tks for ur guidance.. i will be getting tat bike tis week.. r u riding that bike??

rwr is shortform for RoadWin R125..

if it's a 2nd hand bike, you do not have to run in and u cant.

run-in occurs when the engine is still new or newly rebuilt, run in is to allow the small parts to fit nicely into place. so u run in a 2nd hand engine = useless, unless you rebuild/overhaul?

just my 0.000002cents of my limited knowledge.

Do it after your stock paint works becomes bad la... no point spraying a new paint right for you, total waste of money.

to down fork, it helps with the corners, CKA does it. price wise, you got to check with them.

i asked CKA at jurong east.. got one 2nd hand de.. the person told me the previous owner down the handle bar.. is it good or bad.. higher or lower better?

Weight and Power

If you are 6ft tall and weigh 100kg, according to 2 sources, you are very overweight because your BMI is 29.90.

Sources: Wikipedia

HPB

@stsoh once said on the Roadwin (naked) thread “Go lose some weight!” I fully agree with him. Losing some weight will be better for you and the bike. :)

Sprocket size and Power

The stock rear sprocket size is 45T (teeth). When I got my bike in July last year the rear sprocket was stock. After riding for about 3 months, I changed it to 42T at CKA. Here are my findings:

Singapore streets:

I weigh about 56kg. Total weight with full gear and backpack is at least 66kg. My wife weighs about 55kg also.

I have no problems getting ahead at traffic lights with both the 45T and 42T sprockets while riding alone or with my wife on board.

Singapore Expressway and Malaysia North South Highway:

The RWr engine is very high revving with the 45T sprocket. When doing 110km/h (as indicated on the bike meter), the rev is in the 10k range. After changing to 42T sprocket, engine rev at the same speed is in the 9k range.

On Sillypore expressways, more often than not, I overtake and undertake most vehicles. On the NS Highway, I’ve done 138km/h at just below the 11k rev limit. I know of two RWr ex-owners with stock 45T sprockets who have hit 145km/h. This is only achieved at engine revs that are beyond the 11k limit. My bike still wants to go faster but I won’t trash the engine.

So, bottom line is that with our RWr, the lower ratio sprocket I fitted to my bike is best.

Engine Run-in, Power and Longevity

Engine run-in is applicable for new bike owners. New bike engines, chain and sprockets, brake pads and tyres need to be run in. The same applies if you overhaul your engine or change any of the aforementioned parts of old bikes.

When running in the engine of a new bike, there are two main methods: Soft or Hard. My personal preference is for the Soft method as recommended by all bike manufacturers. Manufacturers recommend soft run-in because this process has proven to be most effective in ensuring engine components last. Manufacturers don’t want unnecessary warranty claims. I have found this other rider’s explanation of run-in procedures to be most practical and I have applied this protocol on my new bikes and cars in the past.

Do note that when running in engines, there is no such thing as “I will try to adhere as much as possible, but when situation calls for it, to a certain extent, the protocol have to be compromised.” Either you adhere to the protocol or you don’t. There is no halfway adherence. Thus, if I am riding or driving a brand new or newly overhauled bike/car, I will not put myself in situations that will call for me to break the run in protocol.

2nd Hand Bike and No Power

This happened to me when I bought my present bike. After riding it for a couple of weeks, I sent it in to CKA to change some obvious culprits. With Roy’s (CKA Kaki Bukit Chief Mechanic) help in troubleshooting the bike, the expected performance was restored. See the report here

So for those of you who bought 2nd hand RWr’s work with your mechanic to troubleshoot your bike specific issues so you can enjoy your ride.

Cheers

Be wary of the source of information for your bike's maintenance. Some FAQs are compiled by people who lack the technical know how.

6K odd is pretty cheap!

HOW COME?!

Cheap, huh?

You interested, foxin?

FBD plate (so "younger" than the one you said cheap...), very well maintained. Showroom quality outlook... ;)
