i've been considering if i should get a 2b bike for normal transport...

-studying at NYP

-workplace is 3-4km from home.

-live around hougang mall.

-not a racer wannabe so not interested to mod here and there

-go gai gai wif frens is take public coz large group

-abit no lifer so dun go out often

-dun sugggest pls(ok i know its a good tb but i just have something against scooters... not that its not cool... its just like y some ppl dun like big boobs)

-bike old nvr mind... can work can liao..

-2nd hand bike wif short coe is ok since only wan it for poly

-so basically only want to ride to skool and work.

i earn around 500bucks mthly and after bills and general expenses i left around 420 bucks left for my survival. if i buy bus concession it will cost near $60 mthly.

although theres str8 bus to skool, i've been lacking sleep and study time due to my working hrs and time spend on waiting for bus... and if i get bus concession i cant take MRT which is the main transport when go gai gai wif frens. really thinking of bike coz i reach home near midnite after work (tanks to the long bus waiting time)and the next morning lecture starts 8am.. too tired to even concentrate on studies..

the question is,

1) how much can i buy a cbr125 or krr150 for? (no need too long coe).

2) is my budget enuff for me to maintain a fully paid cbr 125 or krr 150?(i dun smoke, club, or always buy branded)

serious abt this so hope can get some advice... it will affect my decision on whether to get a bike or not.

many thanks in advance..

With that budet and seems like you won't need to use the bike much, I'll say $420 is more then enough to support a 2b bike, unless you're paying by installments for your bike. Most ideal is to full cash it so that you won't have to worry so much about your finances every month.

If you're looking at second hand CBR or KRR, it would probably cost less then $3,000 including your insurance. Of course these are just rough estimates and it ranges according to the condition of the bike. Insurance is very expensive nowadays.

Cheers and hope to see you on the road soon!

My view is do not purchase a bike.

I was once in your position when I was your age.

Study and own a bike = xin gu

There are many hidden costs which you cannot calculate till the bike is under your name.

Yeah man, last time i thought owning a bike is juz ride then petrol and monthly oil change etc. Then once you get into an accident and see the hidden cost man. Power pack de.. So consider more before buying the bike.

nothing wrong with having a license.

you can support a bike and its following servicing.

CBR125? that little bike that pretends to be bigger? umm, id advise against it.

Go ask around your friends. im sure than there are some people who are still holding on to their 2b bikes after they upgraded for a variety of reasons. ask whether you can try out their bikes for a while before deciding whether or not you would want to purchase it.

I know it is tempting to get a bike for time reasons but my opinion, you should save the extra cash and not get a bike, yet.

Not when your workplace and school isn't too far in the first place. And what do you mean when you say that if go out with frens u can't take MRT because you don't have concession for it? That extra cash you save can be used to buy the normal MRT tickets mah.

Perhaps the more appealing alternative is to get a reasonably cheap, reliable bike (RXZ, Wave) and ride it for about 4 to 6 months and see if you can manage it? :thumb:

Don't buy a bike by installment, save enough to buy the bike in cash. Buy a bike that is cheap to run and needs little maintenance. I would think that the CBR125 would be a more ideal choice than the KRR150.

Go for it, nothing beats having your own transport while in school.

bro IMO, 420 is more then enough for you to own a 2nd hand bike..

currently im studying(poly) and working(weekends) and earn about 220+/mth and i can afford to own a 1st hand spark135 and paying $120/mth for installment..i pay my hp bill, SCV bills, my own expenses, petrol, servicing all by myself..

i think u will save alot on transportation since u paid $60 every month on concession,it will be a lot cheaper for bike, petrol will cost u around 10+ bucks and maybe u will need to topup twice a week since your school is not that far..

cheers

I was and still in your position somewhat. I stay at queenstown. skool ite dover (7 mins ride from home) workplace is a nearby luxury island very close to my home also. possible get a 2nd bike fully paid, like a rxz. bike is cheap maintanence is also cheap. so you pay for petrol only.

although you save more taking public transport and if you were involved in an accident, nothing beats having a bit more time to sleep, get to places faster and not having to wait for bus/ mrt. there are pros and cons... all the best in your choice... :)

If your intention of getting a bike is to save $$ on transport then forget it as you dun save much. Even if you are able to save a tiny sum a mth, how long is it going to take before you can break-even the cost of the bike?

Also by getting an old bike, u got to pray hard that it dun die on you, if not it will be another hundreds of dollars for repair.

On the other hand, if your intention of getting a bike is for the freedom and convenience, then i say PLS GO GET IT. The feeling of being able to go to anywhere you want at any time is PRICELESS!!!

i 2nd that, take my situation right now

HOME:Sengkang

School:Singapore poly at DOVER

70km distance takes me close to 1 hour 30 mins by public

Riding is 30 to 40 mins,

working part time earning 500 plus per month

barely enough to make it but reason is so i can reach school on time as lectures start at 8am.bike rarely used for leisure coz i can't afford it.

see u more fortunate than me, but its whether the purpose of owning a bike is there.i pay everything on my own so i control my own expenses.

and yeah i spend a bit more on bike than public but the convenience and freedom is something i treasure a lot

its your life.remember you only live once

hope this helps.....:thumb:
