Acrylic shop to fix signal light

Hi, my signal light got smashed, thot of using acrylic to replace, but can't find any acrylic or plastic shop around town, anyone can recommend? I can't find replacement cos its a custom design signal lights. Thanks.

Actually, just need to bend the plastic part, but donno which shop has the heating equipment, i remember doing it in technical class last time, but now no access to it....

If you can't find any shops that does that, you can try using hot air gun.

 

Last time I tried using hair dryer, can be done but takes a long time for a small piece of acrylic.

 

what is the thickness of the acrylic that you are trying to bend?

 

If it is just a very small piece that is not very thick, you can just soften it over the stove and bend using a diy jig.

 

Gotta use your imagination for these kind of stuff.

but dun heat it directly over the flame cos it'll form bubbles. u wldnt want tt on clear acrylic.. best to use an oven on low heat with a clear window(toaster oven?) so u can check on it like every minute.

I was told pouring boiling water on thin acrylic will soften it to some degree, you might want to give it a try.

arcylic sheet, less than 3mm, is easy to work on.

 

For bending, you would need a heat-gun, hair-dryer would have enough heat to soften 1mm sheet, any thicker, it wouldn't work.

 

Edges can be rounded with a file or using a Dremel.

 

If you can include some pics of the signal light, you can probably receive more specific advices.

Looks easy enough. Hopefully the inside surface is not undulating.

 

1mm acrylic sheet will do. Just soften the acrylic sheet and fit it in.

 

Use a piece of transparency or vanguard sheet, cut to size for trial fitting, and serve as a template for the acrylic sheet.
