Hi guys,

Been reading lots of postings regarding battery life-span. Wish to share my experiences...

My Wee is installed with a headlight on/off switch since it's abt a wk old. My SOP for headlight is :

1) ALWAYS in OFF position whenever cranking start the bike.

2) ALWAYS in OFF position whenever in bike is stationery with engine idiling. IE. Traffic light in red.

In short, I will switch on the headlight only when bike is moving. SGP's streetlights are more than enough for safe riding. In fact, I thought the lights are more for BLIND drivers to see me. (And for the boys-in-white)

Current battery is still the same original one which came with the bike. Bike's abt 4 yr old plus now.

For my past bikes, that's the same SOP I practiced too.

If yr battery doesn't SEEMS to be charging well, you might want to try tuning UP your engine idiling RPM. Add another 0.3 rpm will help.

HAPPY RIDING!!

That's a good practice. Hopefully can remember to on it back after i off it.

i wants the headlight switch...err where u all did urs?

Waited forever for the switch at KnT. In the end, did mine at looi's. 35 bucks. I tot u got urs fix already...

i got ventura headlight protector. U want? Sell u cheap².

Great Speedjpop!!! However I'm kind of lazy to think of switching off-on the light when the traffic is Red.

yo bro. fix ur switch oredi??

A man only needs so much money, the rest is just showing off

I just follow other vehicles' SOP. Only on the lights from 7-7. And also off when cranking up.

But another good mod is to make a radiator fan switch so u can manually on when stuck in traffic. U can run the fan longer than the normally auto cut-on..

My SOP is to activate it when temp bar hits 3 and bring it down to 2. Personally I feel cool(working temp) engine is good engine.

from what i know..

"Popping" Problems

When? (mostly happens on Vee)

- Happens when in lower gear

- Bike running for some time (temp bar 3 bars and above)

- 3000 RPM below

Why?

- Throttle body boots ring are loose

- Throttle body way out of sync

- Air and fuel mixture (pop sounds at the exhaust)

Solution

- Tighten the rings to the throttle body

- Do throttle body synchronisation

- Do tuning (best with PC)

Battery Flat Problem

When?(both Wee n Vee)

- Cannot start after riding in low gear for some time (below 3000rpm). Usually if bike occasionally stop for traffic lights during the journey.

Why?

- Battery not charging properly

- One of the charging system faulty (Battery, Rectifier, Coil)

Solution

- Install an on/off switch for the headlight

- Change the faulty battery, rectifier or coil (check manual for instruction to check condition of battery, rectifier and coil)

Reason being is that our headlight consume too much power when switched on and this might drained the battery. Battery below 13V when idling will not charge properly and will continue to drain more with the headlight turned on. You will notice that newer bikes have their pilot light turn on first when u switch on and the headlights will only on after the engine is running. This could prolonged the battery life. All production bikes after a certain year (not sure exactly which year, around 2002-2004) do not have a on/off switch.

By right the battery should be charging when the bike is idling, but our stroms' will not charge until it is moving or above 3500-4000RPM. Those who often ride 'safely' and occasionally stop at traffic lights during their journey might have encounter this problem. Like what speedjpop is doing is good for the battery.

Sorry for the lengthy write up but all the owners here should know about this 'technical glitch' on our machines before making hasty decision to sell the bike away. When the bike is smooth and running, the feeling is priceless :thumb:.

If we could arrange a day to meet up during the day, we might learn to tighten the throttle boots ourselves. With the right tools it will be a piece of cake.

Disclaimer: Do not quote me 100% as i may be wrong as this is the experience i've had with my Vee for the past few years.

Rubber boot is the black hose connected to the throttle body. There are 2, on the front and back. Find ways to tightened them up. That should stop the popping.

hey bro....thnks for the info... appreciate it lots.... its a useful info bro... yeah i agree wif u... this bike when riding, the feeling is priceless.... 100% agreed.....

i guess the POP sound i heard last week is due to bike kinda hot due to congested traffic... so bro al simmon, just a point of view... so its common to here the POP sound if the bike kinda hot at 3rd bar temp?? as my bike new, do i nid to do all the above mention bro??thnks...

usually if it happens once a while it's ok...but if it keep on popping...

the ring on the throttle boots might be loose....check it out first...

if you read the history of our engine....there is a lot of issues on it...

these are the things that might happen when u ride the Vee especially...

Whats Up DaWgZ!!

Yo Strommers!

I just got back from Ao Nang, Krabi. First time I took my Strom on a long distance ride. Enjoyed the ride. Fantastic! Never regret buying a Strom. GPS made me and my buddy to travel on unpaved roads. That was fantastic. :thumb:

But the bike is shaky and wriggling when travelling above 160km/h. I suspect due to my full loaded side boxes. Other than that, I am definitely going to take my bike to much more longer distance.

I do have a question. On my ride back to SG, I was facing witht the red light lit on with "FI" blinkering alternating with the clock. I suspect it was my Fuel Injection system as mentioned in the manual. My thoughts, "Thats it. Going to call the Tow Truck from SG to pick me up at Seremban". I prayed hard that if I switched off my bike, please please make that "FI" gone once I switched back my bike on. At the same, I was hoping that my bike could be switched back on.

The moment of truth, my bike able to switch back on and running. The "FI" indicator is gone. So, the question here is, Should I send my bike for checking or get it checked and service the fuel injection system? :)

Yeah, i understand. But when I think of spending $$$ and spending time to settle the battery problem....it motivates me to FINGER that light-switch!
