Dear RVF riders

After listening to opinions from some of our forum members, I have decided upon small plans catered to us RVF riders to promote that certain RVF "brotherhood" in us (no matter how small the activity is).

Let me explain further what I mean.

First and foremost, some of you already know that there are fraternities (i.e. biker groups) in SBF. The big Super-4 group, the independent VFR group...heck, we have the very very (and I emphasize, the very) popular Yamaha R6 group.

And that's just the front-view of their well known recognition in SBF. Within their fraternities, these groups of people not only head out for simple things such as Kopi sessions, "carbon-clearing" sessions, and the various outing sessions -- they also do mass orders of memorabilia. You know, like club Polo-T's, MO's for products, as well as a website made just for the club.

I gave all of the above things some thought...and I have deduced:

[1] It's not very easy to organise a mass outing where 99% of the riders will attend

[2] Polo-T: While me (and maybe somebody) can offer to design them, there are some things to think about:

(a) This already has been done a year back

(b) During that time, the members had difficulty collecting payment

© Initial planning, then sourcing for a printing company to ink-on those tees was difficult, according to the lao-jiaos

[3] A lot of riders don't surf SBF, and are unaware of our growing population in the RVF thread.

For a grassroot organization to thrive and grow, it must be run by and populated by people who have PASSION for something.

According to somebody that posted on the Tommorrow.sg blog regarding the lack of grassroots organisation in Singapore, this is what he said:

For a grassroot organization to thrive and grow, it must be run by and populated by people who have PASSION for something.

These people fall into several categories:

Car enthusiasts -- Honda Club, Toyota Club, Vios Club, Hyundai Getz Club, SG Evo Club, Subaru Club and all the sub-clubs around them.

Technology geeks -- Singapore Palm Users Group (SPUG), PPCGSG (PocketPC Group, Singapore), Singapore Newton Users Group (now-defunct), etc

Sadly, in all seriousness, the one thing many old-timers believe is that today's generation of Singaporean either lack passion or initative to start, or worse, care enough to share knowledge and experience in grassroot organizations.

I just had a friend come back from a visit to Singapore, and she had an interesting comment:

"Singapore is such a fun, vibrant place, but the people are so alike. A utopian environment populated by the Borg"

I didn't know whether to smile or cry when I heard that.

I know that for be a big and an accomplished grassroots (RVF) club, this requires more than just open-mouth-talk only. And I fully understand that.

But, seeing that there are well established biker groups in , why don't we head in the same direction as well? For that, I would like to contribute a few things to our group:

1. Sticker Mass-order

Our very own SBF has one, so why not us too?

If a Polo-T mass order is a little-bit difficult to manage, why not settle for something that's smaller in size and of a lesser burden to our wallets?

That's how I conceived the thought of doing a sticker for everybody.

My aim for the sticker is to make it simple and not too flashy, yet stand out from the crowd with some text (eg) RVF Rider's Club, plus a little www web address. Read on -->

2. RVF Rider's Club Website

http://img264.imageshack.us/img264/4002/rvfwebbn2.th.jpg

This is a website to cater to us all. And I don't simply plan to just make a pretty website to attract people only.

My goal for this site is to provide a portal for us RVF riders to interact and to learn more about our bikes. Pictures, outing announcements, maintenance tips and DIY, where to find cheap parts and how much, bikeshops that we love and how to get there. Basically a website that will greatly benefit newbies and lao jiaos as it will answer most questions relating to RVF as well.

Oh, and don't worry, I will not substitute this thread on SBF for this new RVF Riders Club website. This thread will stay alive.

Hope all of you guys can provide some support here as much as I am inspired to begin these 2 contributions

Paiseh...my above post not finished yet. You saw only a portion of it.

As for the R6 group, I was just trying to illustrate that they're one successful established group. :)

But sorry to hear that their Polo T MO wasn't as smooth as they had thought. Hope it's alright now...

yup very good idea for the sticker. btw even if its for polo tee i dun think there will be a problem right? we can just set some rules for the Ts.

1st we do a count of how many wan the polo t.

2nd we collect money via bank transfer. those who never transfer, even if u said u wan a shirt but no money no stuff.. its that simple..

i rather have a fast n smooth deal then waiting for ppl to confirm and chase them for money.. even if we order 10 polo ts i also will go will it even if more expensive rather then complicate matters for waiting ppl.

The tee will come later. But if this plan really does materialise one day, it'll be the same design (be fair to everyone) and nickname on sleeve. But maybe some more small additions to liven it up.

oh and :btw:, I'm not the one who decides upon the design of the sticker and/or the tee...you all can (and have to) help me by submitting your designs too!

P.S.: Your R1SP OMV...top up a few thousand can buy a Ducati liao.

Oh yah hor. Should I append the word "former" to his sticker. So it'll become "former RVF rider"
