one that i will forget is when i was at the middle lane, and a cab on the lane beside me(right). he made a sudden lane change and i have no choice to swerve and E-brake and hit the back off lorry even after a brake..

i chase after the cab and stop beside him. He look scare thou, but i jus say, uncle

be careful next time.. i jus sigh and ride off.. i even point him my dented mudguard and plate number.. i ask them, who gonna pay this.. i sigh and ride off.

taxi drivers. overheads per day at least $130. drive to support family, bills to pay, children to put in school. 20,000 odd taxis in singapore. competition very fierce. most can hardly make ends meet. so there are those that drive 16hrs just so to make enough. one day 24hrs, drive 16hrs left with less than 8hrs to sleep or see family.

how to be a good driver with all these problems at back of head.

we bikers on the road how many hours, and we ride we enjoy the ride. they drive and come and spoil our enjoyment. aiyah, how? do we hate them or what.

ride a bike and definitely you will split lanes (irritates drivers), drive and you will irritates bikers because drivers are always in our way.

what to do? don"t say 'hate' because it is a very strong word. imagine someone telling you he or she hates you.

'spectrum' has a very positive attitude. it's part and parcel. why get upset.

we ride defensively....VERY defensively.

CABBIES ARE IRRITATING!! LIKE TO STOP SUDDENLY FOR PASSENGERS...WORST STILL STOP ILLEGALLY JUZ B4 ZEBRA CROSSING AT WHITE ZIG-ZAG LINES!!! ESP. AT SERANGOON GARDENS AT THE CHOMP CHOMP ZEBRA CROSSING... THERE 1 LANE NIA THEN THEY STOP N BLOCK TRAFFIC!!!! SOMETIMES NOT THEIR FAULT - INCONSIDERATE PASSENGERS - BUT THE TAXI DRIVERS SHLD HAVE MORE INITIATIVE N NOT STOP N BLOCK PPLE MAH!!! I SUGGEST USING CAMERAS TO TAKE DOWN THEIR LICENCE PLATE NO. N SUBMIT TO TP!!! LET THEM TIO SUMMON!!

INCONSIDERATE PASSENGERS

Has anyone ever tell the cab driver to hurry just b'cos you're late?

If the driver tell the passenger that he should come out earlier if he doesn't want to be late, guess what the passenger reply? "I won't be taking your taxi if I'm not in a hurry!".

In this scenario, if the driver follows the instruction to speed, other road users will say "See, see, taxi drivers are always like that". If the taxi driver ignore the instruction and drive within the speed limit, it'll be the passenger grumbling "Si liao la, you drive so slow. How to 'tan jiat' ".

Either way, the driver is being blamed. Get my point?

There are many kinds of passenger. Most think that just b'cos they are the paying customer, they're king. They can just order the driver around with unreasonable demand that may lead to accident.

Some passengers can't even differentiate between LEFT and RIGHT (in Mandarin & dialect), especially the younger generations. They gave wrong instruction to the driver and expect the driver to miraculously turn LEFT on the rightmost lane when he actually instructed the driver to turn RIGHT not realising that he has made a mistake.

Many can curse and swear at cab driver like nobody's business. If they are able to spend some time as a part time cab driver or at least talk to one of them, they will realised it' not easy to earn a living with taxi driving.

Nobody enjoy being cursed by someone behind. Taxi driver are no exception.

Some habits of taxi drivers can be changed like "stop or cut in suddenly to fetch a fare". I believe if sufficient feedback to the LTA (not the taxi companies) are made, these situations may get better. However some habits like speeding are common to all motorists, not just taxi drivers.

Afterall, when a taxi driver is involved in an accident, it will mean a lost of income during the period when the vehicle is sent for repair and he may also liable to compensate the other party if he is found guilty.

It could also means that the driver may even suffer injuries which may in turn caused him out of work for a longer period or even worst if it's fatal.

These problem lies in the fact that our taxi drivers are not professional driver. It's a job people jump into when they got retrenched. How to expect these drivers to perform up to the public's expectation?

I believe this is one area where the LTA should do something about it.

Bloody taxi driver!!!

Could have been killed by this careless taxi ... put me outta action for 6 months.

Was riding down lane 2 alone with no cars around. Taxi parked on lane 1 ahead suddenly swerved to lane 3 'coz opposite junction got passenger waving for it. As I was almost beside the taxi by then, I couldn't stop in time. I braked & swerved to lane 3, but there he was! Bang! Me & bike slide 20+ metres across the road into on-coming traffic. I blacked out. Woke up 5 min later with lots of bystanders around. My bike was totalled. I couldn't walk properly with contusions, abrasions, sprain & strains. Miraculously, I wasn't run over by other cars during 7pm rush-hour & I didn't break any bones. Most scary part was having concussion with vomitting - thought I'm gonna die 'coz its my 3rd concussion liao. Phew! Still alive. Hospital observation for 2 days. Then headache for 1 week. Then crutches for 3 weeks. Now shoulder & hip still got pain. Irresponsible taxi guy didn't even call police that night (scared demerit points). I had to do it myself, in half dizzy state. Taxi man said he didn't see me. Of course lah 'coz his eyes only got the $$$ sign when he see passenger waving. *Sigh*

So, we bikers muz watch out for careless taxi!

Taxis, if everyone of us write down our bad experiences think now page 99. Jus to share a few bad experiences.

