[Technical] Possible Solutions to your Phantom's Problem

It's more likely to be timing problem. Not sure whether the cam chain tensioner has any part to play in this.

Wah timing, not funny sia

4 stroke sohc leh.. if cam chain not timing properly means damn cock already liao. Thought yr rebuild last time got change cam chain and CCT so fast give way? And if cam timing issue probably whack piston already. If misfire maybe other reasons though. E.g. inconsistent spark or a/f mixture cannot consistently ignite during engine operation... try the cheaper solutions first bro..

Hey guys, on friday i encountered this funny problem. Tried starting the bike, it never got started. Open trottle a little then it starts running. But the moment i close trottle, the engine rpm drops then immediately dies. After 5 tries later still the same problem. Then i figured might be idling issue. True enough, the idling screw was completely screwed beyond even the minimum, hence the engine didnt even get to idle. Funny thing is, during morning i didnt have this issue. So how can the idler screw be set to that kind of level? Was thinking maybe someone pull a nasty prank on me or something.

Another issue was, once a while, when i suddenly open trottle at very low rpm, there's a pop sound and engine almost went dead. Took abt 1s for it to get back to normal. Doesnt sound like backfire. Sounded like misfiring instead. Am i right? It rarely happens, but it does. Only happens when i suddenly twist the trottle open at low rpm.

seems more like fueling problem. dont think its engine issue. probably ur carb or something. IIRC ur tank is rusty right?

Hmm. Yeah still rusty today but less rusty now. Havent got the time to derust it yet =/ (Abit scared to give shop derust also, scared they destroy my nice paintjob). Also, oil leak still not solved despite gasket has changed. Gasket changed was the left side, where the alternator thingy was (forgot name lol). Wonder if i should do a strip down and have a full check. Engine full of small leaks, damn. Also suffering from chain slapping swing arm. Suddenly problems start popping up. :nono:

EDIT: Has anyone done tappet clearance adjustment before? I read from the manual it says this has to be done. Apparently mine seems to be suffering from the iconic tappet clearance "chatter".

Hello spark

Dont be bothered by the tappet clearance. Change to heavier oil and it will go away.

about your problem, i have had the exact symptoms a few times and it was water in fuel.

could be a prank too.

Hi. Many thanks for your insight! Problem turns out to be a worn out conrod bearing, causing play on the conrod. Did a full overhaul at Planet and problem was solved now. =)

Hi guys, my TA200's front brake doesn't seem to be very effective. I changed the brake pad, but the problem still persists. Could it be something about the front brake cable?

Check your brake pump, caliper and oil level. Does it feel spongy(squishy)? If so you have air inside your system and this affects braking performance. Is your pump leaking? Oil level enough? System leaking oil?

Ask shop to change brake fluid. If still no good, ask to service ur brake pump and caliper.

Hey naim, thanks for the reply! Appreciate it :) How much would it be to change the brake fluid usually? I think the previous owner didn't really take care of the bike. Spent about 300 plus changing various engine parts

few dollars only! I paid 2-5 sgd at various places before. get yr mechanic to bleed the air out of yr brake hoses as well if needed!

When going up to 6th gear with my speed around 90... the engine sounds like quite forceful and the power makes me feel like that there is still a gear to go up to.. but in fact already 6th gear... top speed can only travel 110km/hr.. just changed my clutch plate and skin.. also washed the carburettor... dunno what happen to it.. anybody can advise?? Thanks a million..

my butt dyno tells me ~90kmh is starting of peak torque leh. =D maybe there is no problem? or was it previously not like this?

previously it was'nt like this... easily can go up to 120km/hr... now v forceful only reach 110km/hr... the revving from previously wasnt so fierce... dunno what happen to it...

i can only hazard a guess that it could be air/fuel mixture issue since you've just replaced your clutch plates.

check your spark plug colour to see if its too lean or too rich. my similar problem went away after a carb tune by the mechanic cos i was running overly lean. fierce but no power.

Hi guys, my TA200 seems to be leaning sideways a little. Got ah chong to check and he already repaired the front suspension and aligned the handlebar. However, the problem still persists. What could be wrong?

Have you checked your wheel bearings?

Hey sawfly, not yet. Should I get them to have a look at it?

I think you should. Checking them wont take long. It might be a bad bearing after all.
