Current ride is healthy wit the issues of water pump..guess they upgrade it..mine an early 990 S 07..

PS- Fuel Tank Upgrades will require ya to upgrade yo front springs & rear springs...food for tots...ya wld be havin biceps like Bodyduilder every time ya put it on MAinsatnd tho

So the water pump issues still existed. Hope its gone on the 09 models as stated by Ong. I agree on the upgrades that need to be done if u wanna change tank. That may take a few years down the road. Thanks for the inputs

I had an 03 950 adventure, which I rode to Thailand a couple of times. I had the gel seat and my arse still got pretty sore, so the GS would win in the comfort department. Handling and performance I would say the Katoom wins hands down, both on road and off. Very capable off road, and way more capable than I expected on road. Had some timing chain noise start up before I sold it, but was checked by DW and nothing seemed to be wrong. Have seen the bike around from time to time so its still going!

As soon as I think I can get the time off work I will get the new 990 and do some more touring....will be a few years yet though.....:(

One day, before I am too old, I want to ride to europe, via africa, and this will be the bike I take.

Europe via Africa? Thumps up bro. Long way up Singapore version i guess. You get my vote. There is a guy from Sg riding an Africa Twin doing the same thing. If i'm not mistaken, hes now in antartica still doing what he does best. You can read it in the RR of ADVRiders.

How long before you sold off your bike?

Hey Mate,

Having the KTM 990 now 18 months - 2008 Model.

Only 18,000 km so far - so hard to report any experience on reliability.

Though see "proud reports..."done 10 k no problem" I think must wait to at least 50.000 km before making any comment on reliability.

Its always fun to ride, comfortable, more then enough torque...typically drive up to Malaysia...mostly on roads..very rarely off-road....once felt over in the sand and had to lift it up again (alone)....tough job !!!!!

Always need a lot of trust in the technology....do not want to be in the middle of nowhere and having to fix this bike - but maybe because I am an old fashioned guy used to R80GS and XT 500 which you could dismantle and reassemble in the desert.

Just fit in the 3rd battery after 18 months.....was ok when it refuses to start in the car park in Singapore - but last time battery went down in IPOH - no chance to jump start. Not sure if this is a typical problem.

I am a very slow driver - in Singapore usually not more then 240 km before the fuel lamp on. On relaxed Malaysia roads can get around 280 km before "light on"

Can recommend the bike - but not sure if I would use it for a world trip.

Cheers

Uli