1. West coast rd parallel to the reservoir at 3am, single lane rd, speed 70 ~ 80km,

see taxi on opposition lane from far, approaching nearer, f@#king taxi shifting more & more towards my lane, horn like mad, F@#ker wake up, swing back to his lane. Imagine head on both at high speed.

2. I on left lane travelling at 70km, empty Taxi on middle lane travelling at higher speed, suddenly hand raise, taxi jammed break, cut into my lane jus in front of me, give me chance to practice my e-brake. Empty cab still travels so fast for wat?

3. Me on left lane 20m ~ 30m before making left turn, taxi coming out of waiting zone doing sharp lane change to lane 1, hand raise, sharp v turn back to lane 3 while at lane 2 facing lane 1, give me chance again to practice e-brake.

Sometimes passenger also play a part. Certain part of the road is dangerous to flag a cab.

4. Coming out of MSCP travelling on those brick road in housing block, doing left turn, after turn straight away jam brake, because a taxi in my lane heading towards me going to park in the unloading bay, f@#ker taking short cut, instead of being in the opposite lane till he reach the unloading bay.

5 ~ infinity, dun want to bore u people cos same old stories.

Due to the nature of my job, I clocked high mileage on the road so already condition to overtakes them or slow down when near them.

Should suggest to LTA that all taxi to be fitted with a "Danger. Stay Away!" sign. :D

I ever kenna taxi coming towards zebra crossing and I was crossing halfway and he horned at me a very very long horn and when i complete my ZEBRA CROSSING CROSS, he sped off.

Maybe give him the benefit of the doubt...Maybe his brakes spoil.

Maybe I should have just stood there and let him bang then can claim $ + MC.

But I came across some nice ones. Like i want to squeeze in betwn them and they steer abit to allow me space to squeeze thru'.

But 50% of them still look dangerous.

i got a idea

why not the police issue us a small video camera just like they giving us erp machine free lastime rite? ok this is how it work , when a driver or a motorcyclist start a car or bike up ,thay can swich on the video camera that fix in the frount n the journy will be recorded untill reach destination if along the way any rackless driver or motor cyclist will be capture in video n it can be sent to t.p department n fine them. if the driver or motorcyclist is inocent than the owner of that video will get into trouble liao.

why i say this method is quite gd?

1)all types of driver will be kind to motobikers

2)if fine is a lot than the cost of the camera will be covered

3)video record timming depend on memory card

4)less accident

5)etc

cos when i notice if a driver never ride before ,they dont care or feel how a rider feels. even like today heavy rain , they still drive fast like sunny day. poor bikers will have to suffer due to water splashing to them like me :weep: i totaly dont respect driver that dont care about bikers safety. sori if my suggestion is to long n lame. happy n safe riding to all

Whatever it is,

As long as in an accident, where taxi is involved, it has to be the TAXI fault!

Not only riders, ask any drivers or rather road users:-

who thinks taxi-driver are safe to other road-user?

I did it my way

one auntie taxi driver e-braked, cut to the left lane in a two laned road for passenger. dun want to pick up the passenger, suddenly sa u-turn. I was in the right lane when she did that. horned like hell and just barely stopped a few cm in front of her door. somemore the b**** still stop in the middle of the road to look at me, mouth open like a goldfish.

sat at a nearby bus-stop, hand shaking for half an hour b4 i got enuff courage to ride home.

i was lucky that i was not going very fast cos see taxi rush for passenger = slow down therefore didn't langgar. but hows that for an experience.

Relax!

All drivers MUST learn to ride a bike on the road!!!

Only then will they realize how vulnerable riders are, and when they actually drive on the road, they'll be more aware of looking out for us! :thumb:

Problem is .....

1) TP (according to Straits Times) thinks majority of bike accidents are caused by reckless riders, while

2) We riders feel its more of a case of reckless drivers causing our accidents (this fact is supported by the recent issue of the MCN, or Motorcycle News magazine http://www.motorcyclenews.com/ which did a scientific study showing that drivers just don't see us on the roads!)

Differing views = nothing's done = we're still vulnerable to accidents!

Here's another examples of Police "trying to meet target" by under-reporting annual riders accident statistics: http://www.motorcyclenews.com/nav?page=mot...NEWS_OTHER-NEWS

Likewise, Singapore roads ain't gettin any safer for us bikers!

If anything, its more dangerous with the rate of increase of cars growing faster than the rate of increase of roads built!

had an accident involving a taxi in front of tanglin s.c. along tanglin road...

i was in the right most lane(1st) he taxi was in the 2nd lane... as u know... theres a taxi stand in front of the centre... i was going straight down the 1st lane, when the taxi suddenly cuts into my lane into wat i deduced from his car angle... the taxi stand!!!

f****** b******!!! !@#$%@#!!!!

luckily i suffered only abrasions... no bones broken... but damn it hurts!!!

and now he said that it was my fault!!! bloody F***!!! it goes against all logic and evidence!!!

ouh yeah... and theres a dent juz in front of the driver's door where my bike hit the cab...

moral of story is...

if theres a taxi in the 2nd lane, keep as far back as possible... or best.. stay at least 1 lane away from them!!

they're so freaking unpredictable... and u nvr noe wat they mite do...

a good friend once said to me, "You will only be truly happy if you give your best in everything you do..."

and i thought to myself...

how true...
