At least 2 guys including myself , with Garmin GPS going to Taman U A&W at 10am this coming saturday. A third guy (IT Engr) using PocketPC with Garmin Que & Mapking - not sure coming yet. I waiting to get a cracked version of the latest mapking from this guy.

Do join the trips to meet fellow GPS users , exchange tips & resources if you can.

cheeko : sure can join, we meeting at GP esso at 10am - with the Lonely rider club people. You can check their thread, but subjected to cancellation if it rains. Friday nite 9pm, we'll go to this website to reconfirm the weather report for saturday morning.

eldottore46: maybe next time la. I have in mind a few trips in near future after rainy season :-

Mt Ophir waterfall, malacca hotspring & Port dickson, Air papan. Mostly on saturdays one trip per month only.

Pauche: After Taman U A&W, we going dvd shopping nearby. Then part 2 depend on the rest. Got a few choices. Decision depending on voting that day. One of it is Pulai reservoir which is near Pulai waterfall. if we decides to go there, then probably we'll join you for dinner.

I never took my bike outside of Singapore yet - this trip seems a reasonably simple start.

How many hours to Port Dickson you reckon?

Two roads diverged in a wood, and I,

I took the one less traveled by,

And that has made all the difference

Need help on how to configure my GPS

1. When you install the Garmin Que it should ask to to install in Device (main mem) or in storage card such as SD Card or CF card. If u install in Device, it should be in \Garmin or else it should be either in \SD Card\Garmin or \CF Card\Garmin.(Note the root directory)

2. Go to http://www.malsingmaps.com/forum/modules.p...p=getit&lid=134 and download the gmapsupp.img.

3. Extract the file and put in the root directory of Garmin such as \Garmin, or \SD Card\Garmin or \CF Card\Garmin.

4. After that lauch your Garmin Que and go to Menu>Map Setup>Detailed Maps you should be able to see something like the screen below:-

That means u've got it right.

5. Switch on your GPS and make sure you've got a fix where on the top of the screen it should show "3D GPS Location" NOT "Acquiring Satellites" or "Searching COM x"

6. Click on the "Position Arrow" (refer below picture) to make sure you have center/zoom your current location in the map.

7. Adjust the Zoom level at your lower left hand side to, for an example 80m, 120m.

I tink i got step 1 - 5 rite, but 6 onwards i guess i have to retry but i see satellites for GPSproxy strange.

GPS Proxy can see about 6 satellites but how come Que is forever acquiring Satellites. Help

port dickson should be less than an hour ride up from from Malacca. Reaching malacca (230km plus) should be less than 2 hrs.

Very little traffic between port dickson & malacca. Along the way and many hotel resorts & condo along the beach also.

But of course the journey will be slower becoz we'll be searching for hot springs & famous malaccan food.

Its a day trip only . I prefer to get off trunk roads before nightfall and hit NSHighway before 7pm. Coz I worry about potholes in trunk roads at night.

Hiz!

Anyone know where can buy Garmin bike mount?

Thanks!

Mika,

You can get Garmin gear here: (off Beach Rd)

AllBright Technology Pte Ltd

200 Jalan Sultan #03-29 Textile Centre

Singapore 199018

Tel/Fax: 65-62978126

Open : Mon to Sat (1000 to 1800 hrs)

Close : Sun & Public Holiday

I'm not so keen on the RAM mount - seems a bit big and cumbersome to carry and hard to find place to mount it.

I use the handlebar mount but I dunno if there would be room for it on your bike - I ride a Honda Hornet. I haven't seen the mirror mount anywhere yet ....

i mount it here. Coz dun need to shift my head down to view, just quick glance my eye ball to see the auto-prompt messages. No need to slow down to see GPS.

I've got the ram-mount on my wave too which is hooked on to the side mirror screw will take some pic to show

I've tried it on my blade with the gps & videocam and its solid doesnt vibrate much

The ball mount has rubber coating to give more grip & absorb vibration

Its worth it dude trust me if wanna get betta mass order so save on shipping charges :cheeky:

The good thing about my handlebar mount is that I leave it on permanently and it dun look out of place cus it's kinda hidden.

I would like to see a pic of that mount you use for the mirror cus I'm not sure what it looks like or where to get it from ....

I dun mean to scare you here

But the mounting you used there is the same like one of my friends

He used mounted it on hi bike and had his GPS unit's casing crack like nobody's business:giddy:

Best is to avoid bumpy roads as it doesnt have anything to absorb the vibration:goodluck:
