[Technical] Possible Solutions to your Phantom's Problem

Alright it got the rest of the parts fixed. Now I'm left with the dented fuel tank... I'm thinking of getting it repainted with some designs and apparently HL CYCLE does stuff like that. Anyone can advise if that workshop's reputable price wise and workmanship wise? Oh yea and I'm gonna get the mud guards changed to match the fuel tank as well.. Any advise? :)

Many thanks!!

Well I went to planet motors today and he said he could knock out the dent till its unnoticeable and to repaint it matt black.. together with the front fender and rear fenders... So I went ahead with it. Any problems with matt black though? Does it get dirt on easily and stuff?

Oh any yea I gotta change my headlamps to bullet headlamp and side mirrors.. anyone know where can I get a good selection from?

ok, if it's ah chong, no problem. he can be trusted. matt black easy to maintain. but won't be noticeable at night, so make sure you got some other way to stay visible when night riding. cars can't see you, means another accident waiting to happen.

for accessories, go to AH Koon at Lengkok Bahru 61. under void deck. he has all the selections you will need.

Go Thailand!

That's where I got most of my things. Also bought a couple of things from Ah Koon.

Got people recommend auntie shop, but I have never tried buying from there.

Go at your own risk. :goodluck:

Matt Black don't spray whole bike, TP will catch, because matt black absorbs light at night, making it very very hard to see.

Eh.. Mine's the one with the black saddle bags!

And erm what do you mean by whole bike? My tank, front and back mudguards are matt black.. Is that okay? I asked Ah CHong and he told me its legal... :S

And what other ways can I make my bike visible? Gah should I just change it to Glossy black instead? :S

Oh one other thing guys. I love the look of the Shadow. But I can't get around how the handle bar looks so nice for Shadow.. But for the Ta200 It seems a little high. I change my handle bar to a lower one now but it feels a little weird cause I'm a pretty small guy and yea I've gotta lean forward quite abit now. Would having a pullback help? Still with a lower height of course..

Ahhhh..... got saddle bag one I think I also saw at Planet.

If scared matt black cannot be seen, can paste those glow in the dark sticker, got the cresent moon one. If you don't like moon shape, can paste the star shape one. At night glow in the dark people from far sure can see. :)

Yes, a pull back will help, but you got to get used to the change in steering.

i dun tink got legal issues la. as long as u update at one-motoring regarding color change. TP shudnt hv any reason to disturb u. my DIY paint matt black even got TP n LTA pass me n smile oso hv. if scared, either fix LED light strips (this one cfm illegal, but i gonna fix up soon anw) or paste those reflective stickers. they can fine me for LEDs, but i think of safety more.

since u r small-built, i suggest stock handlebar, if nt u will be hurting ur back in the long run. i changed mine to an almost straight bar (FZ1 bar) cux im tall n i was slouching wif the stock bar. y nt use the stock one n adjust accordingly but rotating the bar?

Oh.. Lol where can I get the stickers from? Koon?

And yeap I'm probably gonna fix some reflective stickers somewhere..

Hmms and if i keep this low handlebar but get one with a pull back... would it be an issue? Like it hitting the tank and stuff..

But yea your right I think I'd use the stock one if I find it too uncomfortable.. :S

stickers can get from regina at kelantan lane.

Hi guys! Thanks so much for the assistance last week! Finally got my bike back and got most of the parts fixed!

Anyways! Now my bike's matt black but there seem to be some fingerprint marks on the fuel tank that I can't seem to wash off with water... Is it possible to use car wash solution on matt black surfaces? :S

fingerprint marks that can't wash off sounds to me like someone touched it wen it was nt fully cured yet.. only an abrasive can remove it.. but u might damage the paintwork.. if its tiny n unnoticeable, i suggest leave it alone...

for my matt black paintwork, i wash it as per usual... no probs so far... best part = no nd to polish after that!

Hello guys,

I just bought a used phantom. I noticed that after riding a short distance, it is very difficult to bring the bike to neutral from 1st gear, when I stop at traffic light. At the beginning of journey it is easy to shift to neutral, but as the oil heats up it becomes difficult.

Today I was riding in the rain, so the engine was running much cooler and it was very easy to shift to neutral. So my conclusion is if the EO is running cool then gear shifting is easy. The previous owner said he has put Chex EO in it and I still havent changed it. I just checked using dipstick and it has been significantly overfilled, until the middle of the dipstick(not the middle of the dipstick mark, the middle of the whole dipstick itself :slapforehead:)

I am going to change EO today, any reccomendations for EO that runs the coolest? I am assuming it definitely has to be XXW50 grade EO. But which is the best and best value for money?

Also when I run at high speed, especially gears 5 and 6, I get a high pitch hauling sound, looks like gear whine. May be the previous owners didnt maintain proper OCI :(. It has run about 77K kms though, so is it expected to have gear noise?

Thanks in advance!

Thanks @naim,

I was just reading this thread, regarding the legality issue of painting matt black. My bike was sprayed matt black by the previous owner, for the rims, engine, fork etc. The front chrome headlight and rear signal light has also been sprayed black :slapforehead:. My bikes color is also black. Do you see any issues with passing inspection?

@revhappy,

the gear whine sound is normal, i get it as well, only in gear 6.

for eo, can try weights 40-50.

chex for me was too much vibration. motul is good as it is 40 weight and gives the bike a light feeling, but heats up faster than chex.

you can also try schaffer which i will be trying next change. its available at mx tradings near ubi area. cheap also.

for phantom, 1 liter is enough. doesn't matter what he/she/mechanic said. i say 1 liter, manual say 1 liter, means 1 liter is enough.

try the new oil and see if the shifting is easier.

Thanks bro, This time I will stick to motorcycle specific oil as Schaefer is HDEO isnt it. Next change will think of experimenting :)

I wanted to change the EO today itself, but this stupid rain is not stopping...

Just came back from powerwheel. I got the Motul 5100 10W50 for 16$. There was lot of EO drained out, atleast about 1.5L, damn! the eo was quite dirty brown too.

After changing gear shifting was much much better. Although today is a very cold day, can't really judge. Need to test it on a hot afternoon.
