About the tow truck no, oren has one and shes the one who called him. He came all the way from sg with his wife, collect the bike and tow all the way back to sg. We’ve seen it ourselves. Very reliable indeed.

We called Shankar for the towing. He came all the way from Singapore and sent Harmonia and his bike to UM and I assume after that sent Harmonia to the hospital (?).

He's a great guy seriously.. he's a rider himself, and has the biker brotherhood attitude. And I thought he gave us an extremely fair price , same when I called him the first time to tow my bike because the battery died, he quoted me a very reasonable price.

His number is : 9061 9948

(Alvin, you're the one who gave me his number so that saved us!)

I'm thinking once Harmonia feels better maybe we can invite Shanker for a meal or something - regardless of the money we paid for the towing, the effort to come to our rescue was really nice of him..

No Fish> ... your batt dry cell or wet? .. if wet you can try this method. Buy batt water (not rain or other water lah). Remove the batt from your bike, remove the lid cover and throw out all the stock water out. Leave a couple of minutes to dry and fill up with new batt water in the battery. Do not close the lid yet, leave it open for 1 hour. After 1 hour close the lid and install back on your bike and give a start. Once the engine start, leave it for idle run to recharge fully. You will be surprised with the outcome as me hahahahahaha!! I learn this tip from an uncle older than me during my visit at UM, he has been using the stock battery for 4 years since riding his pulsar 180.

But if your batt now is dry cell hmmmmmm since O'Ren has offered, just call her lah and she will bring down her batt charger ....heheheheheh

fircyber > .... O'Ren has learnt all that from her hard ways heheheheehehehe ... the more you encountered problems or mistakes , the more you will learn hehehehehehe ... BUT do not keep making silly mistakes lah hahahahahahaha

Battery water can get from any workshop or pump station ... i think around $2.00 a bottle.

Wet batt normall have indication marker min and max for you to check the water level in the batt

Dry cell has no indicator water level marker and basicaly at UM, they used the green color package.

Well, after riding, 13.8 is a good average. Usually on a brand new battery it goes up to 14 or 14.1 so you're not that far after 3min of idling, that's a good sign.

I have a brand new battery changed it a couple of eks ack, when I start the bike in the morning after 12h of cold night parking, the voltmeter show 10.8, 11.8 then starts stabilizing at 12V. After a few minutes, it hits 13V too and when i ride for a few minutes I get to 14v.

I think MJ's idea is a good idea, you should try it. To know if the batry is wet or not, very simple, take it out and see if it has "water" in it :D Youcan see the water level in the side of the battery or shake it gently to feel it. Or take out the rubber lid and take a peek! I think you can find battery water in any motor shop, just make sure it's for a 12V battery.

I have a battery charger cause like MJ said I had the issue: came back from holidays and my bike wouldn't start. Recharged it to be able to start the bike, but a week later it died again. At the end, since the bike is still under warranty I took it back to UM and got a new stock battery.

A guide .... read the link for more info ... http://www.totalmotorcycle.com/maintenance/battery.htm

http://www.totalmotorcycle.com/maintenance/photos/BatteryChart.gif

Note:

Battery water can be very corrosive to metal parts and paint. If there's a leakage, you will notice a white powderish foam around the corroded area!! Reason why at UM, they will ask you to change for dry cell.

But sad to say also, no doubt dry cell is call "dry" but there is actually water inside the battery. The only thing good about dry cell batt is you no need to keep topping up the water level. The bad thing is that it wont last as long as wet battery. I too learnt the hard way ... hehehe . For nothing in 4 mths my dry battery bought at UM leaked and no warranty for dry cell battery cos the battery is not from Bajaj India! .... I've to pay for the new battery!!!!!!!

The voltage tells you it's the battery, not the starter. The starter can't do anything with such a low voltage. I am not familiar with mechanic starter as I'm riding a P2oo so electrical starter...

Maybe you want to change your starting habits by giving your bike at least 2min idle time before riding off. Especially after a long stay off. This helps not only the battery to be charged a bit, but also the engine to warm, the oil to warm and get everywhere it needs to go. Me on top of this, my first 2-3 roads/lanes or 5 min of ride, I only ride at 40km/h max. If I can do it, but in my neighborhood it's easy. If you really have to ride off to the highway or busy-fast pace roads, then I suggest you give the bike more idle time to warm up. This is all in order to take care of the engine and the bike. Ultimately yes the bike can start on cold and you can throttle it to the max right away - but it's best to give it some idle time.

Anyway, you need time to put on the gear : I start the bike then put on helmet gloves jacket etc, and I check my tires + mirrors + signal lights (all of them, including brakes). If I pick the bike up after a long stay (in the morning for example) then I check the oil level (bike on main stand).

This is just a good habit to have with any bike, and it really only takes a few minutes of your time and you're ensured to properly take care of the bike and have a safer ride

can't say with precisel lah cos....

my bike happens once after using for 1 year plus died out of sudden.

I posted here before to share but in summary for you after trying what ever I know, the bike still cannot start. So towed back to UM and they took 1 and half day to rectify my bike main problems.

Looking at the list of items plug in and plug out cost reaching $300 plus after they stripped my bike to rectify the problems makes my heart pain but thank goodness God's will, my problems solved with just to pay labour cost for rewiring all the connectors and a new set of dry cell battery. This is the dry cell that I mentioned earliear last for only 4 months caused of leakage for no reasons ...

I try to do the same, but if I just start the bike and leave it without throttling the engine dies on its own in about about 20-30 secs. So I need to keep throttling while idleing. May be my battery voltage is too low :(

hmm..

11.7v is still ok

normally when i start in the morning after a cold night my voltage is 12.5v

if it is a wet cell batt

besides getting the battery water

you can check your battery water level 1st

might just be battery water too low

take a torch and shine at your battery see if the level is in between the low and high mark

even if this is brandon's batt i think should be still working ok since his bike is not that old also

if batt water low top it up and try starting

then after that then try changing the batt water when you at home

leaving your bike to warm up for about 1 min is good for your bike

like what o'ren said to let the engind warm up and to let your EO move around to the parts in your engine to lube it

but then 11.7v our bike should be able to start

when you press the start what is the sound like?

Yeah me too when it's very cold or when too long without starting it, so I think it's normal and not the battery. I throttle a few seconds until I can hear the engine adequate purr :cheeky:

might be just cold start

when you start hold your throttle lightly for about 10-20 sec

then your bike should be able to mantain engine running

or you can pull choke to start the bike

let the bike run for about 10-20 sec then close your choke

that means ur idle is too low, nothing to do with battery, just adjust ur idle dial below ur tank. when starting from cold, try to adjust it to 1, then it wont die out. if ur engine is old like mine, it needs a choke every morning.

Accident can happen anytime, anywhere.

However ask yourself, do you want to fall at 120km/h or 60km/h?
