If yr VM is showing 9-9.9v after u DIY , pls check yr DIY job again, something is not right !!! It maybe the battery but i think itis yr DIY job..... pls check

Cannot be my DIY stuff.. Cause I off my lights MOST of the times.. On once a day to check it's working... Less den 20 seconds... Not moving...

the voltage is abit low, start up engine should be 13V and abit higher.

when your moving how much is the voltage of your voltmeter showing?

where is the voltmeter connected to?

you need to check your DIY or maybe your LED eat a too much battery already.

my frd kr also got tis kind of problem he changed a rectificer and its ok already:goodluck:

huh?? Start up engine 13v??? I tot 2.4 is normal? My bike is 2B KR150... Small one..

While Moving is showing 13.9-14.2 (Max) Connected to my igniation...

My leds is off most of the time, so I'm pretty sure it wun affect unless I on it...

Change recitficer? It's ex bro... It's around $90-$120...

Kindly read thru at least the intro section first before decide to post any comments.... thanks...

i jus got this prob.

past 3 months(or less) jus changed new batt at bike shop...

and recently problems started to show, cause im riding an SP150,

1st, weeks b4 tat my horns cant work properly, 2nd then when i switch on my front lights the neutral light will become dimmer, 3rd, sometimes my bike will switch off by itself while idling.

rounding up the story, 1 finally find out the problem when i cant even start my bike. Push bike to bike shop and mechanic checked my bike, first he checked my batt. then he checked my rectrifier, he said that the retrifier was the cause of it, and because of the rectrifier it made my batt. spoilt!

so better check ur rectrifier b4 u change your batt.***

guys, don't mind i hijack this thread, but i currently encountering a situation

my bike is a vara125 caburator version. i had changed my battery in end of may. the new battery is a yuasa MF drycell battery. i'm an average bike user, go work use bike, go out also use bike, everyday got use bike.

now, one day, out of a sudden, when i want to electric start my bike, my bike can't start. is this a case of battery no batt? cuz i notice my headlight and neutral lights are still litted and fine. before this, my bike start up fine, no problem. but when i start my bike, i can only hear the electric relay switching, but don't hear the engine coughing...

my current immediate rectification is to purchase a battery charger and charge up my battery first... then install back and see can it start or not.

but gentlemen, is there possibly anything wrong other than the battery itself?

thanks is advance.

get a volt meter to check up on yr voltage of the batt.. cannot be lower than 12V..

if u charge up the batt and get a volt reading of abt 12.4V, but still cannot crank.. onli hav the sound of the relay clicking.. time to check yr starter motor.. maybe the starter carbon is out..

if after charge, the voltage is abt 12.4 and able to crank and start the bike, check the charging system..

wah, gentlemen... you're not going to believe what had happened.

i bought a charger to charge up my battery to the fullest, install back into the bike, and tried to electric start again... still cannot! same thing, only can hear the relay jumping non-stop, then the trip meter and clock will reset.

then i asked about how to push start my bike, which i succeeded in doing... go a few rounds around the carpark. off the engine, and try to electric start my bike again... now i can hear the cranking sound a bit, before it died off again. electric start again and it's back to normal (only can hear relay sound),

then i push start one more time, and this time, ride straight to motorshop (unique). when i reach there, i demonstrate to the guy what happened by turning off the engine, then electric start in front of them... BUT now, my bike can start up without any hiccups.

i off/on a few times, but like totally no issue. i see the shop guy, he see me back, i don't know what to say

but in the end, he offered to check my bike battery and charging system, and he found nothing wrong... so i rode back home...

till now, i do not have the same issue happening to me again.... yet.

and seriously, i dont know what had just happened... anyone can enlighten me?

I had a similar problem, and it turned out to be loose wiring in the positive terminal @ the battery which resulted in bad contact and non-charging of the battery and non-operation of the starter. Since the mechs already checked it out you shouldn't have a problem, at least i don't anymore, that is.

Most likely it is a loose electrical connection somewhere. How old is your bike ? Have had your wire harness checked? do check the battery terminal & starter connections. There was once i help a fellow rider, who cliam there is no electric connection at all - push start also cannot, finally when i messy around with the ignition key switch wiring - the bike start like a breeze.... :p

part of the blog.. ..is this what happen to u?

I had 2 days to plan this trip, as I unexpectedly was able to get 3 weeks off work. At first I saw it as an opportunity to bring my Suzuki to Tuscon. I had envisioned a fly and ride program for a few years now, but after meeting Frank Z of ZMW Motorwerks Inc last fall and discussing the idea with him, it became closer to a reality. Then this 1000cc bike fell into my lap, a perfect bike for leaving down south, I began prepping it for its new life down in Tuscon. I had replaced a few parts and had the aluminum boxes mounted to the bike, expecting to ride it down next fall and fly home, leaving the bike down in there.I had no idea that I was about to have the time to do it sooner. So, the time off work was a surprise and then it dawned on me, why not bring the XR along, drop off the Suzuki with ZMW, and then go ride Baja for a week and a half. This is starting to look good.

