also, if I'm wrong, do feel free to make corrections. I'm learning still. :)

Exactly spot on. Intake / Exhaust characteristics are engineered during the design stage and refined during the experimental stage to equip each bike with usable power/torque at different ranges.

Length of exhaust header / curvature / shape of expansion chamber, together with airbox shape / intake stack length & curvature (in 2/2A bikes), all combine to deliver optimal performance at a certain RPM range.

The exhaust valve is actually open together with the intake valve for a short period of time, otherwise known as valve overlap. During this period (expressed in degrees of rotation), exhaust gases are still evacuating the chamber while fuel/air is coming in the intake valve.

Freeflow pipes *may* lead to lean conditions on a stock setup, especially if the bike isn't equipped with ECU and lambda sensor to automatically adjust fuel delivery. Lean conditions *may* cause exhaust valves to burn.

Freeflow pipes of too large a diameter can lead to reduced exhaust gas velocity. Lower velocity = less "pull" (scavenging) of the exhaust gases from the exhaust valve. Can rob power lower down in the RPM range.

Freeflow pipes of a smaller diameter can lead to lowered peak torque range, e.g. peak torque at 3-4k rpm, vs 5-6k rpm stock (just example), but will sacrifice high end power.

Oh yea, as for exhausTEC chamber, spoke to jacky once. He mentioned that for all the rattling and bits n pieces, removing it will reduce the frequency that bits get stuck inside. Also, will LOOSE the 1bhp. I think UG1 doesn't have it and has 1 less bhp compared to UG2 and above.

Feel free to discuss! Currently reading up Modern Motorcycle Technology by Massimo Clarke. Damned interesting and helpful read.

Also, some interesting links.

http://www.thumpertalk.com/forum/showthread.php?t=659727

http://www.uucmotorwerks.com/html_product/sue462/backpressuretorquemyth.htm

To sum it up. Backpressure is necessary for some stock setups, especially those unable to compensate for freeflow conditions.

about ur last point on the exhaustec, i read somewhere on teamxbhp about the old puslar models without exhaustec, that when fitted with the newer exhasutec exhaust(lol), experienced slight performance gain. cant remember the link sorry.

i get this feeling when changing gears from 4th to 5th. like there is a neutral in between them, and if nv kick up properly the gear will drop down back to 4th and rev up.

This phenomena is called False Neutral. It's when the gear dogs don't engage properly while shifting and the lower gear has disengaged. Everything is now spinning with sub-mm clearance from one another, instead of being engaged.

It can happen for all sorts of reasons, mechanical and rider based. Bent shift forks, mis-adjusted shift linkage, limp rider foot :D.

Kick hard! Also, if it does happen, clutch in immediately, wait for the revs to settle, or kick up. Always shift up and not down. Less likely to cause expensive damage.

Smile! Tomorrow will be worse.

Thanks Orleng! I was thinking false neutral is something totally different. Sometimes when I try to shift to neutral it shows the green light for neutral but when I leave the clutch the engine switches off, because although the green light for neutral turns on, in reality it is in either 1st or 2nd gear.

I used to ride Pulsar 150 back in India, it had all 5 gears down so never had this problem. Just keep kicking up fully until neutral.Initially I used to get so confused riding P180 because P150 you need to kick down to change to higher gear whereas it is opposite for P180.:)

I think you can only tell the color when you see the rims - when I first saw them, i thought it was a bit toned down, not metallic enough too. Then by the time i got home, they looked to me different and come to think of it, if too metallic it becomes too gold, a bit like fake gold. This is a Metallic Gold spray can, and I think by metallic they mean the reflection it gives a bit like a metallic surface.

So if you want another type of Gold, I think there's no escaping buying a can and trying it on a surface to see for yourself. People say you must find the right color code, but I've done some paint shops this WE and even with the right color code, if they don't carry it you're not going anywhere - so basically you sort of have to do with what's on the market, unless you want to look for the right color code online..

Well, depends how old it is, if there are any installments left to pay, what condition it is in.. There is no valuable info on his ad.

But bear in mind that in general Pulsars loose their value quickly compared to their original brand new price, so not so surprising if on top of that this is a 2nd/3rd hand bike with maybe a huge mileage.

Lube your chain regularly mate? Not old enough to warrant replacement?

Kinks can be caused by a variety of reasons. One is ,well, lack of lube. O-ring breaks off, link wears fast, binds up cuz lube is lost.

Another is misalingment of sprocket/rear wheel. Causes one side of the chain to exert more pressure than the other. May cause kinks.

Easiest is to lube n see if that helps. If not, check if it's almost end of life. Pull straight backwards on the chain right at the rear part of the rear sprocket. If you can expose 1/2 or more of the teeth's length, it's time to replace the chain.

Remember, a kinked chain robs you of power.

Smile! Tomorrow will be worse.
