btw...is there NO WAY that rvf can install pc3? even if got money oso cannot ah?

do you know what pc3 is for and how it works? if u do, then u will know why rvf cannot install already. :giddy:

Ok, for the sake of newbies here, PC3 is actually loose English "biker" slang for "Power Commander III".

To understand how this enhancement add-on works, you need to know how a Class 2 bike (or some rare newer Class 2A/2B) bike works.

Class 2 bikes have what's called:

- ECU, or Engine Control Unit. Essentially the brain of the bike.

- EFi, or Electronic Fuel Injection for short. The ECU controls the EFi.

In the heart of every new bike is the ECU. It's a computer that controls the bike's engine...from the amount of petrol and air that should go into the engine, how and when the spark plug should fire, and many other smart features that make the bike's engine run...

EFi, as what's simply explained per the above explanation, simply put -- is a smart petrol delivery system, commanded and controlled by the ECU.

It sprays the petrol directly into the engine (pistons). It even determines and electronically controls the amount of petrol based on how much throttle you twist.

Yep, it's that smart.

Old bikes like our RVF don't have this kinda luxury, or an ECU either!! Instead, ours is mechanical. Our RVF contains lousy 4 carburetors -- a container that holds your petrol/air mixture before it gets sucked** into your engine. How much petrol and air gets sprayed into our carburetor (and then into our engine) is determined by how much the throttle cable "moves". How we "move" this throttle cable is we...err...twist the throttle. That's how we go faster.

So answer is, our bike doesn't have an ECU...how are we going to install a PC3 on it?

Anyways, back to ECU. So we got a brainy computer managing the petrol intake to a Class 2 bike eh? So who programs this computer and makes it work? Yep, the factory that produced this bike. They're the ones that decide that, oh say for example, if the throttle isn't twisted, the ECU should spray little petrol and air in and make the spark plug fire less - that's called idling. If the throttle is twisted all the way 100%, spray a maximum burst of petrol and air into the engine and have the spark plug fire faster (in association with the RPM of the engine).

This is called "Mapping" and a "mapping" is a set of computer instructions inside the ECU that determine what kind of petrol/air/plug firing the bike's engine need, based on different kinds of throttle (twist) positions.

http://img527.imageshack.us/img527/1489/40rollonzj6.jpg

However, sometimes, Class 2 bikers usually think that their stock ECU is "not enough" for their speed and power cravings.

Power Commander is a kind of aftermarket add-on that plugs itself alongside the ECU, "tweaking" how the ECU works. It kinda "cheats" the ECU by changing the way the petrol/air intake works, and how the spark plug fires -- usually it's a set of "cheat" instructions making the petrol/air intake increased in some places, and probably making the spark plug fire earlier*

Look at the picture above. This picture shows the "mapping" of a bike running on a stock ECU (red line), versus a bike with a Power Commander installed alongside the ECU (blue line). Yep, it's an improvement of response with that blue one...

NOTE: As always, Class 2 bikes should follow the same mantra that the Biking Confucious has put out, regards of what kinda bike you ride, big or small:

Do your bike a good favour...get it serviced. Also, get a matching Full System and other performance-enhancing equipment to go with it.

This way, your Power Commander won't be just as useless as a white elephant.

As an analogy, it's like how computer gamers "overclock" their computers. For bikes, the way to do it is to install stuff such as a Power Commander.

==========

* Studying spark plug firing intervals -- or how "soon" the spark plug fires, is an advanced bike-mechanics and performance tuning topic that I will not discuss here cuz it's out of the scope of this explanation.

** To make things simple, I decided NOT to talk about air pressure here. In actuality, this Physics topic is how the petrol/air mixture gets delivered into the engine

So question here: Will an aftermarket CDI affect the way the engines turn. Cuz I've been hearing if a CDI provides some kinda boost, will I have to get a stronger piston, conrods, and etc to compensate?

Just asking.
