I have been using a GPS device to guide my travelling around Malaysia and also other parts of the world. With this thing, you will never get lost, you also dun need a tour guide more or less.

A GPS (Global Positional Satellite) device can be mounted on the bike, mine at the mirrors.

If any one wish to know something about it, can post question here.

I did some checking for you. Your garmin quest can only load one map file at a time. One way is to, from Mapsource, and select the appropriate map tiles from MSM, and MFM and transfer into the device. However, I also read that there are some routing problems in some areas.

http://www.malfreemaps.com/viewtopic.php?f=4&t=274

I think the easiest way is to get unlock code for the MSM v2.30.

:)

you are right. Quest can load so called "multiple" maps which combine under a gmapsupp.img. Using mapsource with maps from Garmin, you can select different country and area that you need and install into Quest, but due to its small internal memory, can really have much maps to install at 1 go :nono:.

anyway MFM does not need any unlock code and it updating almost every weekly. But MSM did not have an update for the pass 3 months

A second of precaution is an hour of safety. It never hurts to ask.

The pic abit small.

It seems like you do not have enough memory in your Zumo to upload the selected map tiles.

Why don't free up some space by deleting the pre-loaded map (usually the biggest single IMG file) after backing it up in your PC.

Anyway I have never tried uploading maps directly from Mapsource into Zumo, is that possible ?:?

If the default show Malaysia, just go and change the country to Singapore and you will show the town of Singapore. First town will be AMK

Don't understand what does it mean by " default show Malaysia " ?

But if I change the Micro SD card to the one that I have been using earlier, it will have no problem ???

Now, I understand why you cannot use the address function for Singapore. The reason is that the lastest version of malsingmaps is the search function of address for Singapore is disabled due to software problem.

Hope that they solve it for the next version.

Changing your SD card will not solve this problem as it is due to the version of map that your friend give to you.

To solve this problem use the POI instead.

IC, I will call my friend to check it out if he have the same problem or not too, Thanks buddy.

I have no problem using the address search function with MSM v2.30 or v2.29 on my nuvi.

It will be useful if you can provide the map info such as the type of map and its version.

I am talking about ver2.30 uploaded on a 60cs. It cannot do an address search but can do a POIs search.

When this version was installed on PDA with gmxt, it too like your nuvi, got no problem searching for addresses.

Guess this got to do with the firmware of 60cs.

Sorry for the small pic, the error message actually quote:

"The map set is approximately 20.8MB, but only 404.6MB is available in the destination. Please select fewer maps and try again."

The strange thing is:

1. Destination had way bigger space than the map require, and its still prompting of not enough space.....

2. The map is a official Garmin Singapore/Malaysia City Nagivator loaded into a official Garmin MapSource software

3. MSM and MFM had no problem with MapSource whereas Garmin City Nagivator had error....

Anyway, let me check with Garmin tech support, thanks guys!

p/s: Thanks Rajeh bro for your recommendation of Zumo 500 at Perfect Watch, device works great and the shop assistant was helpful as well!

Hi guys...Pls allow me to ask a silly question. I'm using the Etrex Vista HCx currently and I have MFM and Thailand maps loaded in my GPSr. I would also like to load the free unlocked MSM into my GPSr but the file name "gmapsupp.img" is the same as the one I have in my device storage card inside the Garmin folder if you know what I mean. Therefore if I were to just copy and paste it into my device folder, it will overwrite my current mapsets isn't it? The problem is free and unlocked MSM cannot be opened with Mapsource leh. Just 1 "gmapsupp.img" after I run the "GM-MYSin.exe" file. Can someone advise me on how to have both MSM & MFM in my GPSr please...Thanks in advance!

Yes, the exsiting "gmapsupp.img" file will be replaced by the new "gmapsupp.img" file.

The Legend, Vista, 60CSx, 76CSx can only recognised one file name ie. "gmapsupp.img".

The problem is free and unlocked MSM cannot be opened with Mapsource leh. Just 1 "gmapsupp.img" after I run the "GM-MYSin.exe" file. Can someone advise me on how to have both MSM & MFM in my GPSr please...Thanks in advance!

One way is to store each "gmapsupp.img" in a separate SD card. Alternatively, you can combine many "gmapsupp.img" files into a huge "gmapsupp.img" using freeware available in MSM, such as PATCHIMG, SENDMAP etc.

It is not advisable to combine MSM and MFM files as the map tiles do not line up, so some routes are disjointed.

In term of details such as polygons of HDBs, MFM is almost on par with MSM in certain areas however MSM is still superior in coverage. Eg, there is no Endau Rompin, and all trunk roads on the East Coast of Malaysia are not mapped in MFM.

If you do not have access to MSM v2.30, use the MSM v2.15. Get familiar to MSM forum, and do two contributions to get the unlock codes for the latest maps. Otherwise, pay USD20/- for Jerome Maps.

Thank you Demon...I really appreciate that you took time to answer my newbie question....Now I have a clearer picture....:cheer:

As I have two 4GB microSDHC card, I'll copy the free and unlocked MSM map into the other empty card....Cheers!
