I'm a frequent visitor to Singapore and also a Wee Strom rider in the States (SFO).

I was wondering if there was a rental outfit that rents motorcycles? Maybe a V-Strom?

Any tips would be appreciated!

hi abraxis,

welcome to singapore.

bike rental is a myth in singapore.

we don't even have the chance to test ride a bike before purchase. (except for bmw sold under pml - performance motor limited).

probably, it's the way the insurance has been structured. the policy put the rider to the bike.

most insurance does not cover rider other than the name indicated in the policy. sub-rider is allowed. some insurer allows up to 3 riders per bike. but the name of all riders must be clearly specified and indicated in the policy for that particular bike. if not, coverage is void.

which means to say, if you ride your buddy's bike and get involved in an accident, and you are not the designated sub-rider of the bike, you are not covered.

so, under such insurance structure, very hard to run bike rental business.

unlike for car, anyone or stranger can drive your car in singapore if you permit him to do so, and they are covered.

so if you are keen to ride occasionally when in singapore, tie up with one wee's rider and be the sub-rider, pay the top up insurance (if there is any) and ride on.

let me know, we can discuss the rental. :cheer:

Years ago there were some. But the renters trashed the bikes, and also the number of accidents were too high. Then they stopped it by method of insurance premiums.

There is one left which mainly leases to cooperates http://www.banhockhin.com.sg . You can always try.

There is no rental in Malaysia. Thailand has, but mainly smaller bikes, partially miserable conditions.

Hi bro, thanks. do you roughly have the costing? can PM me?

thats not totally true.m-teknik doesnt keep THAT much stock.

i was told to wait 2 months for the sw-motech crashbars,

of which biketech has ready stock.

also, guanhoe does not have any handguards for DL650.they only have for DL1k.

another avenue u could try is adventureonwheels in jurong.do your pricing research first though..

i'd also advise you to read up on accessories here:

http://11109.rapidforum.com/

might save you some trouble...

Ahh, that's because you're getting SW Motech stuff there, in which they will get it ordered thru BikeTech21. That's why I'm saying best to get Hepco & Becker stuff from Mteknik which they have stocks available readily. Not sure if Guan Hoe still don't keep stock for the OEM handguards, can give them a call to check, in any case it doesn't comes in comlete set too (as in the mounting screws, nuts and bolts). Any shops that tells me to pay a deposit and gotta wait for order, I will get the stuff ordered by myself instead, can have it delivered to my place without worrying if the stock is in....

Hi bro, thanks. do you roughly have the costing? can PM me?

I can only give you the estimated cost as price of some stuff might have gone up the last I heard and some cost a little lesser if you order from the US due to the lower USD now...

Hepco & Becker engine guards - $250+ from Mteknik

SW Motech Bash guard - $250+ from BikeTech21

Pannier racks - not sure cos didn't have it

side boxes - as above

Handguards - OEM suzuki $100+ from ebay

Mainstand - $250+ from Mteknik

As there's quite a few variety of stuff for Vstrom, go read up at the vstrom forum byteblock has given to see which are the ones the you want to have a better picture.