I had 2 days to prepare and one of them involved being at work. I threw a bunch of gear together, loaded the GPS with some data, and I loaded both bikes in the pickup and blasted off. Two and a half days later I was in Tuscon at ZMW Adventures. The arctic air permeated a long ways down, even Arizona was colder than usual. Both bikes came off the truck, the Honda had winter oil in the motor, the Suzuki needed to have the fuel drained for storage. The next morning I looked at the tires on the Honda XR 650L, they were worn about one third off. I figured they would do for a short trip into Mexico. I cleaned the air filter and rode it back into the truck and tied it down. I shook hands with Frank, he gave me a map, wrote a few things on it, and I was off to Yuma. The next morning, I tried to get Mexico insurance, and Allstate would not give me it unless I had an existing policy with them. I traded $ into Pesos, and found a place to store the truck. Its getting past noon now and I want to get going. I have the saddlebags on the bike, tailbag, put my riding gear on, hook up the GPS .The GPS will not work. What? I wiggle the wire from the bikes battery, no power! Then I go to turn the key on. Its already on! And it has been for many hours since I loaded the bike yesterday. Not good. So I run a jumper from the cig lighter in the pickup to the GPS hard wire circuit, carefully verifying the polarity. The light guage wire gets warm as the current flows…I take off my jacket and wait. After a while I turn the key on and hit the starter. Nil. I look at the headlight, not a faint glow or nothing, I try the button again and then realize the polarity is wrong, having charged up the battery in the wrong direction for 25 minutes. A very shitty feeling flows through my gut. I recall how warm that wire was and think about the electronic components and what the damage is….more shitty feeling like a second wave of shitty-ness or something. I know right now I will not be in Mexico today. I unload the saddlebags and other gear from the bike, and put it all back in the truck.

I reconnect the wire the way its supposed to go, this time not verifying ****-all because it’s the way its supposed to be. After driving close to 4000kms,being in a bit of a rush, this is what happens. I decide right there that I will slow down and relax and deal with things. I don’t need to be anywhere, really feeling the warmth of the desert being with my motorcycle in the dead of winter is still ok to me. I turn the key on and there is light. A fellow nearby offers me booster cables. I say no, he leaves them with me. Boosting bikes is something I try to avoid doing. I turn the key on and hit the button ….click click. **** it, I use the boosters and the XR fires to life! I decide to ride around Yuma and try the bike out, charging the battery and see if I damaged anything. It feels good to be riding again and not be in a rush to go anywhere. I stop at a Honda cycle place, and as soon as I shut the bike off someone tells me I can’t park there. I turn the key on and hit the button. Vroom! The shitty feeling is totally gone. So this bike has had the battery killed and charged up backwards, with the key turned on and starter button tried, add that to the list…been stolen and recovered, been flipped over backwards in 3 rd gear wheelies on pavement twice in one week, been run for a few miles with no oil in the motor, been submerged totally underwater with the engine running, as well as general abuse like riding wide open all she’ll do for 2 hours at a time. What a bike! Tomorrow is a new day. I will go into Mexico.

How unusual.......... on most automotives - charging the wrong way would have produce a short circuit within the electrical system unless there is a back-flow relay block. If so then the battery would hv been drained & after reversing the polarity & when u charge again by riding long distance the battery would be charged up again. :)

1. How old is ur batt?

2. Hook up a multimeter to the batt .. check its voltage while u crank the bike

3 if u see that the voltage suddenly drops to below 10.4V during the cranking.. most likely is that ur batt is a goner..

Loose battery terminal connections or badly oxidised terminals.

Pour Coke or other gassy soda drinks on the terminals to remove the oxidation and then check for tightness of fitment.

NO... I am not joking when I say pour Coke on the oxidised parts. It will become like new again.

Erm.... my battery issue came back again...

I didn't touch my bike for 3 days during CNY period. Then I went to start up the bike... hear a single or two cranking coughing sound, then went dead.

I used back the same previous method of charging my batt fully using an external charger... but this time, this also did not help to start up my bike at all. So basically, all the way until now, i had been push-starting my bike all the way.

Coincidentally, I noted my headlight lamps are also blown. BUT my neutral light is still going strong (and this is before i try to charge up my batt). and as mentioned above, yes, i'd noted my terminals seem to have oxidised a bit.

With response to my previous incident, when i send the bike to Unique, they had checked my battery by hooking up with a multimeter to the battery. they got on the lights, on the high beam, rev here and rev there, start here and crank there, and check the multimeter readback... the readback maintained at 12V ~ 14V. i can't remember the exact details and readbacks, but i remember that seriously, the readback is reflecting that there is really no issue with my bike batt & charging system.

Oh yeah, this batt was purchased end of may 2008. YUASA brand. MF type.

now, given my current incident, i'm intending to send my bike to a shop who is familiar with vara125's electrical system...

BUT before that... Mr. Limbat, may i send my bike to your place and ask you to check for me a bit first? cuz i believe you have a deep knowledge in this electrical issue...

Hmmmmmmmmm but sure looks like your bike starter ( soleniod switch ) may need to be serviced. Btw how old is your bike ? Try the old trick of giving your bike starter motor a firm knock knock with a piece of wood...... then maybe u can start her up to ride her to the LBS to have her serviced.
