Hi all. Total noob here. Hoping to get a scram/trail bike once I pass my 2b. Would want to go for long distance riding but am not sure if 2b bikes can handle that with most of them being air cooled (but I've seen kups travelling down NS highway man) Can anyone advise? Plannin to get either xr 125/200 or DR200. At least can go KL. If not boh bian wait for 2A or 2 licence..

The XR200, and DR200 are very capable touring bikes.

I know of people who rode their DR200 to Phuket, and the XR200 to Laos.

With the NSH, it doesn't take much of a bike to reach KL.

Read up on the "Varadero 125" in this section, they go in packs to Thailand, and frequently go on road tour clocking 500-600km a day.

hi,sops! not problem with touring s long a u have change the final drive ratio on the bike. i have been round m'sia on a xl 200,air cooled bike with out any problems at all. the best part is dat u can go off n explore unique places! but always make sure dat yr bike is in top notch condition b4 yr trip.

Before the NSHW, I rode my scooter up to Penang by trunk roads. It only 125cc and max speed is about 90km/hr only.

Travelling speed of about 70km/hr may be slow but you will make it there, no problem at all. With pillion too.

Touring is about enjoying the ride, view and not how fast you want to reach the place.

i agree with u! touring by trunk roads is the way 2 go! u see more n have more good food than those found at the rest stops on the hi way!

I met a fellow rider fr sgp at phuket; thailand, for the Phuket Bike week last month.

He rode a honda wave plate FW****, all e way fr sgp.

so, just as long as you know how to maintain your bike, like engine oil etc, nothing is impossible...

Ive also come across our older generations of sg bikers ethusiast, who had rode a vespa all e way to thailand too... and it seems common and unsuprising among their generation.....

so dont worry abt watever bike tat u intent to take up.

learn to maintain and take care of the bike...

and most importantly enjoy the ride!

It is a very mean and nasty place and it will beat you to your knees and keep you there permanently if you let it. You, me, or nobody is gonna hit as hard as life. But it ain't how hard you hit; it's about how hard you can get hit, and keep moving forward. How much you can take, and keep moving forward. That's how winning is done. Now, if you know what you're worth, then go out and get what you're worth. But you gotta be willing to take the hit, and not pointing fingers saying you ain't where you are because of him, or her, or anybody. Cowards do that!"

any bike can do it .

it is not the bike but the rider ... :o

Always ride safely and defensively.

Repair body expensive and slow.

Thanks so much for the inspiring words guys! ;) Will definitely give it a go sometime soon. Yeah, trunk roads are more fun! More places to explore. Would want to try the trail towards Jerangkang waterfall in Pahang (super bumpy, with some steep slopes and a small creek. Went there aboard a 4x4 and it took me and my friends about an hour from the main road. Nice camping site there!)

Anyway, another question. How often do I need to 'rest' the bike to prevent it from overheating? If the bike has no overheating indicator, how would I know when to give the engine a rest? Got lots to learn about the important points before I start..

hi,sops!

way 2 go,guy! answer 2 yr question abt overheating! s long s the bike is comfortable n u don feel a power lost. yr ride time should be between 4 - 6 hrs. (inclusive pee breaks, smoke breaks n drinks) most important is 2 check yr engine oil every morning b4 u ride. and lube yr chain every evening when u stopped.

jerangkang waterfall!!! wow, haven't heard of dat name since 1981! they have a camp site now! had a nice wash/swim there on my way to tasik cini on a honda xl 200.

is the orang asli settlement still there?

That the adventure spirit. Any bike can make it but always the rider can't make it.....hahaahah.....

Well said.....

On the highway and some rural terrain, I'd recommend the 200ccs over the 125ccs though. :D

Friend of mine rode his Vara 125 up KL with pillion.

yeah bro tts totally possible. the last trip i did was to cameron highlands n trengganu, 1 of the riders brought his gf along as a pillon. he even went off road through the trails at one of the taman negara with the pillon. the vara is a very reliable bike. not very fast but very comfortable for touring.:)
