FYI I dont work for this company, just something very useful i wish to share

 

I was recommended to use this lap timing software (http://www.racechrono.com/) for my trackdays and i have to say it is excellent.

 

First of all it is free, all you have to do is download the program into your mobile phone, and buy a gps receiver that only costs about 30 to 40 dollars.

 

Just connect the gps receiver to your phone by bluetooth and you are ready to record your lap times.

 

I have used a lap timer as well as use this gps lap timing software together on a track day to find out the accuracy of this thing and the lap times are the same as the ones recorded on the laptimer. The results are only like 0.0020 difference per lap. Plus it measures split times and you can download the data to your computer to see your corner speed for each corner.

 

Great tool to use on the track consider the fact that it only cost 30 dollars for the gps receiver compared with the 100plus dollars you have to spend for a laptimer.

Damn...was hoping it'll work on a phone like a Motorola, or a sophisticated smartphone like the Blackberry, or the iPhone 3G GPS. These kinds of apps are possible to make for 3G phones...but nobody has ever thought of it yet.

 

Now the question remains is the accuracy rate. From what I know, GPS uses radio signals and triangulation, so I'm wondering whether it has some noticeable lag when it is used for such precision lap captures.

i have been using the program on my old nokia 6670. Just check the phone compatibility list on the website. If not just download the program and try if it works its free anyway.

 

As for gps receiver, you can buy it on ebay

 

As for accuracy, as mentioned above the accuracy was double checked with a race laptimer hook on to the bike and the differences were negligible, less than one mili second each lap

1) what is the GPS model if i m downloading this software in my hp?u mention i can get it on ebay, dun wanna get e wrong GPS.

2) which 1 shld i leave it on bike? the GPS reveiver or the hp?

3) this software r running by satelite?

How to work this thing is that you have to attach the gps receiver onto the bike, i usually tape it to the brake fluid reservoir, some people tape it to the triple clamp. Turn the receiver on a few minutes before the session for it to find and lock on to the satellites. Then just connect the race chrono program to the receiver via bluetooth. And start timing. Yes you have to bring your mobile phone with you on the track as it works on a bluetooth connection.

 

Tracks can be downloaded from the racechrono website forum. But if the track is not there you can always map out the track yourself.

u can map the track yourself, just create a new track and do one lap of the track.

The tracks on the website are all uploaded by people who have mapped their track

i've order the Qstarz Bluetooth GPS receiver from ebay..

Hopefully can arrived b4 thiss weekend so can test at Sepang..

this is the program DANAS you use to analyse your data when you download to your computer. You can see where you brake, set splits and analyse your optimum time. Enjoy

I have download the software into my Nokia 6110.

now trying to get the GPS receiver on ebay.

as what u mention above, which mean i have to bring the GPS receiver n my hp with my on track?
