How do the gantry detect your bike?

Do they scan your IU unit or snap a picture of your bike?

Which one takes priority?

They will SUCK the card value first... Then they cannot SUCK they will take photo once after you enter the gantry. Then they will trace from the photo which vehicle in the photo didnt kana SUCK $.

SO.. if you wanna siam then you must ride 500km/h or more to not get in the photo then they dunno lor. :D

This has been debated before but based on educated guessing (long theoretical explanation, won't touch on that one), this is what I presume happens:

[1] There's a high chance that there's an RFID tag inside the IU, or something that's equivalent to a tiny radio transmitting device.

This is to tell the constantly-scanning electronic gantry that your bike/car has an IU.

[2] When certain conditions are met (like no cashcard/not enough value), my next guess would be that one's IU "serial number" or equivalent is picked up by the gantry and sent to the data centres at LTA where it matches that to your bike plate number and owner details.

[3] The camera kicks in next. This is probably implemented to make the ERP-charging system foolproof and if the gantry did not detect an IU on the vehicle, or that the IU is spoilt, thus it can't be detected by the gantry.

Again, this is purely educated guessing when I made a trip to the IU inspection centres and watched them use their troubleshooting gadgetry to figure out what the problem with my IU was.

Comments and/or corrections appreciated

Without IU, and u passed thru the gantry, the cameras will snap a pic of ur bike and LTA will send u the $70 bucks fine straight.

No IU = $70 fine

maybe u can try pushing up ur bike off the road to siam ERP? i have not try this before and will nv try..

Erm no need to even try.... They can charge you of evading ERP aka cheating the system. If small case fine, if big case they can send you to court. Court thing i dunno la but guessing that they can do that. So please pay the few cents. But i really find it Stupid to PAY for the IU just to PAY the garment $. Should give us all free ma...

Same question asked so many times already with many different, weird, stupid answers but here it goes again. What happens if you have bike(s) on top of a lorry and passes through a gantry at ERP active times?

Been there..done that!!

The system will only capture the lorry's plate no..

1 time I got caught by the ERP timing..my bike got no IU. So I stopped before the gantry. If go thru, fine $70..so what I did is to call a tow truck and tow my bike to my house!!! Rather pay $30 than $70..

Simplest way is to plan your route lor..

If have to get into city, the only way to siam is to go in on sunday or public holidays :D

or go in after 8pm. :D

or best park ur bike to the nearest carpark before the gantry

I managed to see one too for the 1st time on a new Harley Davidson parked at my work place carpark. It looks quite good though.
