Hi guys,

I just bought a PDA phone (Asus P535) which come with GPS, any idea where could I get a holder to mount on my scooter?

thanks :p

The problem is not you can afford it or not, is how are you going to make yourself able to afford it.

Posted

Pda phone usually is not waterproof therefore not advisable to mount on bike, best use a bluetooth headset together with pdaphone(which you can put safely away in your jacket pocket).

Use the bluetooth to listen to the direction instruction instead.

Yah, I know it is not waterproof, so basically I will only mount it on sunny day....

There use to be 2 guys in yahoo selling thick transparent waterproof pack

that also floats in water. PDA size. 1 is $20 the other $50 i think.

U can then buy a $3.70 super heavy duty velcro from selfix or home fix

hardware store. 3m brand, transparent and can hold heavy water bottle.

Ive also use tank bag with a transparent map cover.

All these works for my PDA, GPS setup

Honda ..................and nothing else

:cheeky: someone just taught me how to download Road names POI & transfer into my garmin legend CX using the M3 software from Malsingmaps.com. Now my garmin can do search for Roadnames & HDB blocks , just like Mapking.

OK i using etrex legend cx, my battery consumption using GP alkaline batteries is pretty good, a

Went to check and seems like the screen is small; Do you have any difficulties reading this while riding?

Could you share or pm me where you have bought this and how much? :)

I have short listed 2 models. Can anyone please advise on your experience or knowledge on them. Thanks.

1) Garmin eTrex Vista Cx

Personal thoughts: This is well within my budget but not sure if it can be easily mounted to Silverwing and easily viewable on the screen

https://buy.garmin.com/shop/shop.do?pID=326&locale=en_US

2) Garmin 76CSx

Personal thoughts: This will stretch my budget from reviews, it seems to have much better satalite reception, have more features like compass, barometer, floats on water....:dot:

https://buy.garmin.com/shop/shop.do?pID=351&locale=en_US

My wallet tells me option (1) and my heart tells me option (2)..... you views?

How much is the 76CSx ? Not familiar with it. I have used the 60CSx, specs is very close to the 76CSx, price was $670 few months back.

The Vista is ok for bike, but the buttons are abit small, especially when gloves are worn.

Compass is useful, but not the barometer.

76CSX is for boating ....

for land use 60CSX will do....

I also using Vista CX it is good for road use...only if u go jungle tracking than u will face some problem but other than that .... it is ok..

it screen is big enough for me...

but i plan to sell again my Vista CX for new Vista HCX by end of the year...

HCX have better reception like 76CSX but the batt life is only half the CX

but i do plan to go for jungle tracking...

so i think i maybe change my CX for HCX by end of the year..

This is on top of my mind too....

If I choose the 76CSx, though this is suitable for boat, this is also suitable outdoor activities like trekking, biking etc...

I have previously own another GPS but finds the receiving is kind of bad. This is why I was wondering if the Vista CX will face similar problem too.... If there are any remote chance that this may be the case, I will simply get the 76CSx now (at of year for Vista CSx is too long a wait) :dot:

no difficulty coz i simply follow the autoprompt message in big letters which tells me to turn right or left. No need to study the map on the move.

The place i bought is Perfect Watch pte ltd at sim lim square but its not the cheapest ; u got to back track this thread for the cheapest deal.

basically 60CSx & 76CSx share almost the same function & sensitivity, except 76 series float on water (since it's a marine model). the Vista Cx is using older chipset so it's not as sensitive as the 60CSx/76CSx/Vista HCx. wat's ur another gps's model?

The 76CSx (base on spec, screen a bit bigger then than Vista too) cost around $700 :)

Think this would be a good buy then !

I see that most people here use the 60csx or the 76csx.

What about the zumo? Does anyone have that?

I have a nuvi for my car, and was thinking of getting a zumo for my bike, since the interface looks similar.
