actually i read one news article before and it said that actually singapore petrol too good already, usually other country's best petrol is actually power 95, our power 98 n v-power is way too good so actually there is no harm using 95 on ur vehicle.

actually i dun really mean power but smooth!

Caltex better; feels smoother. Petronas is also not bad.

If memory serves me right, i read somewhere that higher octane fuels minimise engine knocking caused by "too-early" combustion (ignite).

Usually, the spark plug should fire to ignite the squashed fuel+air mixture in the compression stage of the engine combustion process, not earlier than that.

A little Chemistry lesson on Hydrocarbons:

The name "octane" comes from the following fact: When you take crude oil and "seperate" it in a refinery, you end up getting hydrocarbon chains of different lengths. These different chain lengths can then be separated from each other and blended to form different fuels.

For example, you may have heard of methane, propane and butane. All of them are hydrocarbons. Here's more:

- Methane has just a single carbon atom

- Propane has three carbon atoms chained together.

- Butane has four carbon atoms chained together

- Pentane has five

- Hexane has six

- Heptane has seven...

- and octane has eight carbons chained together.

Whew...that's a lot of Chemistry stuff to remember.... :p

Looking at that list above, Heptane comes right before octane.

The list is arranged by how "flammable" the hydrocarbon is.

It turns out that Heptane handles compression very poorly. Compress it just a little and it ignites spontaneously. Octane handles compression very well -- you can compress it a lot and nothing happens.

Eighty-seven-octane (RON87) gasoline is gasoline that contains 87-percent octane and 13-percent heptane (or some other combination of fuels that has the same performance of the 87/13 combination of octane/heptane). It spontaneously ignites at a given compression level, and can only be used in engines that do not exceed that compression ratio.

Always follow your recommended minimum allowable RON rating for your RVF.

Haynes Service and Repair Manual for VFR/RVF recommends any petrol that is Unleaded, and is RON91 or above.

To play safe, I usually pump 98, especially when I do rough riding. Sometimes I do 95 occasionally.

Titbit: I heard Class 2 bikes can only have RON95 petrol as the minimum...

He's okay for SG because it's not in SG customs officers' jurisdiction to examine M'sia stamps on one's passport.

The one he should be worried about is the M'sia one...have entry chop but no exit. So M'sia regards him as he still being in their country.
