If you have the size, built and attitude, go get a Harley.

As you already said, its your dream.

Live it, dont compromise and get 2nd choice.

Most people go through life following the crowd.

Others think for themselves.

They go their own way.

Both bike companies have a huge heritage behind them. Have you considered the Triumph Thruxton (900cc) or the Bonneville/ Bonnevile T100 yet? If you're looking for a cafe racer with aged style and tough street performance, you might like to consider these too as well.

Here are some pics.

I changed in total 5 bikes and in which 3 are Harleys. Am still riding a Harley now. I never tried a Triumph and must admit it looks good.

The reason why I choose a Harley is because I always feel a rush when I hear something thunderous is coming/went past.

I must add to the lifestyle part, having an exotic bike is a thing, but how often do you see Triumph riders troop together? Rarer then catching a Gallardo on the road.

Harley owners like to group together because the belief is that having the same make of bikes can let the owners talk about the ride, having both in/tangible benefits. From learning on the technical aspect of the bike, to making friends and bonding, In an addition, you may even get good deals from friends. :p

Oh yes, even with bad horsies on my Harley, it is still more then enough to overtake cars even on the expressway.

All as well, ends well.

yea man, get the triumph!!

heaps of mechanics are sooooo familiar in the bike.

pull up to any garage and they will welcome u with open arms.

oh yes, and the built is so fantastically solid.

screws and bolts wont come apart when u hit 200.

unlike most other bikes.

parts too are so easily accessible and cheap.

y consider anything else?

y bother thinking twice?

make the choice and u'll be thanking yourself that this is probably the best decision you ever made in your life

go for the triumph if ure not worried about resale, esp. the current models.

if u survey the mkt for the last 12 mths, those who wanted to sell their machines had to slash prices by abt 20-30% more than similar class jap bikes.

tahan the depren. and u will be fine.

its a bike for life.

oh yea, i dont know if u consider this interesting or not, but the folks that keep coming up to ask u about yr triumph are male and over the age of 55.

these are the ppl who grew up with the brand and have fond memories of it.

those 35 and below only associate triumph with sLoggi....... :)

Yeah...

Bro, I've ridden a 1998 T509 885cc Speed Triple, a 2006 1050cc Speed Triple and a 2003 1480cc Road King Classic. Between the two triples, I'd say the 1050 packs a LOT more punch in the engine. Too much punch for me, though. The T509 was and remains my favourite ride so far.

Again, I'm secretly glad to see other bikers having a Triumph in their purchase options. I'd be even happier to see the Triumph in their garage. True, I lost a bit of money when I sold off the T509, but hey, I didn't have as much fun on any other bike.

I'm considering between Harley or Triumph. I dunno which make to go for. I'm looking at the entry level of a Harley like the Sportsters 883 or the Triumph's America or the Street Triple 675.

Which model will have a lower running cost like Fuel and Maintainence. Performance wise I think the Street Triple will win any of the models hands down.

I still can't make up my mind to go for new technology or just go and fulfill my dream of owning a Harley.

Hope to hear some comments from you guys!

Thanks for reading this!

Hi

U are talking of two totally different types. Sportster 883 is a cruiser with easy going type of riding. Street Triple is an aggressive road bike with sharp handling. If u performance is on your mind then go for street triple and u won't regrade. If U have to dream a Harley then sportster is a good choice.

Running cost should not be a big problem except spare part which is not so

easy with the current Triumph's agent but u can always buy it online.

Although this thread is dying but still I want to add on alittle.

What is exactly the requirements you want when choosing between this 2 brands/makes?

Looks? or Handling?

If you want handling, I presume Triumph would be a good choice, while the Harley sportster is not far behind either.

If you are talking about looks, any bikers should more or less know both of them, BUT when you are referring to non-bikers, USUALLY the general impression of loud thunderous bikes are non other then Harleys.

I had a non biker friend as a pillion while a Triumph (Sorry, I am not a fan of Triumph therefore I wouldn't know the model, except Rocket III) rode pass, not exactly as loud as mine though. When we arrived at the desired destination, he asked me about whether was that "Triumph" a Harley.

The conclusion is obvious

P.S: If you are going to buy a Harley and worry about maintenance cost, then it is quite sad as the more expensive portion has yet to derive.. Customization.

All as well, ends well.

Agree! Harley maintenance actually cheaper than jap bikes... just that when the customization starts... its an expensive addiction... :D

Once upon a time owning a Harley was my dream although i knew it doesn't fit my lifestyle of riding everyday, everywhere & road trips very so often. After 25yrs of riding i decided that it's time for me to slow down & maybe start riding on a American Big Twin thus i started my hunt for a American cruiser.

Test rode a few friends HD including a Street Glide & a Soft Tail. Sometime mid this yr @the dealer's showroom i test rode a Sporters 1200 & the Street Bob & I eventually bought an American Big V of another brand - Victory. The feel on the HDs just ain't rite for me, some1 who is so use to the clinical feel of Japaneses motorcycles after riding 14 of them over 25yrs. The ride quality, from the handle bar through my butt and down to my feet just didn't feel good. On the other hand it was love @1st ride with my Victory Cross Country, the torque, the smoothness of the engine, the low rumbling of the exhaust is intoxicating yet not annoying, the sitting position, the ergonomics from my finger tips down to my toes just feel great. Exactly what their slogan say "Ride 1 and you will own 1". Ya I test ride on 1 & I own 1 :p

As for the HD marketing of riding a legend, lifestyle etc was never in any part of my consideration for choosing a bike. I m and have always been a Lone Rider, attended only 3~4 bikers meetup and mayb 3~4 group road trips over the yrs. Oh and also the what ever 'W...o...w!' factors imo r for posers who wants attention more then the ride itself. In fact I m so shy a person that to avoid the attention I cover up my bike at the end of each day

After years of riding, many would prefer a bike that has good local support and knowledge from both AD and third party workshops. For me I even go to the next level where the bike model shud be fairly common or that it's based on a common bike so easy to get parts, troubleshoot among owners and availability of accessories.
