'Family problems' to end Dyer's Newcastle career?

 

Newcastle boss Sam Allardyce has admitted Kieron Dyer could leave the club over 'family problems'.

 

 

The 28-year-old midfielder has been at the centre of speculation that he wants a move away from St James' Park after eight years for more than a week amid claims he is unhappy on Tyneside.

 

 

Allardyce revealed at the weekend he would hold talks with the England international in an effort to discover his feelings, and having done so, is now attempting to resolve the issue.

 

He said: 'At the moment, there's a problem from a family point of view and we have to try to see whether we can resolve that, and if we cannot, then that may well result in Kieron looking to leave the club for that reason and that reason alone.

 

'That's the discussion we have had. It's obviously disappointing for me, but it is one I understand.

 

'If somebody has got a problem they cannot resolve, then ultimately in the long run, it is better for the club and better for him if you can resolve that problem.

 

'If that's away from here, then so be it.' More to follow...

It's high time we got rid of that hefty pay wage and let someone foot the bill. Dyer may be destructive at his best...but how often do we see him at his best?? 180 appearances in 8 years is a crappy return for the kind of $ he's getting per week.

 

Anyway I saw somewhere that Chiellini is available and is a Man City target. Since we're in the market for left backs, I think we should go for him. He's class.

yeah i agree with u metalfyre. we still haven't get any left back yet. should get one before the season kick off. there's a few left backs we can try getting such as wayne bridge, frank quedrue, leighton baines, chiellini or maybe nicky shorey as well.

Albert Luque was outstanding as Newcastle United thumped Celtic 4-1 at St James' Park last night.

 

The forgotten Spaniard, who had been promised a chance to prove himself all over again, grabbed his opportunity with a first-half double to leave Scottish champions Celtic reeling.

 

He and Obafemi Martins combined to hand their side a 3-0 lead at the break as the frailty of the visitors' defence proved more costly than that of their hosts.

 

The Magpies did not have it all their own way by any means as the Hoops played some neat football, but where Luque and Martins were decisive in front of goal, it took Celtic 72 minutes to find a way past former trainee Shay Given as Scott Brown claimed a consolation strike.

 

The bulk of a crowd of 30,225, including former Magpies boss Sir Bobby Robson, went home smiling having seen Geremi in particular shine on his Tyneside debut as James Milner sealed the victory at the death.

Dyer on verge of City switch

Newcastle star Kieron Dyer is set to join Manchester City for £4.5m and could have a medical today, according to reports.

The England international is on his way out of St James' Park because of unspecified "family problems" and Eastlands chief Sven Goran Eriksson is tipped to beat West Ham to the 28-year-old.

Yesterday Hammers chief Alan Curbishley admitted his interest in the former Ipswich youngster when stating: "Kieron wants to leave Newcastle and we have been linked with him. I have one eye on everything until that transfer window closes - so we'll have to see."

 

However, Dyer is poised to link up with his former national side boss Eriksson, according to a report in The Sun.

 

The midfielder sat out Newcastle's 4-1 pre-season friendly win over SPL champions Celtic last night as a precaution.

 

Boss Sam Allardyce said: "We were just protecting our asset. There is a big value in him."

Even though he's a good player, he's quite an injury prone. So if Man City bid £4.5m, that's quite a reasonable price to me. I guess if Big Sam allows him to go, i reckon he will get another replacement for him.
