Hi all,

I have always wondered why when we receive video clips on emails, even though they are very small files..5mb or so.....the clips are super clear and takes no time to download and play, whereas those clips we take that are much bigger in size are not as clear when we send out or try to put them up on youtube to share with our friends. Anyone can help or have any solutions?

In theory, the video should be intact if it were to be sent over the internet, Youtube, or e-mail.

Maybe you've overlooked something as simple as the video being taken using a 'cheap' videocam, even though it offers a bigger size (dimensions).

Hi bro..thanks for the response. No, I use a HD cam..the files are huge..sometimes more than 150-200k mb..when i use tempfile to upload and share with friends..you can see its very good quality video..but it takes long time to download..sometimes 15-20 mins..so people might not be too patient.

When i upload to youtube ..you can see the quality suffers.

However when i receive emails from people on some funny clips..sometimes its only 5mb but damn super clear and fast to download. Hope you know what I mean.

I haven't tried uploading a video to Youtube yet, but I believe they impose a "less than 10 minute or else its 1GB" limit to all videos. Maybe they have some sort of downsampling in place to compress any video that doesn't already adhere to these rules?

What's the duration of your video?

Depends..2 to 3 minutes.

This is my video on Youtube.

The one I uploaded to tempfiles is much clearer.

A quick check their website reveals that when videos of differing sizes (dimensions) get played onto Youtube's 480px x 360px sized video screen, videos either get squashed to fit that screen when they're too big, or stretched if they're too small.

For example, this person offered help at Youtube's Help Centre to another person experiencing the same problem as you:

Try encoding your videos at 480x360, 24 or 30fps and 1500kb/s using H. 264 multi-pass (a.k.a. HD standard)

Hope this helps :)

When you convert videos using some Video Converter software, at some point you are allowed to choose what kind of video format the final converted video will be.

I'm not sure what third-party Video Converter software you are using to solve this problem but I can tell you that if you see an option on that software that says either:

H.264, or

Hi-Definition (HD), or

Widescreen,

or MP4 Part 10

...choose either one.

If you can't find it but wanna convert anyways, just select anything that says MP4. This is the non-widescreen (HD) video format by the way.
