Hi All,

Need advice/opinion.

Recently I have difficulty starting my bike.

After turning ON the Ignition Key, speedometer needle goes up & down (normal routine), and I press the Start switch. But the engine won't start.

Sometime I will turn OFF & ON the red Kill Switch and try to start again. Sometime the engine will start, and sometime it won't. I noticed that whenever the engine can't start, I would hear a "tick" sound each time I press the Start switch.

Occasionally I have to fiddle the Switch, like pressing a few times, to start the bike.

What's wrong? Is it the Ignition Coil problem or could it be the Start Switch itself??

Battery is good, just changed 2 month back.

Rectifier, changed less than a year back.

Appreciate any reply

My ride: FZ1S (Model 2007)

Got volt meter? What's your batt voltage once you turn the key to ON?

Could be batt. Could be wiring problem in the cutoff switch. Could be starter relay (that click sound).

Refer here: http://www.fz1-forum.com/forum/fz1-technical/12186-starting-problems-relay-sound.html

Bring to mechanic.

I definitely think e batt is ok. Voltmeter shows arnd 10-11 once turn on e key and would goes up to 12 once engine starts. Ok, will check e starter relay switch. Had a strong feeling abt it too but just couldn't figure it out. Thanks for e input.

I think batt dying already. I had similiar voltage reading when my batt was slowly dying. Should Read about 12 then charge more then 13.

One more thing that really saved my future battery was re wire the new iu to start switch and not directly batt as it was drawing power when not on.

10 to 11 is definitely not good. Startup voltage shd be 12.5 to 12.8V. Once the engine is running it should be 13.4 to 13.7V idle. Throttle work shd bring it to 14 to 14.3V

Hi DeusExMachina,

Thanks for the input. Will check the batt condition. Could be the cause. IU, Alarm, GPS charger all connected to e batt and it's draining my batt slowly.

when i was riding my fz6 fc range from 17-22km/l.

fz8 from what i understand is probably about 17km/l, fz1 maybe about 15km/l lor.

Rat bike - A motorcycle not necessarily kept in pristine condition, often painted matt black. Minimal maintenance and mismatched parts often used.

Talking about battery....is there any FZ1 riders using the 8 or 12 cell Ballistic Lithium Iron Phosphate battery? It would be beneficial for all if he or she can tell us about the performance of this new type of battery.

FZ1 - 15km/l average.

Full tank to reserve ~~ 230km

Worse than some small cars.

With the FC consideration for weekly travel range 280KM, I will target either FZ8S or XJ6 for upgrading bike.

FZ1'07: 17.5km/L (90% highway, 10% city riding)

Most importantly IMO is --> throttle friendly lah...:cheeky:

Throttle happy = bad FC

Anyone owns the original side panniers for FZ1? are they wider than the mirrors or exactly in line with the mirrors?

been trying to search for pics on it but cant seem to find them..

And are there any other side panniers (35litres) that goes in line with the mirrors?

Hi bro, if ur bat already 2 yrs old, then its time to change.. If it not, then charge it.. For e rest of e items that connect directly to e batt, use a current distribution device, it helps.. If ur mileage already 45000 km n havent chage e coil, go n change it.. It wud get more expensive if e magneto go kaput.. After checking all e above n still got problem with starting up, chang e starter copper brush...

Just my opinion.. Had rode 1 b4, e only fz1s having a red cam cover.. That was 2 yrs ago, dunno wherher others got follow suit hehe..

hi all,

I am the 2nd owner of fz1s.Since I've bought the bike,I discovered that whenever I released my handle at @90-100km,the bike swerves to the left.I've changed my cone bearing that had caused my new front tyre to go uneven ,changed to new handle, changed the front rim bearings, pressed the front rim, but the problems still exists.I've sent to various shops to rectify the problems.is it because of my fork, spec or worse my body alignment? I cant get to ride comfortably while trying to maintain the straight

course along the road.:cry:any motorshops that the mechanics really do the test ride and not just assume here and there and caused more hole on my pockets?I would be thankful for any constructive opinions and suggesstions.:p

Bro, i had face e prob that ur facing b4 when i had my fz1s.. Correct tire pressure n fork n rear suspension setting plays a major part.. When u change e bearings, did u chck e old bearing condition ?

Bte i did e above n no prob after that :)

Bro, the mirrors are about the same/ wider than the fitted original panniers. If you need the rack, I am offering mine with one side pannier (right) FOC for sale at $200 (Nego.)

If you getting H&B panniers, I have another set of SW Motec Rack for sale at $250. H&B panniers are much wider than OEM. The handlebar width is about 90cm. The mounted H&B explorer is about 110 cm.

My number is 91715714.
